Does anyone here know Ancient Greek? How many years would it take me to learn it, considering that I would study it 2 hours everyday?

Fapping for additional 2 hours every day would be more productive.

it would only take you about a year to learn ancient fapping

A year or two. Ancient Greek is worth it if you have a genuine interest in literature, unless you're a psued who just reads for fashion and can't be assed to actually bother understanding what you read.

In a 2005 interview Green was asked, "And literature is written to be entertaining?" to which he replied emphatically, "Absolutely. My God, to read without joy is stupid!!"

He's a good bloke. His lectures on Aristotle and Descartes are really good.

His lectures on Hegel are ~~ ~~ I don't think he is explaining anything and when I finally 'get' a passage I would communicate it in a completely different and straightforward way.

He rated his own book 4 stars on goodreads and I said how that was a weird thing to do and he asked me what's wrong with it and I didn't respond because I was intimidated by his phrasing.

Anybody else here a legitimate, verifiable, Good Will Hunting-esque genius?

On the one hand it's a blessing, but on the other it's an almost unbearable curse. All my life I've aced every test I've ever set. I've failed at practically nothing. Even in sports I excelled while other "academic" kids refused to even take part. I've just completed my BA in English Lit at the age of 19 and I'm about to start on my MA (fully-funded scholarship), but I don't know how long I can continue being a genius before I eventually burn out or break down. My professors all tell me that I stand out and that's it's obvious that I'm destined for great things. Heck, one of them has said outright that he wishes he had possessed my intelligence and work-rate when he was my age. Whether it's math or science or literature I just excel in everything I do without even considering that there was an option that I could not. Just last semester I solved a theorem that people had been working on for the past two decades (I won't say which one because my name is now indelibly linked with said theorem) and that was a for a class I wasn't even supposed to have attended. Psychiatrists have said that people in my very small demographic of highly intellectual individuals usually suffer from aspergers or some related disorder which deprives them of a healthy social life, but I have surprised each one in turn when I inform them that in fact I am an incredibly sociable and well-liked individual (despite also being a mysterious hermit-like recluse) and that every girl I have either dated or simply penetrated a bunch of times has described me as the kind of guy they could really see themselves with long-term.

Are there any novels about this kind of phenomena?

I read a small article on The World as Will and Representation and it really caught my attention. I fear, though, that some previous knowledge on maybe Kant, Plato or other important thinkers might be necessary to understand it.

I have two 1000 word essays to write by Monday. One is creative and one is discursive, I chose do it on the rise of right-wing politics in Europe. How the fuck do I do this shit? I keep procrastinating and getting distracted. Help a guy out /lit/, what do I do and what do I need?

Are you asking how to write an essay?

1. Think of an idea
2. Have an opinion on that idea
3. Defend and elucidate that idea until you hit the word cap
>>
lol at 2000 fucking words being a problem

Do you believe words mean what they say in the dictionary, or do words mean what people use them for?

Take a look at this list in the picture for an example.

Or, another popular one is that most people call the metal casing full of bullets you put into a gun a "clip" yet, the dictionary says this is a "magazine."

If most people use a word one way, and the dictionary says something else, does that mean most people are wrong and don't understand the language they are speaking, or the dictionary is wrong and doesn't understand the language a majority of people are using? If you have to "correct" everyone else, are you the one who is wrong?

Words seem to get into the dictionary by the way they are used.

However things like the changing definition of racism seems to me to be bogus. For example the usage of literally in that picture both are correct. It has a tradition, in the figurative sense, in literature dating back ~two centuries. However the new racism definition is ideological, rather new, and limited to one field of usage. Fine if I am frozen and revived two hundred years and 'Power + Privilege' becomes the new norm I'll have to accept that language went on without me. But I am neither going to live two hundred years ago or two hundred years into the future.

In short I think it is a little bit of both.

Read Wittgenstein.

Do you believe that a technical knowledge of poetry (analyzing scansion, meter, rhythm, different forms of verse, etc.) is required for a reader to fully appreciate a poem? Or Is a poet's ability to use these techniques to convey meaning to the reader eliminate the need for a deeper insight into the mechanics of poetry?

I don't think so. Personally I do like good rhymes or flow.

That said, many of the poems I love(Dulce et Decorum est for example), doesn't include that much rhyming, and instead has this incredibly well-made narrative structure.
>>
>>9055274
Knowing that a poem was written in a certain meter or rhyme scheme makes you appreciate the effort put into the poem. However, it should sound nice regardless of whether you know what specific meter it is using. The rhythm should be mostly instinctive, especially if you have listened to any music.
>>
What I like about poetry is that it's possible to read it all without much reflection or to it reflecting about every single word and still enjoy it. I think that a deep reflection, about things like figures of speech or sometimes even single words, is required to fully understand what a poet wanted to express with his work. But a poet's skill is even to make it enjoyable without that effort, since a technical analysis can sometimes be boring if you're not particularly interested about what you're reading.

Dear /lit/tle ponies,
What would be the literary equivalent of this?

I know fanfiction is against the rules, but I crave that silly/sexy tone in written form.

Innuendo, nonsense and silly improbable sex everywhere.

Does such a thing exist somewhere?

Douglas had to poop, his butt was all stinky because he had to poop so badly. There was a gross woman named Rebecca who was sunbathing all naked and she was fat. Douglas walked up to her and said, "I need to poop". "Okay, Rebecca replied, "I like poop". Douglas squatted down over the fat sunbathing lady and went poop. The poop sat there on Rebecca's boobs, looking like a weiner.

...

"Why are we here?", Douglas cried as poop came out his weiner in a long thin strip, it was weiner-poop, which is the grossest poop of all.

The peepee got on the woman's leg and she screamed, pooping out her boobs.

And so when the pee got mixed with the poop it smelled like a butt.

And the poop and the pee lived happily ever after.
