What happened to art being taken seriously in western education? All my primary and secondary education, the art classes I took, totaled up to giving me jack shit for actual skills. While math and reading were up to par and engaging, it felt like everything stopped and I was thrown in daycare in the middle of the school day to do craft projects. Why could my teachers have actually given me some actual skills instead of wasting my time? Even if nobody else uses what they learned, they would still help the one person who actually cared.

add on that all the bad habits this time of ''art education'' gave, which took me YEARS just to unlearn

I started drawing seriously 5 years ago, but just this year I started actually feeling I am improving, while in the first 4 it was all ''wait, this exercises is not good? then why did I waste 3 months on it? wait, you are not suppose to do it this way? then why have I been tough like this in school?''

It's not education fault. It's you being retarded. Another UStard who can't even google good art schools in his own country.

According to some pros in the industry, around the 50's the abstract scene started gaining a lot of ground and people began to forget about hardcore fundamentals, steering more towards expression, now hi-jacked by modern liberals and their need for safe spaces, most art schools teachers don't even know Perspective themselves beyond ''All lines recede to a VP'' which is hardly scrapping the surface.

If you want a good school, look for one ran by ex-industry or current pros. Like Art Center, Gnmon, FZD...etc

http://cresk.nl/a-brief-and-selective-history-of-monograms

What do you think about monograms as signing artwork?

And what if my monogram is same as some other artists? Is that a problem? It's not an elaborate sigil but rather two initials forming the same symbol.

Very nice viewpoint, although the hands could have been in better positions. They come off as indistinct lumps to my eye...but more detail might fix that.

There's such a thing as digital sculpting?

You learn something new every day.

A good (if frustrating and messy) way to start out is papier mache over a wire armature. It takes long enough that you really have to think about what you're doing. It'll almost always come out looking kind of shitty, but that's okay. Focus on what you learned about shape along the way.

After papier mache, or if you want to skip papier mache altogether, give polymer clay a go. Again, a wire armature and tin foil to bulk your shapes out help a lot before you start putting clay on. This way your work doesn't become too heavy, and you don't use too much clay making shapes that you could have filled out with scrunched up tin foil.

After you get those down, there's this fancy stuff you melt in a pot and then apply slowly, but I've forgotten what it's called.

Also, sculpture can lead you into sewing toys and making mounts for taxidermied animals.

Avoid real clay that you have to fire to get the final example because you've actually got to be pretty good to make anything decent, and there are weird rules like leaving air holes, and you need to have a kiln on hand, and the whole thing is messy.

Also, sculpting in stone with a chisel and a hammer is awesome, but start with soft wood first. You won't skin your knuckles nearly as much.

Hello, its me dave rapoza. Post your work and I will do some paint overs and see what can be improved.

real life reference, preferably things in front of you and not pictures
look at a body
never let your pencil off the paper when you do it
don't construct the body with shapes
let the line form the body

Yes, it's just called photography with a filter added. It's not an art style worthy of a special name.

Surzipin (n,adj) - Frustration that occurs with sharpening a unrelenting, constantly breaking pencil.
Can also identify said pencil as a Surzipin pencil.

"Fuck! Roe has struck again."

Skrif (n) - childish or unproductive art materials (ie crayons or dollar store paints) contrast to what any art professional would work with.
"I realise a real artist can work with anything, but c'mon i'm not working with that skrif."

I've done several ocean paintings...I don't really think about anything so much as I try to get the reflection of light on the waves to look correct
