Do lug bolts have a point? Every time I see them I always try to think of a way they're better than studs/nuts but I never can

Think about it.

more aesthetically pleasing, easier to change out for longer ones if you get thicker wheels/spacers and supposedly harder to cross thread.
then again if you do cross thread them correct me if im wrong but you usually have to change the whole unit.
i recognize the pros but im not giving up my wheel studs and nuts yet

Hey friendos, I don't know shit about cars and need help

I have a 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus and basically I wanna take out the 5.7 and put in a 6.4. Does anyone know price wise what that'd run me in terms of parts and man hours and also where I'd even go to do that?

Also, does the Shaker hood or Scat Pack really make a difference or is it just like an aesthetics type of thing to be like "look at all this shit I've got on this car"

Infiniti unveils world's first production engine with variable compression ratios. Ratio change is achieved by tilting the multi-link using a harmonic drive linked to an actuator arm. The 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, VC-T engine can vary its cylinder compression ratios between 8:1 and 14:1

Found this '95 BMW 740i with 98k miles on craigslist for $1000 that allegedly needs a new engine. Interior/exterior is otherwise in decent condition.

My sister wrecked my Mazda 3 while I was at college last year and my folks said they'd get me a bit nicer car next summer. Was thinking of buying something like this ("luxury" car that needs a new engine) and LS swapping it to use as my daily driver (like pic related) instead of buying a dinky little Honda/Nissan/Toyota/Mazda/Subaru economy sedan.

As I've never done an LS swap before, what I want to know is:
>How much do LS swaps into German cars typically cost in total?
>Can I do so for around the same that it would otherwise cost for an economy car ($5-7k)?
>What typically needs to be done to make it happen?

>>
>>15646224
Other than a $500 engine out of a Chevy Tahoe (or something nicer if it fits the budget), what hardware would I typically need to get it up and running BMW/Audi/Mercedes?
>Get engine mounted in car
>Hook up transmission
>Get all the doodads working correctly with the new engine (gauges/indicators/components that run off the serpentine belt/throttle/intake system/exhaust/etc)
>>
Look up e39 LS swaps and you'll find all your info there on bimmerforums and other places. You'll need headers and mounts and maybe some other bits but all can be done and has been.

LS swaps are far from rare.

Hey /o/, somewhat new to cars here, but want to buy a 240SX and restore it. I've done little things to other cars like replacing the oil and changing car batteries, but was wondering where do I start to actually learn more like removing engine from the chassis and changing the shocks of a car. Should have enough money saved up within a year to actually buy one and the parts, so I have plenty of time to read up on it.

you get in there and start loosening bolts

also buy a repair manual

no amount of book reading prepares you for actually wrenching shit
>>
>>15646050
dont get ahead of yourself with a 240 just yet.
I say buy a cheap car that needs some work, but is easy to work on.
I had a jeep for my first, it broke a lot and i had to fix many things so i learned most of the stuff i know from that.
now i have a miata, which is way easier to work on and now im doing mods rather than fixing it.
soon ill be turboing it.
just take baby steps, do lots of research online and have a car that you dont have to worry about breaking. research and reading can only go so far, its experience that is important. dont overestimate your knowledge, take the time to learn and be patient.
>>
Watch youtube videos of people performing these tasks on the car you're fantasizing about buying

Comparison shop all your options in your area, including condition. Think about what you can afford and seriously consider just shutting up and buying a civic.

Which is the better car
AP1 or AP2?

Does it just come down to higher revs and more vtec fun vs better suspension and subframe rigidity and just being a better built sports car?

The busriders who read or watched reviews say the AP2 was a superior vehicle but the AP1 was a better, rawer and purer S2K.

I've seen some dude in a black one with "VTAK" for a license plate.

Hey guys, my a/c compressor got fucked up so now I have three options:

>go to the dealership and pay them $1000+ to fix it.

>replace it myself for the cost of the compressor/refrigerant

>just keep riding with no a/c and roll down the windows for maximum coolness

It's a safer option if I pay the dealership to fix it, but that's pretty much out of my price range at the moment.

I have very little mechanic experience(basic oil change/maintenance type of shit) but my cousin works on 18 wheelers for a living mostly so he can help out. The compressor itself would cost me ~$400 as well as the price for the refrigerant. That's about $800 i'd save there at the risk of fucking up.

What seems like the best option br/o/s??? Is the dealership tryna fuck me on the price? Any tips for changing an a/c compressor?? Any advice is appreciated.

My car's a nissan sentra se-r spec v 2010. She's my baby. But she's too damn hot in this fucking Houston heat.

Got my car aligned today after I realized I had a ton of toe-in from recently replacing control arms. The camber and castor on the front of my car are non-adjustable, but I know for an absolute fact that my front wheels have about equal noticeable negative camber just from eyeing them and testing with a straight edge next to the wheels. However, the printout for my alignment showed one wheel was at -1.7* (sounds right) and the other was at +0.1*. Did they just not take the time to accurately measure camber since it was non-adjustable to start with? The alignment seems perfect feel-wise and the wheel is straight.

>>
on struts you can usually buy crash bolts to fix camber. did you look?
>>
Depending on the software or the way it's set up to print out, it may mean your other side is within +0.1 of the other
If it's saying it's +0.1 then that's a different story, but 1.8 degrees of cross camber would drive like shit. The "didn't measure" isn't an argument if the other side was measured.
>>
>>15645687

I'm just gonna assume it's set up that way then. If anything, the 0.1 side has even more negative camber than the other.

Would you buy a 2008 BMW X3 with 44k miles on it for $9700?

Or is it a money pit in disguise? Are BMW's that prone to causing their owners to go bankrupt?

It is more so selective reasoning. People like to point out when a BMW has an issue because it is a more expensive car, but those same people disregard their own problems saying "it's just a Cavalier".

But for my money, I'd go with Mercedes over BMW for an SUV, I think their design is better.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but need a second opinion on auto insurance/legal advice regarding collisions. Story goes like this: lift foot off brake about half way, not used to how far out my new used cars front bumper is, tap this kids bumper. Get out, say sorry, examine car and take pictures. No dents, no scratches, nothing. We look at it together and agree nothing is out of order. Exchange names and phone numbers, I offer to pay any buffing for any scratch that might come up (no where to pull over so we kinda had to rush), go our separate ways. also in there a cop stops by that just to be driving past, looks at it and doesn't file anything, because nothing really happened. Today, two weeks later, the kid calls me saying he has a quote from his insurance of $800 for a new bumper and bumper cover, and needs my insurance info. I say no way dude, that's bs. Ask for photo of the car how it looks today and he refuses. Mom texts me, says she just filed the police report, and that she's getting a lawyer if I don't comply with them. I call her bluff. What grounds do they have? Obviously if they blame me for anything not in the picture they're idiots. Could internal damage really have happened at sub 3 mph? Anything similar happen to someone else?

>>
Internal damage at 3mph? No. $800 worth of damage? No. However body work is artificially inflated. It's an easy way for shops to collect on insurance claims.

Did you get the officers name?

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. He screwed himself even if damage did occur by not having a police report generated.
>>
for starters, you are an idiot. this is a mistake women make, not men. You're supposed to have good spatial awareness. Second, an insurance company wouldn't have a quote, it would be a mechanic shop. Ask to see the quote. Without a police report, there is zero reason your insurance company would accommodate their request. Look at the mechanics evaluation and go from there. If it seems legit, then take it on the chin and pay it.
