Inflation combined with exchange rates, bitch. Even if Norinco could sell here they would be 2X-3X more expensive at least

Someone explain this whole ".22 shortage" thing to me?
Every time I look on armslist near me, or even go to walmart there is ALWAYS .22 and LOTS of it
is it just a thing in the south or something?
Depends on the brand you're looking for and where you live. Impossible to find federal for example. Before the election ended this year I would often go to pick up ammo and they had everything but .22 or they had two boxes left. The only reason they had that much is because they had a daily .22 quota of 300 rounds per person.
But it's not nearly as bad as it was a year and a half ago.
>>32185117
The shortage stopped like a year ago...
When Obama got elected, everyone was freaking out because fudds were spreading myths amongst each other that Obama was going to take away everyone's guns etc, etc. You know the shtick. Sandy Hook just made things worse because everyone was convinced that an Assault Weapon Ban 2.0 was going to happen. Anyway, one bit of fuddlore that spread like wild fire was the the gubment was goin' to pass a tax on all ammo, by the bullet. Some were saying it would be as high as 10 cents per round. It was pure fuddlore, but people ate it up and soon enough everything but birdshot was hard to find on store shelves. 22lr was of particular interest to hoarders because it was a cheap round that would see the highest price hike by this imaginary tax. Then, people started hoarding it simply because it was hard to find. Then there were those who hoarded it to resell it for a profit. The increased demand lead to higher prices, which in turn led to increased demand out of fear of increasing prices which led to higher prices. The height of this was 2012-2013. It's not really a problem anymore.
Found this in the river, is it too far gone to identify?

I'm not 100% sure but that style of cylinder, with the relief cuts in the center and not extending all the way to the end of the cylinder tend to be european. The only gun I can remember that has a cylinder like that is the 1895 Nagant revolver but that isn't what right. If I had to guess though it would have to be a late 19tg century European revolver of some sort, unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about those.
>>32185035
its a Belgian nagant revolver

In a way, my decision to join the Navy was caused by my Dad handing me Red Storm Rising at the age of 12. Other than that, Bernard Fall's books are invaluable if you are interested in the Viet Nam war.

The Survivalist by Jerry Ahern. It's a great series.
Historical...
Pretty much anything on the subject from the Metropolitan Museum of Art is likely to be worth your time and money.
More people having read Alan William's "The Sword and the Crucible" would be a good thing. Would make for a much more hostile environment for a good few myths. Perhaps a bit excessively focused on slag at times? Not to a severe degree at least.
The Knight and the Blast Furnace does a similar job, but for armour. Page upon page of raw data that you'll probably skip unless you specifically need that data for something. The rest is a very good read though.

Oakeshott's work has certainly been influential, and he was a quite entertaining writer as well. Some bits are getting a bit dated by now (you'll find few who agree on his definition of a flamberge, and I'm not buying his rapier either), but he still provides a good intro and oversight. "The Archaeology of Weapons" gets you from bronze to late middle ages, where "European Weapons and Armour" takes over and by and large gets you through the 17th century, with some later bits. His famous typology for the medieval, double edged, mostly cruciform sword is laid out in "The Sword in the Age of Chivalry" and "Records of the Medieval Sword", the former being the bulk of the text, the latter being a bunch of swords grouped by blade types.
"Armour of the English Knight 1400-1450" by Tobias Capwell is a wonderful work that takes a reasonably narrow field (what it says on the tin) and goes really, really in depth.
/K/an any of you tell me anything about this thing??

Im trying, but the photo sizes are too big.
OK so I got a question /k/ fags.
Why the fuck do shotgun shell sizes go "backwards" i.e 28 is very weak while 12 is very strong?
I used to think that gauge was the diameter of the pellets so smaller gauge=more pellets= a more powerful shot, but apparently i'm dead wrong. So what gives?
Literally 3 seconds in google

>>32184449
That explanation is absolutely terrible and possibly written for particle physicists, explain in normie's terms please.
>>32184490
>12 gauge = 12 balls of lead of that size = one pound
>20 gauge = 20 balls of lead of that size = one pound

Fucking poorfag here looking for buy a hunting rifle. I've owned other shit before, but I'm looking for something cheap and reliable. I found a local shop selling a Remington M770 for $270. I'm wondering if I could find something for cheaper. It's a reliable name but I'm wondering if I should get it chambered in .243, .308, or 30-06?
Find a cheap savage with an accutrigger.
