I'm a junior in high school looking to buy a 2nd generation Honda Prelude Si as a first car and have around 2000$ saved from an after-school job.
So what would be a good amount of money to save before buying one? Insurance rates for a 2 door Honda without airbags or ABS driven by a teenager would seem like certain death to my wallet. Also, how much does it usually cost to register a car and get plates for it?
Am I forgetting any fees besides that, inspection, and the excise tax? Thanks in advance.
>inb4 buy a real car
2nd gens are far and away the shittiest gens.
3rd gens look and act OVER9000 times better, although the design of the A/C is pure, unadulterated shit.
1st or 4th gens are really what you're after. But good luck finding a 1st gen in decent shape. 4th gens have airbags which can save you a few bucks with insurance.
Like $5k probably. Find a better example, be prepared to fix shit.
>Junior in high school
>being an underageb&
I would personally save anither thousand for replacing what anything that needs it and generally getting the car to fully working condition, because chances are it won't be.
I'm 19 and pay about $70 a month for insurance on my 89 Mustang, and that has no airbags at all.
And it cost me about $200 for plates and registration
How come majority of car enthusiasts are so quick to spend money on go-fast parts for their car (regardless of whatever it is)
But won't spend money on learning how to properly race/drive?
I see plenty of people on tracks straight hooning the econoshitbox around the track having tons of fun but also learning how to properly handle their car to their own limits.
>>16579584
Because it's easier to throw money at your car than to perfect your driving techniques.
>>16579612
baka.
All these cucks talk about other bad drivers when IRL they are just as shit
>>16579584
Because a majority of "car enthusiasts" just want to have a cool car to show off, they don't care as much about driving. Prime example of this is the stance fad
Good day, /o/. I have a challenge for you all.
Say at least one good thing about it.
I.
Fucking.
Dare.
You.
Mate.
Its fast
Fast as shit and owning one adds you to an elusive club.
Downside: you're more then likely a douche and it removes the cool factor.
it's significantly more downforce than my car
My friend drives pic related. I raced him with my turbo miata and this nigger beat me. I looked up the spcs and its only 100hp. We raced from 15mph up to 80mph and he fucking beat me in 3rd gear. He said he does not even shift he just puts it in third and floors it. What the fuck is wrong with me, are miatas really that big of a meem car? What mods do i have to do to beat this guy?
>Inb4 kys

AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. YOU JUST LOST TO THE CHEAPEST CAR IN THE USA
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>16579389
ok youre not helping, i need to know how the fuck he won and what mods i can do to beat him. I have a manual boost controller but idk how to install it. He said all the new nissans have something called pure drive and its more 2x more powerful than v-tec. I just dont get how im losing when im turbo and hes not even shifting gears.
Discuss.
You fucking madman.
Frolo died this way.
I swear m8, the heat in texas usually burns all of the scent off in one go and you get in your car and it's a fucking headache nightmare.
Nahh leather is definetly the best scent
You know what, /o/? I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me.
The proportions are fucky
>>16579214
I've seen it in person and I'm not impressed. Maybe it was the color (black) but the car lacked any charisma.
The Mclarens parked next to it were much more interesting to ogle.
>>16579214
THIS COLOR FUCKING TRIGGERS ME
WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE ORANGE OR BROWN?
I AM NOT COLOR BLIND WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME??????
Lincolns future

Are they coming back to life? Will they BTFO ze Germans?
>>16579180
I wouldn't get ahead of myself and say they'll blow away the Germans as they currently have no V8 engined vehicles and don't hold a certain aire of prestige. However I can say their interior quality has gotten very good and I like how they ride and corner. They're absolutely fantastic as far as FWD biased vehicles go. I would go so far as to say their build quality has matched BMWs and could see them rivaling Audi and Mercedes if they put enough devotion towards it. They're not like GM and don't let cost cutting leak in to as much of their supply network.
Driving dynamics, which will be just as important as styling and tech are going to determine if they're going to play with the big 3 German luxury brands globally, and they'll need more RWD vehicles before we can launch any opinions on that. I think they're on the right path though. Unlike Cadillac, I actually felt like I was in a proper premium luxury vehicle at parity with the Germans when sitting in a Continental. Lincoln is on the correct path for a bright future. Let's hope they don't screw it up.
what's their focus though?
just nice-ish fords?
cadillac is focusing heavily on performance. what does lincoln care about?
i mean if they balls to the walls build quality, material quality, and interior design they could go after mercedes

Interessting points you guys are bringing.
Also the style of new lincoln cars are really impressive.
Anyone got experience with Subaru wagons? Are they better, more fun and/or more practical than any other random wagon?
Parts are interchangeable across many platforms and generations. Large following for lots of info in forums. Lightweight wagons with good power. Research the specific year and model you might be interested in and you'll make a great purchase.

Are you retarded?
You're at the store, picking up your monthly supply of black ice. A gypsy corners you and puts a curse on you (being the autist you are you do nothing to stop him). Your shitbox will transform any car you like, BUT:
>You can never drive any other car.
>You have to keep it until you die.
>It will never have any mechanical trouble or need maintenance other than basics
>If you break the deal your shitbox will come alive "Christine" style and kill you
What do you pick and why?

sounds good, long as this "Christine" deal means it'll fix itself of any existing damage
>implying I'll ever get around to fixing the rust spots, alignment, wheels or slight bumper droop otherwise
I'm trying to buy myself a new car but cannot for the fucking life of me decide, I didn't really want to ask /o/ 'which car iz gud' because the sticky addresses that. But I wanted something specific.
I made a short-list of cars I could see myself driving, essentially it's just anything RWD and Manual that'll go faster than your average boat anchor. The Corolla is an engine swap, the Cressida a manual conversion and engine swap, the F150 just because I have a soft spot for a big murrican truck, could also be a Silverado or something as well really. The European cars are their for fun, I'm willing to eat maintenance costs, plus I think the Z4 is reliable, not sure on the Boxster though.
I even made a poll because I'm sick of tearing my hair out trying to choose. Thanks in advance /o/, you're my final hope before I just cave and buy a Civic.

1. how much experience do you have working on cars
2. how much do you think you would be able to work on said car
3. where do you live, and in what conditions will you have to drive this car.
>>16578708
>I think the Z4 is reliable, not sure on the Boxster though
Porsches are reliable as hell as far as sports cars go, as long as you make sure the IMS bearing has been replaced.

I read none of what you posted.

What's the best line through this? I tried going wide out-in-out, but it seems to not work. Best lap times were achieved with slamming brakes and getting some drift action going or just powering the shit out of the corner. Trying to take it smoothly didn't work for shit. What gives?
>ib4 shit driver
>>16578660
P.S. cart size for reference. I am not even sure taking it cleanly is possible.
I don't remember Speed Secrets covering this shit either.
obviously hitting the apex would be the best line through it
there's a billion other factors that go into how you should take it though and your gay ass drawing doesn't help
if sliding the rear end around is the best way to get it to rotate then keep doing that, it's all relative
>>16578704
I don't know what "hitting the apex" means here. To get in a position to "hit the apex", I have to start from the top right corner (to the left of it actually).
What does /o/ think of the Lexus SC300?
Need a new car desu and there's one for not very much near me.

Yeah an Oldsmobile. Been giving me a ton of problems (Lifter tick even after replacing them, runs like shit even after tuning the carb and running all new vacuum lines) and rust is starting because Michigan.
