If the current tendency of humanity is the disintegration of the family as the main and primary nucleus of society what would be our best option? Heading towards it or trying to recover the values of the family? What would be the best alternative to the family?

most people go all out on their job if they dont have a family, but human links are not really considered
most of times they will stay alone, and that becomes the primary nucleus

How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a
Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten
Spot in the Caribbean by providence, impoverished, in squalor
Grow up to be a hero and an an anaconda?

The ten-foot long Founding Father without a father
Slithered a lot farther by working a lot harder
By being a lot smarter
By being a self-starter
By fourteen feet, he's as long as 10 garters

And every day while snakes were being slaughtered and carted
Away across to the trash, he struggled and kept his guard up
Inside, he was longing for something to be a part of
The brother was ready to constricting, strangle, and swallow

Then a transformation came, and devastation reigned
Our man saw transformed, rebirth,
He's now a slender creature of significant girth
Put a pencil to his temple, connected it to his brain
And he wrote his first refrain, a testament to his pain
Then his arms fell off and he was long as a train

Well, the word got around, they said, “This shit is insane, man”
Took up a collection just to get him unstuck from a sewer main
“Get your education, don’t forget from whence you came, and
The world's gonna know your name. What’s your name, man?”
My name is Anaconda Hamilton
And there’s a million things I haven’t done
But just you wait, just you wait...

Because they turned it into a business. Their writings became popular because they pandered to the mass market of the reading public.

I'd say a large part of it was because they had a very good economy. You can't have a large intellectual class without excess production of food and other necessities.

And can this please be a serious thread? I'm not in /b/, though all they post about is porn, which is personally think is visually disgusting.

So, just like post stuff about the Vietnam war here, I guess.

I'll start. What do you guys think about most of the soldiers who caught injecting meth into their bloodstream, due to the stress involved in the war. BTW, 90% of them dropped their addiction once they "evacuated" Vietnam.

Is there any history on where the practice of silent reading began? My understanding is that most people during antiquity had to read out loud in order to process text.

The only relevant example I can find is that Alexander the Great reportedly used to read out loud as a child but by the time he was a full grown adult he had managed to suppress the reflex and could read in silence.

tl;dr when did people start reading silently?

something funny here?
>>
The earliest 100% concrete example is of St. Ambrose via St. Augustine.

https://web.stanford.edu/class/history34q/readings/Manguel/Silent_Readers.html

There are some mentions alluding to Greeks doing the same, meaning it might have been done at the time, but nothing quite as bulletproof.

So basically any race of people can be albino since it is simply a genetic mutation in melanin production(though it is likely more common in people living in cold climates). How were albinos received culturally considering extremely fair skin in many part of the world was considered high class/more desirable. Were they barely allowed outside in a world with no sunscreen or sunglasses?

For the record, I think most severe albinos look pretty creepy. It's like they have no eyebrows because they are so light.

huh?
Also I meant historically btw.
>>
>>2919441
The annoying thing about albinism's definition is for people of color any group that deviates is merely a mutation rather than being percieved as natural deviation.

Cambodians, West Africans, Papuans, South Africans etc... Are all seen as pigment "freaks" even thought blondism in Europeans doesn't have that attachments.

By this I don't mean those completely lacking pigment but those with "blonde skin" and blonde hair with green or grey eyes.

Albinism in whites varied, in the new world Albinos were perceived as being the result of race mixture.

Why do the humanities deny that the genetic makeup of a population plays an important (if not THE most important) role in determining the kind of society that population can produce? Why do they deny the theory of evolution when it comes to humans?

Is it because of Marxism?
165 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
>>2919354
Yes it's Marxism and cowardice. They Either want terrible things to happen or think they are preventing a greater evil. The reality is that the truth is never evil, and denying the truth only galvanizes people into the pride filled supremacism they are trying to avoid.
>>
>>2919354
This sounds like a question for /sci/
>>
>>2919360
Why? This is the humanities board. The study of human genetics is actually thriving in the scientific community right now.

I don't believe they have done any genetic testing on the oldest mummies yet, probably because it's harder for extremely old DNA (it's possible to do it on fragmentary DNA, but it's a lot of work) they prefer to get data from a lot of relatively recent specimens.
