I appreciate guns with old world craftsmanship:
forged steel polished and blued,
walnut stocks oiled and checkered,
the kind of smooth trigger and action that only comes from hand fitting,
and classic ergonomics.
There's plenty of pistols, revolvers, shotguns, lever actions, bolt actions, even battle rifles and submachine guns that have that, but what about assault rifles?
It seems like every assault rifle was designed around cutting costs as much as possible with stamped steel, aluminum, and plastic.
The German Sturmgewehrs were stylish, but even they were never designed to last longer than the end of the war.
Is there anything I'm overlooking? Can any assault rifle compete with a Mauser or Schmidt-Rubin for craftsmanship?

Hey /k/, I have a few question about joining the military, and about military intelligence.
I was thinking of doing a program like ROTC to get through my bachelors degree, then going full time in the army/marines. Would I retain my rank if I were to do this? How would I go about doing this?
What does Military intelligence actually do? Is pic related accurate? They sound cool, but that isnt much to make a decision on, and if it's actually worth while, what's a good path to take to get there?
Also- I want combat, which I'm guessing M.I. doesn't have a lot of. I also like the idea of flying a helicopter or operating a tank, or doing special forces. Even being a combat engineer appeals to me somewhat. I dont know a lot about all this, so maybe someone on here can help me out. Thank you in advance.
