So I went on a run to Scotland in the last few days and took my parents' 06 Vauxhall Astra (H).

> No lights on the dash
> Drifted off to the side of the motorway and let the car "cool down"
> Turning the ignition did nothing - no starter motor, no nothing, just electrics
> Only the powersteering pump/fan I could hear but I didn't check exactly
> Engine starts again
> Fails to maintain an idle and quits
> Try again - works
> Get to my destination and do the pedal test
> Get a shit load of fault codes

There's no check engine or immobilizer light. My OBD port isn't bus powering my scanner so I can't check it. ECU isn't responding or displaying any issues when pedal testing. There's no dash lights indicating issues. Is my ECU fucked? What the fuck is going on here?

I'm currently gonna attempt to weld some rust holes on my car and would like any advice you guys might have. I'm doing it on a 92 miata and it's in the rear rocker panel and one behind the rear passenger wheel well. Bought some galvanized steel and bondo body filler. I was gonna plug weld but wanted any tips you might have. I'll post the areas I'm working on in the comments

1. you don't want galvanized steel
2. cut all of that area out
3. spray the inside and backside of your patch pieces with weld through primer
4. clean the paint off and clean your patch piece well
5. fit it up, will need a few clamps for that awkward spot
6. weld it in
7. grind it
8. paint with self etch primer

Okay, whatcha want to do is grab a standard power cable that plugs into the wall of your house. Chop off the end that DOESN'T plug into the wall, you want a reasonable amount of length out of it. Strip off about a foot of the sheathing, and you should have either three smaller cables or two smaller cables if it was intended for something double insulated. You should have a red cable wire and black wire. Strip off an about two inches of the sheathing of the wires themselves to expose the copper conductors. Now loop the red one around the positive terminal of the car battery, and the black one around the negative terminal. Then plug the other end of your home made cable into the wall and switch it on. Done, battery should charge.
