I think the FN P90 is quite possibly the most well rounded and versitile weapon on the market today. Take cost completely out of the equation (yes it and it's ammo are expensive, I get it) explain why this gun isn't so great to me, seriously. I think it's amazing.

The P90 combines all the best attributes of Pistols, SMG's and AR's plus it is the only gun that can give me a 'I'm not really sure why but I'm hard right now' feel. If you consider the trigger placement compared to the end of the barrel (military version, not that long barrel of the civilian version) It's roughly the same compactness of a pistol for handling purposes. It's got a 50 round magazine that ensures you get whatever job you set out to do: done. It's got a fire rate of 900 RPM for situations that might need a good spray (plus 50 rounds to lay down a nice cover). Finally it takes what is essentially an AR caliber round and lessens the velocity to inflict more damage at closer range. AR's are superior at a distance over 200 meters no question, but within that 200m range the P90 is an unstoppable force. AR rounds will slice clean through most opponents and as a result, actually are less likely to kill or stop an advancing enemy. P90 rounds fire at a slower velocity which results in more stopping power and more serious injury caused to opponent. Plus the top loading magazine is really innovative, sexy and it's bullpup design amounts to a more accurate/precise weapon.

The mags, rounds, and gun are expensive as shit, I know, ignore that. Just the gun itself as a PDW (let's say the zombie apocalypse where you scavange this military grade weapon, a dozen magazines, and unlimited ammo) nothing else can really compete with this.

An AK47 will be easier to find ammo/parts for and easier to take care of, sure. But assuming you teach yourself how to take great care of the weapon and have a tool kit to perform maintenance, what could possibly be better and why?

I'm not sure if this belongs in this board but i read some warhammer 40k books and was wondering just how strong the imperial lasrifle is. I did some googling and found some numbers

this is from the lexicanum stats for a common lasrifle

Weight: 2.3 kg
Length: 900 millimetres
Magazine Type: 19 megathule range (rechargable)
Type of Fire: Single shot or fully automatic
Rate of Fire (cyclic): 220 shots per minute
Shot Intensity: low to high

is that megathule supposed to be a joule? Assuming that the battery holds 19 MJ which can supply any where from 20 shots to 100 depending on the energy setting. That means that each shot puts out at least 190KW average on lowest setting and almost a megawatt at highest. i know that that energy doesn't hit all at once and is spread out over the pulse but that is still alot of energy for a weapon which is famously under powered.

Is this right? Any one with any knowledge of how lasers work able to give an idiot explanation of what a laser with that kind of power would be capable of?

>>28085778
Yes, that is more or less correct. It is a DAMN strong gun in the universe, against unarmored targets.

The problem is, as is discussed time and time again, that everything else is so BEEF MC HUGE MANLY MUSCLE ARMOR GUTS RIP AND TEAR that it becomes a more annoying flashlight to them.

IIRC, overcharged blasts, which would be around 20 shots worth, can penetrate standard Astartes/Space Marine tier armor, and do minor tissue damage after penetration, which is pretty good, and it's what Death Korps Krieg use.
>>
It's only considered underpowered because the xenos that it shoots at either have great armor or are crazy tough with multiple redundant organs and just shrug such things off without a care. That's the point of 40k, that the galaxy is filled with horrors that can kill a man easily

Gotcha, that fits with the book and now that i'm doing a little research into the wh40k universe things make more sense.

Any EMT/Paramedics here? Do you carry or wear body armor? Are you allowed to carry or wear body armor? Have you been attacked?

I'm in college and I like the idea of helping to save peoples' lives, but I would want a more active role and don't want to spend 10 years in school, so I'm thinking about pursuing being a paramedic. I just don't want to get filled with .380 by some thug who mistakes me for a cop.

Also, are you happy with your job? Is the pay in your area enough to support yourself and any family that relies on you?

You know, that the Rod of Asclepius has only one snake, right? Asclepius is the greek god of medicine and healing

Two snakes is the Staff of Caduceus, which is carried by Hermes, a messenger but also a trickster.

Guys, getting a glock for christmas, it's for concealed carry.
Now, this is the decision to make:
Glock 30 or glock 36?
Don't tell me to get a 40, I don't want a 40.
Don't tell me to get a 9mm, that shit is weak and wont have a chance of stopping Tyrone.
BTW, almost 6ft, 135lbs, planning on appendix carry.
Will printing be an issue with how thin I am?

Printing will not be a problem with appendix carry. 9mm/capacity fags will however.

look faggot. I like .45. A lot. It's my favorite handgun round.

But you're fucking retarded.

That guy in MN that shot that charging pack of niggers used a 1911. 8 rounds of .45. Hit 5 people and not a single one had a life threatening injury.

Get a 9mm ford dat capacity homie. That's what I ended up doing.

TP-82.

The standard issue gun on every Soyuz spacecraft.
Three barrels, can shoot slug, buckshot/pellets, flares and standard ammo (with its rifled barrel).
Its detachable stock is a machete in a cover.

Astronauts' training for Soyuz flight includes target practice with this gun. They praise the accuracy and comfortable use.

...what ammo does it use for the rifled barrel, and what caliber of shotgun ammo?
35 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
Rifle used 5.45×39mm.

Shotgun barrel used 12.5×70 mm (40 Gauge).
>>
>>28085233
>5.45×39

Standard AK-74 ammo? Damn, this thing must have a kick when you fire it like a pistol (without stock).

They could use it in space instead of a jetpack.
>>
>>28085248
With a full length barrel the impulse of 5.45x39 is in the .357SIG to .45ACP region. And then we run it through that barrel with the same powder?

I don't know where else to ask this but do you think it's worth having a car in the military?

I currently drive an 06 Mustang GT and I'm enlisting in the Navy. I'll be in San Diego for a couple years so it'll cost $1000-$1500 to move my car over there. Is it worth it? Did you guys use your car often in the military?

Another option I'm thinking of is selling my car and buying a motorcycle again once I'm over there.
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>28084860
Yes it is absolutely worth it. Consider this:

You already have a mustang. You are one HUGE step ahead of the brand new E-2 or E-3 in the dorms (or barracks for other fags) who spends 75% of their pay on a car payment on a loan with some ungodly interest rate.
>>
How do you know you'll be in San Diego?
>>
>>28084860
Can you not drive it to San Diego?

Do You want a bike? And do you want to use this as a catalyst? If you can afford it, I'd try to keep the car, and get a bike, but that may not be an option.

>>28084865
>Huge Step Ahead
It's an '06 Mustang GT, not and enlistment bonus ducati.

If you can pay cash for the bike, and want to ride one in all weather conditions do it, because you might as well spoil yourself, and payments suck

What does /k/ think of Active Protection Systems?

Most experts agree that China leads in this field, does the USA plan to catch up?
Instead of making domestic APS systems, Russia would be better off buying Chinese wons. Just that they should not copy it.

Personally im really tempted to buy one, the concept of a basically no recoil carbine with a cheap ammo that looks hella cool sounds good to me. Even if it comes at a high price.
>>
No recoil my ass, shot a retired model and when 20 rounds leave the barrel in a half a second it'll go up pretty fast. Nothing like the kick of a good AR but still. Also, ammo for that thing is like Auschwitz for money
>>
>>28084762
You see that angled bit at the front with the groove that looks like a great spot to hold on to, just behind the foregrip?
Apparently it can malfunction/break if you hold it like a foregrip.
Even though it's almost perfect for the job, it can't do it.
