I´m feeling kinda feely tonight, so please post your /lit/ feels.

montaigne's essays are pretty horrible classical quote + gossip-tier shit
>>

Yeah, but it still hurts, you know.
Also:
>You will never read Harry Potter and Tintenherz again for the first time
>You can´t read every book in the world
>You speak neither french nor russian nor italian nor that much spanish, so you have to read every classic translated

Feels really bad, man.

What does /lit/ think of "nice" books? When I can, I love to collect books from publishers like Folio Society, Easton Press, Heritage Press, and so on. I don't buy such books just because they are nice, but if there's a title I really want, I'll wait and find it in a nice edition.

What do you have, if anything?

ITT: Post your high-quality editions or just be a simpleton and call me a faggot for having nicer books and better taste than you.

old editions are always nicer than folio garbage. capitalists are literally laughing their asses off that you'll drop dough on a "nice" edition of a public domain work that you can find an actually nice edition of for a buck.

doesnt matter to me. those books are made to serve as decoration for aesthetes who value form over function, which is the opposite of what literature should be.

the nicest book i own is a quran i found in a box next to a dumpster. i like it and because of the antiquity and reverence of the text deserves some stage dressing. moby dick, however, does not.

Aww, man! Folios are my favorite! I guess I'm just a sucker. I only buy them second-hand, so I guess I'm still managing to outjew the capitalists, to some extent. I buy 90% of my books at Half Price Books, and the other 10% at local secondhand shops around the area.

The things I really like about Folios are both the paper quality and learning about the type that was used (This book was set in Polybius, etc...).

I don't know why I like that so much, but I do.

Someday I'll own a book printed on vellum, dammit.

Hey /lit/,

Wordplay question here, is there a term for when a character's first and last name combine to represent a real object?

Example:

Winter Green

Cherry Blossom

etc.

I've been Googling like made but to no avail.

For a forum about writing, I'd think that there would be more responses being, well, written.
>>
It's possible that we don't know or the word doesn't exist.
>>
>>7751384
I don't think there is a word, nor does there need to be. On a slightly unrelated note, my favorite example of this is from Lolita:

>Dolores Haze
>dolorous haze

I need a non fiction opinionated book that shows the authors viewpoint (can't be vague like the communist manifesto or atlas shrugged, has to be over a specific topic like obesity, global warming, smoking, ect).

I'm looking for one about the Iraq 2003 war, preferably one that is anti that war

thanks in advance

Seems to be what you are looking for, reputable authors a plus.

>>
Why does it have to be "opinionated that shows the authors viewpoint"? Is a non fiction book not supposed to do this? Is this a high school english critical analysis class where you critique authors for for letting their beliefs get in the way?
Why is it opinionated to oppose the 2003 Iraq War?

Anyway, something by Chomsky
Rogue States maybe

Why are folio books so slim?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.

Because the pages are 15"+ tall so the book requires less pages

I mean the aspect is weird. Not that they have few pages. They seem so slender compared to regular books. Feels like I'm reading a pamphlet.

Is it even worth taking the time to complete a novel?

I've found very minor success with my poetry, managing to get some published a while back. Since then, I've been working on a novel, but it's hard to believe it's worth it.

How valuable is a completed novel? If I really hunker down and work hard for the next six months, what can I realistically expect will happen once it's done?

If I pour my heart and time into something that ends up going nowhere, I'll probably kill myself. I've spent a lifetime suffering for the written, it's not fulfilling anymore on its own without the promise of some kind of external success or recognition.
