Ignoring the lazily colored hair (which ruins it a little) is this a good drawing? Give me the harshest criticism you can give.

It is a good start. Keep shading in different values to make your darks darker and erase to make your lights lighter.
I'm an oil painter from the midwest struggling to sell my work. Almost broke, despite working my ass off on multiple paintings, shopping my work around the community, promoting my website, stocking my booth at local gallery with affordable prints of my work, promoting online, etc etc. Had success and sold a dozen or so originals a couple years ago but now cannot find anyone to buy anything despite being told by everyone that my work is great. Feel happy, satisfied and challenged by my work, but am at the point where I will soon be out of money and will not be able to continue. Fairly desperate for any sales at this point.
Is that one of your paintings? Do you in general tend to paint game art and shit? That might be your problem
Nah, that is only 1 of two video game themed paintings I've done
Here is my website: www.calebpowelloilpaintings.com
Okay seriously, how long does it take and how do I get this good? I've been in college for 1 and half years and I'm taking a bunch of art classes. My art is a lot better than it was in High School but it's nowhere as good as Kyle. His anatomy and coloring are fantastic but I can't even come close, how long does it take to get this good?
Kyle has been drawing for years.
Post your work.

Probably like, two or three weeks, tops.

People like you are pathetic.
>want to draw naked people doing dirty things
>don't want people to look and find out
What should I do in this situation? I don't have a tablet, otherwise I'd just draw em digitally without worrying about anyone finding out
porn is good source material
No I mean how should I draw naked people without anyone finding out? I don't want anyone to look into my sketchbook and see dirty drawings
>>2919593
Just leave out the tee tees and wee wees from your drawrings
Ive been looking through old sketchbooks trying to motivate myself to draw and noticed all the drawings I made with pencil were smudged and faded(its really shitty paper)
How do I keep this from happening? I though about taking a wax candle and rubbing it over drawings once I am done but not sure if its a 100% fix
Ive also been told that olive oil hairspray can keep graphite from smudging and fading but i don't want oily pages.
>>2919252
Just buy a setting spray
>>2919252
Use this at your favor and say its your style and the fading is proposital
Adaptabilty is a blessing
>>2919252
Bound sketchbooks are better for graphite because the pages can rub against each other easily
When you guys draw do you touch the paper for steadiness or does your hand float? Also which is better in the end?
>hand not touching paper
Wtf is this possible? How would you have any control?
I do both depending on the angle of my canvas and the material I'm working with.
It is better not to touch in my opinion, when my hand touches the paper I tend to draw with my wrist and fingers and less with my arm.
Also smudging could be avoided by not touching.

>touching the paper
>the paper

How are one-minute poses supposed to teach me anything?
How am I supposed to capture shit?
What book is this

It's from this, enjoy.
It's mostly for gesture warmup and trying to see how much you can capture in such a short amount of time (line of action, flow, basic shapes, maybe some form construction - depending on how fast you work)
But I'm assuming you ask that question becasue you're not able to, meaning you should slow down and take as much time as you need. Do plenty of gestures slowly (don't set any timers) and build up that speed.
So, this isn't my work but we recently moved into a new house and this painting was hanging up, does anyone know the name of it?
Edit, same guy here, it appears to be made by someone by the name of G.Grey, that is our guess though, we can't make their handwriting out.
Probably done my some local artist, it doesn't worth much if that is what you want to know
I used to be so confident in starting an art career, but now I am scared to death of starting because I fear failure so much.
I don't want to be one of those irrelevant fucks who are mired for years and years with almost no one knowing who they are.

Just do it.
Not to sound too optimistic but hey at least you would of tried right? Me I want to make a cartoon and perhaps a video game. If I even had to skill to do so I know it'll fade into the internet with no one watching but I'm still gonna do it. Sooo you know it JUST DO IT fail. Try again fail try again fail and maybe one day you'll make it or hey maybe you'll die in old age and become really famous leaving a legacy just do it
What do you think about art books and which ones do you own or think are the most helpful?
Quite a few. That one included.
I would recommend Animation 1 by Preston Blair. Gets straight to the point.
If you want more of the theory and concept of art I would suggest The Art Spirit by Robert Henri.
Really enjoyed the Disney segment that pulled some points from the book when it came to art.

What are some good resources for designing mechs?
Right now all I have is a basic understanding of vehicle architectures, but I'm still at a loss on how to remix all of this into shit like Gundam.
Google for:
mechanical joints
sheet metal design
HVAC
sports car exhaust
and similar. Think for a bit what are the characteristic features of the products you will see.
I'll tell you on the basis of pic related case for computer power supply:
- everything based on rectangle/box shape
- grooves and holes are repeating
- concentricity and order
- consistency: bending is everywhere the same with the same radius
- lots of holes for screws
Same with joints, keep them simple looking mechanisms.
Now, if you want to actually make a Gundam, it is even easier - it's just a guy in helmet with a bunch of cardboard boxes, sometimes cut in half to have pointy triangles.
Instead of trying to go with organic shapes, just draw everything with boxes and if it is too blocky for you, cut them in half so you will have some pointy triangle.

Cute as fuck, sauce?
What do you have to do to draw something as good as this
>>2918399
If you think that's good then you are a hopeless case
>As good as this
First of all I'd recommend to look up what real artwork looks like
PS: you have a shit taste OP
