Hey /k,
I've been on the hunt for the "perfect" optic for my POF P308 (pic related) and I've narrowed it down to three choices:
Trijicon VCOG
Elcan SpecterDR 1-4
US Optics SR-4C
All of them have good, if not excellent battery life, they are all very rugged and built to last, the USO and the Trijicon are built in the USA (Elcan is made in Canada, close enough), and all can function like a red dot at 1x, but have variable zoom to take advantage of the reach of the .308.
Maximum shooting distance near me is 500 yards, and I'm just a snot nosed civilian, I won't be deploying/patrolling with this rifle.
Price isn't really a factor, they are all about the same amount ($2200-2500).
There is no magic optic, but I think that either of these 3 fit the bill. What say you? Are there some scopes out there that I'm completely neglecting? Vortex Razor HD II comes to mind, but battery life is shit, same goes for Leupold MK6 1-6, and Trijicon AccuPower.

The VCOG is pretty good. The SpectreDR is good, but the 1x has been criticized harshly by some of the owners on here.
Are you looking for variable optics specifically? I've heard good things about the Spectre OS4 with side mounted red dot. It would be cheaper too.

Yeah, I'm really looking for a variable optic. If I was going to go with a fixed magnification, I would probably go with an ACOG. I've read lots of posts on FN forums about guys running the 3.5x ACOGs on their SCAR 17's and having good luck with those.
But with the advances in optics technology in the past few years, it makes sense to get a variable power scope. I have a set of Griffin Armament Offset irons to run as backups, or the Magpul MBUS Pro's that are sitting on my rifle now.

How much slide movement is due to case impinging on the slide face and how much movement is due to the inertia of the slide?
I've always assumed the casE impinging on the slide face was responsible for the complete stroke of the slide
Does the slide move as the bullet is exiting the barrel or does it start moving after the bullet is leaving and how much of the slide moving is due from the case or the inertia

So my dad's a convicted felon for being a raging verbally abusive drunk when I was younger. He owned guns, his friend shot himself one night, he got drunk that night when he heard the news. Something set him off and he went on a tirade against my mom and me being the dumb 14 year old at the time stepped in and it got into a pretty bad mess. Eventually he started saying shit about shooting all of us. This scared the shit out of us, we called the cops, he got arrested and his guns taken away. He can not legally own a firearm as of now.
My mom has recently told me she is interested in buying a rifle and my dad wants to buy one too but seeing as he can't he came to me to ask to buy it and put it under my name but to give it to him afterwards.. I've been looking around for information on this sort of thing since it's a pretty grey area,

I'm most likely going to say no because it's a risky and dumb thing to do, I don't own a safe, it would be kept in his, and he's still a drinker that can get nasty despite simmering down in his older age. My main concern is just what would happen say the law caught a whiff of this situation, would he be the one getting charged for possession of a gun that is not his or would it also boomerang back to me and hit me with charges? For reference I live in California which already makes obtaining guns a fucking annoyance.
You guys seem pretty alright from what I've witnessed on other boards.

What do you do?
My proposal is to start calling daily anonymous tips in to every police department saying that there are guns at such and such an address.
Think about it.
This accomplishes two things:
First, it causes the police to waste resources on phony tips.
Secondly, it fans the flames. The people who get their doors kicked in and dogs shot at 3 am for an anonymous tip that turned up absolutely nothing are going to be furious. And when it's happening frequently to all of their neighbors, they will probably start questioning whether or not they're actually getting anonymous tips, or if they are just raiding everyone and giving that as the reason. As more people start to fear and distrust their government, more people are going to want to stand up.

I went to my dads house on monday for dinner after i got out of work. He lives in NY and has an unrestricted carry license (somehow, idk being from jersey thats some magic shit for me) and he left his gun on the coffee table in his living room. When I saw it literally the first thing that came to my mind was picking it up and shooting myself in the mouth.
I love guns k, but this shit scarred the shit out of me literally right after I had the thought.
This is why I dont trust myself with owning a gun right now. Do other people who own guns feel this way or am I secretly just suicidal and dont realize it yet? Also theres times when Im day dreaming and just picture a bullet going thru my brain and kinda get weird feels along the proposed flight path in my brain, not pain but just like feels. Like I dont think I'm depressed and rarely feel sad but again just realizing that the first thing I thought of when seeing that bursa thunder unattended on the coffee table was me killing myself with it scared the fucking shit out of me. Should I seek help or is this normal
