Calling all motorcycle enthusiasts, I need your opinion. I'm currently the proud owner of a 2001 Suzuki SV650s. Although the bike is great through the canyons here in SoCal I've noticed that on the highways I'm struggling. Now that I have about a years worth of street riding ( + a lifetime of dirt riding) I've decided to get a 1000cc. I want to find a bike that has a mixture of both a good bike for the canyons on weekends and a good highway commuter. So far I'm considering the following bikes.
04/05 Kawasaki ninja zx-10r
05 K5 GSXR 1000
These are the only two bikes that I have found that give the most preformance for a small price. If you know of any others similar please tell me.

Bonus: if you personally know how comfortable either of these bikes or any other bikes are for long distances. ( I'm 6 feet tall )

BONUS 2x: trips names my SV

Pic related, my SV

Good try though

Hi /o/

I dont know much about cars, but I would like to get some advice.

I want to get a Jeep wrangler and get it customized (I am interested in prepping and survival and want to make it great for off road) BUT it will also be my primary car and will be used 90% of the time for driving in the city and meeting with clients.

Is it worth buying a new Jeep if I plan on putting money into it getting it customized? Or should I buy an older one for 1/4 of the price and then put money into it?

As I am interested in prepping I want to make it even more rugged (like pic related but not as extreme).

I would also like to keep the car for as long as possible without it loking like an old car (I would put money into it every once in a while) is it really possible to keep an older car reliable by spending money on it when needed? The engine etc? Could I update the exterior every 5 to 10 years to make it look new again?

Or is it just not worth it?

I apologize for my ignorance..

Thanks.

>I apologize for my ignorance
This I'm afraid

What you are after is the must impractical thing for the city. A modded, lifted rock crawling jeep is one of the worst things in the city. You are way too high, suspension makes it shit, mpg is in single digits, your $500 each off road tires dont last 10k and it isn't at all comfortable.

If you want to rock crawl. Have a city car, get an old pre modded tj or cj heartbreak/divorce special from craigslist or jeep forums once the seller has finally accepted reality and decided to sell below cost.

If you really want a city jeep get a stock Rubicon, keep it stock. It's already pretty fucking rugged, with lockers and electronic sway disconnect. Get a set of city tires and swap em out when you go off for the weekend. You might just get 15mpg.

Prepping wise: if you get the rock crawler keep full bugout kit in it, with enough gas to get you where you need x2
If you get the city jeep get a tire carrier with room for 2 jerry cans or external gas tank, fill them up with premium and rotate every couple of months. Keep a get home bag inside at all times. Install a ham radio and participate in ARES.

Once you have it you will mod it as needed, it won't look dated, it will look like a fucking jeep as long as you get on trails and know your Shit.

Has anyone driven a Challenger? I've been looking at the big three cruiser cars right now (Challenger, Mustang, Camaro) and really like the body style best on Challenger, but I've heard the handling isn't great and the visibility is poor -- rumor, though. Anyone have any experience they'd like to share?

I've only driving the V6, but I didn't find visibility to be a problem, and as to handling it is very responsive for such a large car.
>>
>>14647172
Driven the new R/T for a couple days.
Thing is a boat. Huge & Heavy

But really depends what you're looking for, it's comfy and fast.
Just don't expect to be throwing it around corners or something.
I'm a tall guy, visibility for me was fine.

Great highway car, shitty in the curves
V6 had a surprising amount of get up and go despite the weight

Okay guys, thought id make something interesting and check out your opinions.

What do you think is the first and second best sounding engine for each production car configuration?

>Hidden camera cars EVERYWHERE to get people for 1-5km/h over (this makes up 90% of the fines) with picture related

>Cops in the city of melbourne (not countryside) are highly militant and aggressive to anyone driving a performance orientated car. They see you as the enemy, no matter how polite you are, or if you're a full license driver or new driver.

