Any existentialism books worth reading?
>>7577871
Camus and Sartre are not amazing but they are worth reading.

Thank you
Short answer: no
I need to do an abstract hamlet assignment but I'm not creative. It needs to be a physical representation of something from the play (a drawing, cardboard, etc.) but it has to have some kind of deep meaning. It can be as simple as a tea bag but I need to elaborate.
Please provide ideas.
Your sisters semen covered panties. Symbolic of the cold quite rage that existed within Macbeth

Buy a copy of Infinite Jest and bring it to class, saying that you're expressing the banality of waxing poetic about death as hamlet does in the scene your screenshot is from.
If I a book is challenging to read, does that automatically push it above 90% of books that aren't challenging to read?
No. I got more out of reading Shel Silverstein's works than all of Joyce
>>7589427
That's because you can't comprehend anything above a fifth-grade level.
>>7589436
Not him but he's not wrong in saying that.
Silverstein is fantasfic, Joyce is a hack.
So what is Bible's End of Days prophecy about?

You're young and just starting out. You have plenty of time.
If you read two hours a day you could read every single one of these this year. Don't be a faggot. I work full time go to the gym 4x a week, and I still read a book every three days more or less.

Is he a meme?
Is he patrician?
Is he a commercial genre turd or a serious writer?
Short Answer: Meme outside of fantasy, patrician within fantasy.
>>7588038
You fucking dickhead, meme in this context just refers to cultural ubiquity on the internet. It's a totally separate question to the other two.
blimp for QUALITY DISCUSSION
When, and why, was rhyme abandoned as a mechanism for controlling the economy of information within human literary prose?
Have we established a new cultural method of keeping literature concise, and poignant?
>>7587747
If prose was intended to keep things concise and to the point, nobody told the vast majority of prose writers that.
>>7587747
Because it's not economical, neither for the reader or, especially, the writer.
Unless we wanna take the Nietzschian route that information is only for those who can, by proving that they can obtain it by force of mind, handle it.

So what's the objective value of style relative to efficient communication of a measurable quantity of information?

Conan O'Brien "To bury the living"
O'Brien's story is about a middle-class Irish undertaker who can't take it seriously when his son wants to enter a writing contest for a college scholarship because it is understood that he will work at Leigh Herlihy and Son Funeral Home. As O'Brien described the situation: "Leith felt numb at first. What his father had said (about Herlihy and Son) didn't shock him, simply the fact that it had finally been said. Without looking at his parents, Leith knew how to focus on his grandmother. She alone had the power to change it all, she alone had witnessed it twice before. Better than anyone else, Grandmother Herlihy knew the cycle. After a long pause, she looked into Leith's eyes and nodded her head.
"Leith, sick with frustration, felt the smallness of the room. He stood up and kicked his chair from under him. Without looking at anyone, he ran from the table and up the stairs leading to his room. The door slammed and the entire house shook with the force. As the china in the cabinet rattled, Grandmother Herlihy thought back to a similar scene 30 years before."
The story ends with the boy crumpling up the contest application and dropping it into the wastebasket.
Will I ever be able to understand literature properly? Does it get easier with time? I read things I do not understand and it makes me impatient. I do not have the patience to be this unintelligent.
You probably have "understand" at an un-achievable state.
maybe theres nothing to understand

Does Zen literature make any goddam sense to anyone here?
>Just get rid of conceptual thought bro
>THE MIND IS THE BUDDHA
>THE MIND IS NOT THE BUDDHA
>If you don't get rid of your discriminatory thought you'll be reincarnated a thousand times as a worm
>Just know your mind bro, KNOW YOUR MIND
How the fuck are you suppose to get anything out of this vague nonsense?
I'm not bashing on Zen, because I legit think it is real. But, I doubt anyone on this board actually HAS Zen. Reading a few books and repeating zen koans does not make you zen. So how the fuck are we suppose to make heads or tails out of this shit?
>>7587238
You're doing it wrong, man.
>>7587238
you are doing it wrong, bro, you don't try to make 'sense' out of it.
>>7587238
Zen is bullshit
eastern religions are nonsense
At my girlfriend's suggestion, I'm reading only female authors this year to atone for the fact that I read only male authors last year (how did I let that happen?!).
Name your favorite books by women, and I'll add to my to-read list!

That's eerie. How did you know I was a regular there? I was recently linked to this board, and it seems pretty good. By the way, nice threes!
Basically loneliness but while being surrounded by people. The feeling you get when you're depressed and even if you're at a night out with some friends you feel alone. Or even in the more broad sense of being by yourself in a crowded city. Perhaps looking out from your balcony and watching people go by. I don't know the word for this emotion. Particularly one without any kind of negative association. Like a serene kind of loneliness.
