>Julian Koster of the Music Tapes and Neutral Milk Hotel has a new endeavor—a podcast called “The Orbiting Human Circus (of the Air),” SPIN reports. It’s part of the Night Vale Presents network—the team behind the popular fictional radio show “Welcome to Night Vale.” According to a press release, Koster’s show tells “the story of a mysteriously impossible variety show broadcast from the ballroom at the top of the Eiffel Tower, and the janitor who longs to become a part of it.” It’s set to feature appearances by Tim Robbins, Mandy Patinkin, Charlie Day, John Cameron Mitchell, and others. Listen to a teaser below.

I want to understand the inspiration behind harsh noise? What is the philosophy behind its creation? I understand that it is in part made to question our understanding of what is and is not music, but does it go deeper than that? What are the artist thoughts about what Harsh Noise represents? Any good harsh noise artist interviews that answer these questions?
Think layers of texture more than of songs i guess.

Is it like their take on techno music genres? How would you describe their other LPs
>>68267495
I really don't think Death Grips would make an album that's a "take" on anything. They're unique and they just do whatever the fuck they want musically.
ExM- Paul's Boutique-era Beastie Boys knocked up Black Flag and the baby was adopted by NWA
The Money Store- a homeless man high on bath salts embarks on a rampage with a lead pipe, beating up every vibrantly dressed tourist in Amsterdam
No Love Deep Web- one man who self-induced psychosis by locking himself in an abandoned apartment complex steps into the real world for the first time in five years
Government Plates- a fifth-dimensional spider attempts to manifest itself as a normal third dimension person and chaos ensues
Niggas On The Moon- a black man dresses himself with a trash bag poncho, leaving his home state behind in a vain attempt to become transcendent
Jenny Death- the psychotic man from NLDW readjusts to normal life but a year later has another episode
Bottomless Pit- the homeless man, the spider man, the black man, and the psychotic man splice themselves in a blender

I like how you connect NLDW with Jenny Death, it really makes sense. Rest of your post doesn't.

How do I judge a quality of an improvised solo?
>Did I like it?
>yes -> it's good
>no -> it's bad
I listen to a lot of Dead and a lot of Jazz but I honestly can't really tell what makes one solo better than another. Some people are great and can break it down every aspect of it though.

great band - great inspiration for me on my journey to becoming a music lover
Mark Knopfler is one of the most stylish guitarists of all time and his stuff since Dire Straits really isn't too good apart from a couple of tracks
I was born in 1976 so I do remember when Brothers in Arms came out and Money for Nothing became the coolest music video ever seen, but that was really only where my love for Dire Straits started - the better stuff was already done earlier. They were also my first big arena rock experience on the On Every Street -tour in 1992 - incredible, I still remember with a grin my amusement when after the last song they played the Monty Python -track Always Look on the Bright Side of Life when people were leaving the stadium.
Brothers in Arms has Money for Nothing and the incredible title track, sure, but it was really Love Over Gold and the self titled album that I fell in love with after looking deeper from the hits.
Telegraph Road sparked my interest for long form tracks and pretty much sent me on my way to love prog rock. Private Investigations is also such a strong track. With my downstairs neighbor we used to listen to Love Over Gold on repeat and play Civilization IV - I still connect screenshots of that game with those songs.
Self-titled is also a real classic - incredible how an album like that could break through in 1978 - I love my punk and new wave, but I also love Dire Straits. Down to the Waterline and Sultans of Swing are all time classic tracks - when I learned to really play guitar my pride was able to do all the lead parts of Sultans of Swing, still love that Knopfler style.
A lot of listeners discredit Communique, but it's good shit! Single Handed Sailor especially has some of Knopfler's smoothest playing, it's really like the first album material evolved.
Great band, I listened to them a lot 20 years ago and I see them as one of the bands that really made me appreciate musicianship back then.
