I was at a used gunstore the other day and I saw a bunch of these FN pistols in .32 ACP for dirt cheap, like $180-220 range. Are they worth getting? are they OK shooters or do they function like absolute dogshit?

.32Acp is pretty cheap too, so I'm thinking about it.

180 for an fn ain't bad.

.32 wouldn't be my first choice but it's better than a .22

Is there a way to fully draw a bow without having the string smack your inner forearm? I know there's guards and shit but I feel like not using it will promote better handling of the bow.

So I've never owned a shotgun before. I think it's time I changed that. I was thinking about a Remington 870 like in my pic as my first shotgun. It's relatively cheap, seems sturdy, and pretty much the standard.

Anyone with any personal experience with 870s can tell me anything?

Or do you have any other recommendations?

BTW: I only buy new.

>>
>>31213512
I don't hunt. I only shoot paper and metal targets for a hobby. I also want to give trap shooting a try.

And I also want something around the house I can load with beanbag ammo or rock salt in case I need someone off my lawn but I don't want to kill them.

I already have plenty of other stuff that's more lethal if it ever comes to that.
>>
>>31213501
I would go with a mossberg 500 then. I would not buy new remington. I got an 870 but only because it was one from the 80s rather than new production. Remingtons quality dropped dramatically when it was taken over by freedom group.

I use an EXPS3-4 w/ magnifier, works like a charm. What distances are you going to be shooting at?
>>
>>31213363
I'm thinking probably around 3-400 yards max, but it's nice to have quick target acquisition for close-range as well.

I'm not terribly shy about dropping some cash as long as it's a quality optic that does what I want.

Are these photos just memes or is there really a problem with obesity in the military? I would think that the Army would do BMI testing and there would be some punishment if you aren't in the healthy range. Is it possible to get dishonorably discharged if you get too overweight?

Mainly memes but I can see it happening, and yes to everything else you said. If your to big you can't even DEP in, and you have to stay a healthy wieght to stay in. If not, depending on branch, you go to extra PT and maybe even diet training or you get kicked the fucked out. I'm proof. I had to lose a good 110 pounds to join, and now I'm on FEP (read: mandatory PT 3 times a week that people struggle with and try the hardest to skate from) becuase i was borderline since I gained a good 20 pounds. Failing a PRT can do that to you aswell. Pic related.

The big thing is it's dependant on your rate and your schedule. I know for a fact on days I work I miss a good bit of sleep since I went to cardio and wieght training 5 or 6 days a week. Working a shit ton of hours with 4 hours of sleep vs getting 7 to some people push it over the line when it comes to working out. Also our base PT's like twice a month so your health and eating is all on you to manage.

I've heard mixed things about people on ships and how they stay fit but they manage. Overseas I bet they workout a good bit to just to stay sane.
>>
>>31213279
Dishonorably discharged? No fucking way. But they would discharge you in some way if they can't make a functioning soldier out of you, which would include being too fat.
>>
>>31213453
Medical discharge.

My bro fucked up his back and knees.
Not bad enough to get the boot but bad enough that PT was a nightmare.

So over the course of two years he got fat. They gave him a medical.

He's 6'5 though so he looked normal.

In a SHTF scenario would a full auto rifle really make a difference over a semi auto?
141 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
>>31213218

A full auto rifle would be a waste in SHTF. Full auto should be reserved for conflicts where a steady supply of ammunition is available.

Any threat you have in SHTF will be neutralized with a semi-automatic firearm. You lose massive amount of accuracy and ammunition for very little payoff time-wise in the grand scheme of things.
>>
>>31213218
Semi auto is better for SHTF, you need to conserve ammunition at that point. Full auto is only really good for suppression purposes, when you're facing off against an enemy squad and you have plentiful ammunition.
>>
>>31213218
This guy, >>31213249 is mostly right.

The only exception I'd be okay switching that fun switch on is during a room clear situation when you're being forced inside from extreme weather/bandits/the military and you just need a fast firing weapon to get through the possible hoarde of zombies/massive amounts of people in the rooms or entire building if you have to go through it all.

Or when you're not by yourself and you need a tactical retrograde.

Maybe be honest with yourself that you're playing with toys guns in the woods and don't need gen3+ fusion goggles. Gen1 is more than sufficient for airshit and can be had for 300 or less. As for thermal, torrey pines viewers are on sale atm, ~500 if you shop around.

Two days ago, I lost a duck to turtles (yes, TURTLES!!) in my pond. Last night, I found a 6 foot snake in the hen house, which I dispatched with an axe (although not before it struck at me twice).

So, I'm finally ready to buy a varmint gun like my wife has been begging me for the past 5 years.

I'm an ex-Marine weapons platoon sgt who fired high expert with his M-14 or M-16 at the rifle range four years straight, so I know about guns and how to handle them. However, I've never owned a weapon as a civilian so know little about civilian weaponry, and I doubt they will let me rustle up and M-14.

So here I am for advice. What's a good all-purpose rifle for varmints? I need one for snakes, coons, possums, and turtles, maybe a coyote. We have bobcats around here but they don't tend to come up close enough to the house to worry about.

I don't need one for home protection, since that is not something I tend to worry about. Just a good, all 'round varmint killer.

Types of guns would be good (22, shotgun, etc), but brands would be nice to know about as well. I figure some may be more reliable or accurate than others.

So, what's your choice of weapons when it comes to killing critters? The picture is one I got from google

Ruger 10/22 is a pretty good choice
>>
>>31213096

Anything in .223 and a varmint bullet. Get a bog standard AR if you also want a fun gun, but otherwise any bolt action with a barrel under 22" would be handy.
>>
>Varmint rifle

the AR15 its the answer, you're already familiar with it and you can build it if you want to save some money or you can buy a S&W MP 15

What rimfires do you people use?
I have a CZ 452 in .22LR with the longest barrel available. Using a cheapo Bushnell 3-9x42, A-Tec CMM-4 Rimfire can, Harris 9-13" w swivel and a monopod I got discounted. Usually use a bean bag though since monopods turned out to be overrated as shit.

Easy to hit a 1' by 1' gong at 200 yards too. Great gun.
Paid 300 bucks for the rifle w/ scope, 60 for the suppressor, 130 for the bipod and about 90 for the monopod.
Goes great with CCI Standard and Norma #2 though best groups have been with Eley Sub HP.
