This.
They're nothing alike, other than the fact they both despised woody Allen types.
Why is /lit/ such a shithole?
>>
Norman Mailer maybe.

Poetry criticism thread, I'll start:

"The unpenned reports garnish my bedside,
I eviscerate the books, exposing the naked pulpy flesh
Of the colossus, the immortals
I choose to decay myself in peace

Capsized bowls and the corpses of bottles
I’ll use to pockmark the vibrant veneer
And the kind, the meek will all flee,
And inherit this hellish Earth
“F*** off, get out” I’ll say, vouchsafing,
Sacrosanct solace in this homely chamber
Today I expel my life from my mind"

The time has come /lit/

For the past year I have allocated my soul to the craft of writing and am now sitting with three novels and six short stories that are collecting digital dust as they lay idle in the hard drive. I am satisfied with my progress and could not fathom a greater satisfaction than what I knownow, however I am not beyond acknowledging the benefit that I may gain from distributing my work so I come to you for advice.

I am aware of a website that compiles a list of literary journals to which one may submit short stories so it is primarily the novels that I have not decided how to try and distribute. I would appreciate any advice that is more helpful than to search online for agents; that I can and will do until I receive a better idea from you, my brothers.

If it at all helps, one of the works, the first I wrote although without the intention of advertising it as such, I will say falls under the genre of young adult fiction as I believe it will gain a marketable advantage if I do so. The second is a psychological thriller and the third, an epistolary piece that I do not yet know how to classify aside from literary fiction.

I have told myself that I will not begin working on the fourth, the idea of which has reached the stage of conception and which beckons to be manifested into writing, until I distribute these so that I can at least say, I tried.

Writer's Market.

Buy the book for $40 or sign up for online subscription for $40/year.

writersmarket.com & writersdigest.com

It's all you need. Industry standard.
>>
>>7564522
I am familiar with writersdigest, but have only now heard of writersmarket; would you recommend paying the subscription fee and doing it through them or send to agents as are listed online?

I have found a number of agents already since I created the post but the process seems tedious if nothing else, also they are overwhelming in number so it's a little difficult to decide between them as of right now.

Any books that combine retrofuturism with hard science?

Just a friendly reminder for the diseased souls out there that reading tons of literature and philosophy without taking inspiration from it to actually go out and live the things you read about amounts to nothing but leading a handicapped existence. Have a nice day

How do you resolve the speculative vs realist fiction dilemma in your head? For writing purposes, that is.

To elaborate a bit further, all of the narrative stories that I've grown up with are largely not realistic. Moviewise it's the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Dune, even Pokemon which I find engaging, these kind of Hero's Journey fantasy novels. But in terms of reading I have only ever enjoyed realist fiction like Dostoy, Dickens, Hemingway, Hugo etc. How do you work out which one of these is best to write? I have written bits of both but don't know how to choose one to focus on.

STOP THE FILM!
*record scratch and pause*
You ever have one of those BAD days? And I mean really bad? Well it turns out you're not alone. Even wizards have their ups and downs now and again...
Hi. My name's Gandalf. I'm an istari from Middle Earth. You see the poor chump clinging to an outcrop of rock, dangling off the side of a collapsed stone bridge in the dwarven holds of Khazad-dûm? Yup. That's me. You may be saying "what are you doing there"? Well, to really understand, we need to go back a few years...
*rewind to third age of the sun when the five Maiar take human form*
We came to middle earth many years ago as the istari. We were young and bright eyed back then. Those were the days...
You see that handsome spirit on the second left? That's me! Man, I looked good back then! The guy next to me is Saruman. We'll get to him later. Okay, lets skip forward a bit...
*fast forward to gandalf graduating hogwarts*

How do you gain literary knowledge about a book? In other words: Do you restrict yourself to merely reading closely and attentively or is there a routine you follow to achieve greater understanding about the subject matter the piece of literature at hand deals with?

By jerking off on it. It's a very enlightening experience.
