Let's try to write Chuck Palahniuk stories.
A guy sticks a hot dog up his butt. He thinks he pooped it out, but 10 years later, he realizes it's still there, so he poops it out and eats it for some reason. Then to make it even better he cuts off his dick.

Lol not bad.

>A kid likes drinking Dr. Pepper up his butt because he likes the sugar rush
>One day he accidentally drinks too much into his butt and gets diabetes
>He goes to see a dr. to get medication to treat his diabetes
>The doctor's name is Diet Dr. Pepper
>The doctor assrapes the kid until his colon turns to jello, which is later revealed to be one of the 23 ingredients in Dr. Pepper

A man catches his foreskin in his fly. Ouch. Another man tells him to burn down a zipper factory so he does. Twist: they are the same man.

Missing 411 series by David Paulides

I'm looking for feedback from any /lit/ites that have read these books. I am considering buying the hard copy collectors edition of the series.

Appreciated

My wife got into them for a bit. I haven't read them, but she said that Paulides misrepresents information a lot and that the books get really repetitive.
>>
>>8245979
Thanks! I can imagine they would get repetitive wit the entire premise of the series being a case study of people gone missing.

In regards to him misrepresenting information. I have heard this a few times and I find it interesting. Any chance you could be more specific?
>>
>>8245999
He often leaves out information that lends itself to a more plausible and less "mysterious" explanation. In some cases the causes for disappearances are obvious but he leaves them out.

Let's brainstorm an outrageous plot that forms into a several thousand page novel. I'll start: An actor is found dead in Bangkok apparently from auto-erotic asphyxiation. His ex wives claim he may have been murdered.

Soon they find links to a group of cultural marxists intent on breeding out whiteness (the dead actor was white)
>>
So the wife writes to Sherlock Holmes to solve the case, but the letter ends up reaching Santa instead.
>>
>>8246255
Santa, confused and believing the letter to be a gift wish list from one of the actor's ex wife begging him for a replacement husband, creates a living toy replica of her ex husband and mails it to her.

Pray tell a word for a person's little phrase they like to repeat, bonus points for if it connotes instruction.

None of these will do
> maxim
>idiom
>precept
>aphorism

I'm looking for a word which means an idiosyncratic phrase used by a particular person which has overtones of being instructive.

Is a novel series that fully describes long greasy shits using a large portion of one of the novels appropriate for youngsters?

And I thought GoT was the name for the /tv/ adaptation of the novel series by J.J. Abrams.

Forgive the MS Paint map. It's a decent template for me at the moment.

But anyway, I have a fantasy/adventure novel in mind. No humans exist in this universe, and magic pervades everything. Gemstones allow for the utilisation and refining of inherent magical talents, which almost every living creature possesses.

Basically I just want to see if the language I'm using fits the theme of the story. I'm trying to focus on world-building and lore in the first sections, so forgive the apparent lack of plot.

Criticism that is not simply "this sucks" is VERY appreciated.

It's an okay idea if you set a target audience of around 6-13 and make the prose very simple and easy to read.
>>
>>8245738
Perhaps I'm ignorant when it comes to publishing a novel, but I don't plan on trying to appeal to a set audience. If you can comprehend the book, you're old enough to enjoy it, no?

Bookdepository has this on sale for 7.70 and I'm tempted to pick it up because I'm interested in learning more about Ancient Rome. Before I buy it, though, I'm wondering are there are better books about the era that are more along the lines of 'popular history.'

>>8245693
I can't really help because I don't like pop history, but with that said, why are you uninterested in a more serious approach? What are you hoping to get out of a book on the subject?
>>
Fun book. A bit simplistic and presumptuous it's almost a dramatisation, but Holland is a decent historian and rarely misleading or inaccurate.

Read it if you want the "story" of the republic and if it's to your liking then go for a serious history.
>>
>>8245844
It's just that I'm more in the mood for a story and learning something in the process is just a plus. I'm not looking to be some authority on Ancient Rome; rather just know more about it.

I'm a self-help cuck. Maybe it's just because I walked off the job and proceeded to drink Wild Turkey till I felt like shit posting. But here it goes.

I am worried that I am more interested in the idea of being smart than, you know, actually being interested in things, intensely perusing them, and thinking creatively within that given field of interest to thereby smart.

I'll go ahead and save you the memes and say yes I know I'm a god damn pleb, and I should probably kill myself.

I read a lot (just like any other c/lit/fag) and write fiction just about every day. I study poetry. I've gotten my academic research down to a fucking formula. I go on long walks and meditate deeply on life. But I don't give a fuck about any of it.

I feel like I am posturing. Like I only care about being perceived as smart. And whenever anything seems too hard or too time consuming I dismiss myself as lazy or, when I'm really faced with a challenge, like my mental capacities hit a brick wall.

How the fuck do I get over this? Are there any books I can read? Any advice? Or should I just spend the rest of my life reading Russian lit about being a god damned pleb and fucking suck it up?
