I like how they made the trigger "reset-lazy" so even the semi only models that I fired at Czech ranges gave some decent bursts of controllable length with some finger control.
I wonder if you could create a makeshift fire selector with some tape and paper/cardboard to keep the trigger from moving back too far and resetting.

Depends on the rock. A piece of quartz with lots of smooth edges, you could probably get some decent partials. Sandstone or other gritty rocks? Forget about it.

Get a Savage 110 instead.

If you aren't interested in history, avoid milsurp. They won't perform better than a modern bolt gun, ammo is often (but not always) rare/expensive, and they're not even cheap anymore.

My 2 cents is that it's still a good rifle for the price. They're fun, accurate and durable. There's better rifles out there, but maybe not many that are quite as much fun.
