That's not primarily why it is shaped like that. The curve multiplies the force of the swing, think of the protrusion like an axe head.

What's a good all around first shotgun, /k/?
I was thinking about a Remington 870 but I heard the new production models are trash. The Mossberg 500 seems similar, but I'm confused about what the difference is compared to the 590 or 590A1. And I've had some people tell me to not waste money on a pump action and go straight to a semi-automatic like a stoeger.
I'm looking to spend $400-700.

What determined submachinegun deployment in WWII? Seems to me like in various armies it was done differently, like you had entire squads with SMGs (USSR, Germans) in some armies while in others only one or two of the dudes have SMGs (US)

WWII wise, here's an country that didn't use SMGS all that much, Japan. Now why didn't they issue them in large numbers? And I'll let someone else take over.

Hey guys, need some help here. I'm part of an alt-right group, due to some friends and there is guy claiming to be an ex-marine, and his story just rubs me the wrong way. He can't name a specific MOS number when I ask him about it (He just says truck driver), and he claims his service for for just 3 years. I'm moving to a redneck state (indiana) in a few short months, and I'm going to get a carry permit right off the bat.
I'm not a totally unresponsible hoon, but I also don't really feel like carrying a 1911 around or something like that. I kinda have a thing for older stuff.