>Any sort of car meet is attacked. Yes, attacked. The cops will raid meets which EXPLICITLY have rules about not being a stupid bogan cunt and where attendees are told they will get reported to cops if they troublemake. The cops then attend anyway and harass everyone, even those just enjoying cars.
http://www.caradvice.com.au/248607/qld-police-target-car-enthusiasts/

That's right, the cops ignored a MISSING CHILD who was eventually found by the car enthusiasts, while the police kept issuing fines for "not having 6 clicks of the handbrake".

>P platers are harrassed to shit and this fosters a hatred of the cops, instead of the money being spent to work with them and teach them to be better drivers.

>Victoria won't let P plate drivers drive cars their parents own that are a "bit too powerful" despite having TONS MORE SAFETY FEATURES but the new drivers are allowed to drive unroadworthy pieces of fucking shit that they will die in.

>Every single thing you hear from the state is pure propaganda about "muh safety muh children" but if you spend just 5 minutes looking up the statistics you will find out how doctored they are. Compare tasmanian or WA statistics to victoria statistics, where the laws differ and you will notice there is either no change or it's safer where laws are less restrictive.

And now i write this, having escaped the hellhole and broken free of the propaganda i once believed.

In victoria, you can rape and murder a baby and will be as hated as if you did a skid, due to the propaganda they push on the media.

I made this thread to highlight how they lie and fudge statistics and to also offer my condolences to those of you still not on your full license there, or even those still in victoria.

It's heaven here in USA, where there are actually tracks and those of us who are responsible car owners are not associated with bogan cunts.

Im at my wits end, I bought my moms automatic 1995 e34 bmw 525i off of her because she needed money for her business she started like 10 years ago,

anyway long story short, I have had to replace the injector on cyl #5, (misfire) and totally replace all the seals and o rings in the transmission.

Transmission is put back in, shifts fine, stuff is ok on that end. But Now its dying at stopsigns / redlights and also if I get it good and hot it will start dying when i change from Park to Reverse or Drive.

It's not an abrupt stop (like letting out a clutch improperly). But this is an automatic. Im thinking idle control valve or possibly o2 sensor? Has me completely baffled because there is no check engine light and the little computer on the dash doesnt complain about anything other than my wiper fluid level.

What the heck dudes? I know car guys generally don't like bimmer people but I really just need to get this sorted so I can have a good commute car, Not looking to rice or upgrade, just need to get around

Sorry for the really long post
TLDR; Bmw 1995 525i stalls out and dies when putting in R or D (automatic trans) after a while of driving. it DOES NOT do this cold. trans shifts fine.

sounds like the kind of problems an O2 sensor or crankshaft position sensor would cause.

when it stalls it "chokes out" the rpms drop and it loses energy and chokes. It's not like the all of the sudden 'jerk" you get from letting out the clutch improperly on a 5 spd. Makes me think it has something to do with air fuel mixture ratio, MAF, O2 sensor, or something?

>>14645377
I ran compression test but it was while it was cold. The compression across all cyl turned out nominal. But then again I have not tested it while hot, Could it be cylider rings getting ready to go out?

Also when we dropped the transmission we had to totally d/c the exhaust which also meant cutting the wires on the o2 sensor , could an improper splice cause this?

(Reason why we had to do that is because on my factory exhaust the o2 sensor was "welded" into the exhaust. had to cut wires and resolider.

Should that be the first thing I look at before taking out the ICV and cleaning it with carb cleaner?

I should also note that this set for around 4 years before re-servicing. Thanks for the responses so far guys

The Carroll Smith series is THE set of books all automotive enthusiasts should read.

A Twist of the Wrist by Keith Code, and the sequels are an excellent place to learn how to improve your own driving. Yeah they feature motorcycles but the principles of self observation and correction are solid and transfer.

How important is it to follow the service intervals on changing spark plugs? My manual says every 3 years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first. My car is going to turn 6 years old in October, so I was curious if I should bother.
