The real question would be, what purpose would the Abh have for a mech.

What would make the most sense to me is some kind of mech in a escape capsule. The Abh are relatively unfit for surviving on the surface of a planet. Lafiel would probably have died without Jinto around to help her. Having a small pilotable mech to protect one's self on a planet would make a lot of sense.

I'm on episode 70 and I think the main group was very underdeveloped outside Crinn himself.

As for Nanashi, I guess he contributed his more instinct based observations, like an episode where he suspected something was wrong when he detected gasoline in the river stream which ended up being relevant on the Liberation army's advance.

Which is not much, but he did more than Billy(who could've been an interesting character if they ever explored how fucked up he is), Canary and that annoying fuck Giorgio.
