Prince Of Darkness was pretty fucking great. I actually liked it,and wished it would have been a second season instead.

Prince of Darkness is pretty much the Patlabor 2 of the franchise. It isn't "bad" so much as it is simply darker and different than the mostly-comedic tone of the series.

The show itself is generally fine. The narrator is a but much but as far as anime adaptations from the 80s go it's actually pretty mature. I was a fan of it growing up and I think it's worth watching as a historical curiosity if nothing else.

I don't have any specific reasons for not going after the original series, I just don't feel like having to download and watch them on my computer, I've mostly been watching stuff from Netflix on the living room lately, and noticed Robotech was available.

Airs teaming up with Kouji would have undermined handing over the gun, I feel. There's a lot of weight to that moment, Airs giving up something that gives him authority via force to someone so off the social Darwinist axis. He was pretty much saying "I'm going hands off on this one, show me what you got," the closest thing to expressing trust in Kouji.

It just wouldn't really be an Airs kid of thing to side with Kouji explicitly like that, but one also should pay hospitality with respect, so the gun is like quid pro quo like that.

G1 is like hanna barberra cartoons with robots, just a status quo sunday morning KIDS CARTOON
its there so you can like the character better, so you can show off to your friends "that robot is my guy i even own the toys of him".
Japanese G1 however feels like traditional super robot show, theres monster of the week formats but most of japs G1 happens after the movie.

so yeah, if youre not really familiar with any of the characters, you probably wont feel anything when they die or did something in the movie

Just watch the first 3 episodes (More Than Meets the Eye Part 1-3) of G1 Season 1 for the '86 movie. It sets up "who's who" "why the civil war" and "how they got to earth. Then if you enjoyed those two pieces, work through the rest of season 1 and 2.

This is a cartoon from the late 80s, no matter what its forever a toy commercial. If you want story telling, read the Marvel G1 comics (The US and UK comics branch off from each other)

they're the "turn everyone except us into a mindless vegetable" faction, right? Definitely worst faction in Gundam. At elast Ezelcant's plan had a sliver of darwinian logic in it. Zanscare's plan made slightly more sense than Seele's "turn everyone including us into Tang™" but they're definitely the looniest bunch in all of Gundam. Zanscare makes Moon Moon look like a rational philosophy.
