Why do modern leftists like to distinguish between "private property" and "personal property" in recent discourses. What is the philosophical or historical basis for the distinction between the two forms of property and is there any legitimacy to such a distinction? Isn't it all just private property?

Is an iMac private property or personal property? Is a car personal property? Why or why not?

>>
Can you cite some examples of leftists making this distinction?
>>

I can't find it right now but a lot of Occupy protesters made that argument in defense of their Apple products.

of course not, it was a fucking famine. is ethiopia a fucking genocide by us, because we don't give them enough food for all of them to survive?

That's controversial because since most academics are leftists who would love to destroy their own independent landowner class (just see how much hate American intellectuals can spew against Southerh Whites) they absolute love the concept of dekulakization, so the end result of this policy being the death of millions of people is very uncomfortable for them to defend. They either ignore it hoping it will go away or they try to invent bullshit reasons to excuse Stalin (that was popular in the 1980s, see the works of Sheila Fitzpatrick, but then the Soviet Union fell, the archives were opened and they were left discredited).

So no, the holodomor is not considered a genocide by the intelligentsia, some countries consider based on political reasons but that's not enough. In 100 years no one will remember the Holodomor because only things that make the left stand in good light are worth remembering by intellectuals and since they will want to kill the kulaks again before the end of the century (see Salon's obsession with anti-racism and anti-white bigotry) they will have to pretend the last time they tried it never happened and it never went wrong.

Perhaps one of the most interesting and mysterious areas of the world. Why is it, that most historical events that are of incredible importance to the west took place there? And why is it, that this once so flourishing land has now become diseased with war and conflicts?

Don't know what that means

>Perhaps one of the most interesting and mysterious areas of the world.
Not really. Thankfully, European archaeologist uncovered a shit ton of "lost" history

>And why is it, that this once so flourishing land has now become diseased with war and conflicts?
Lots of reasons, and yes, Islam is one of them

Any questions?

>Why is it, that most historical events that are of incredible importance to the west took place there?

I know it's a meme, but it really is a "crossroads of culture" hence its importance (and flashpoint status).

>And why is it, that this once so flourishing land has now become diseased with war and conflicts?

Shit got real nasty after the breakup of the Ottoman Empire and basically everyone involved is to blame in some measure

I'm not going to say it's the Jews buuut... it's totally Israel's foreign policy to destabilize the entire region at all costs, with support from many other states.

What could you tell me about falchions? No one ever talks about them I wasn't even aware they existed until recently they seem like what an Ork would use. Were they as damaging as they look?

Popular. Good cutting swords.

There's really not much to say.
>>
>>503778
A mixture of an axe and an arming sword, the falchion was great at parting rings of chainmail. Fell out of use once plate started to appear because you cannot cut plate. Not that useful against enemies not wearing chainmail because of the lack of an effective point but if you were hit with it on bare skin...well, you don't want to know.

Aquinas would disagree

>It is unlawful to hold that any false assertion is contained either in the Gospel or in any canonical Scripture, or that the writers thereof have told untruths, because faith would be deprived of its certitude which is based on the authority of Holy Writ. That the words of certain people are variously reported in the Gospel and other sacred writings does not constitute a lie. Hence Augustine says (De Consens. Evang. ii): "He that has the wit to understand that in order to know the truth it is necessary to get at the sense, will conclude that he must not be the least troubled, no matter by what words that sense is expressed." Hence it is evident, as he adds (De Consens. Evang. ii), that "we must not judge that someone is lying, if several persons fail to describe in the same way and in the same words a thing which they remember to have seen or heard."

>why live?
I'm not memeing here, I'm genuinely depressed about this. there are no adventures left in the world. no "blank spaces on the map" as Conrad put it. no untamed lands or untamed people. no place where american television is not broadcast. the age of sail is over. there are no more colonies. we have left the genteel age of pith helmets and heroes. why live? for a domestic life? sure you can go to other places as a tourist, but everyone's wearing the same clothes, emulating American culture, every city is full of glass cages, everything looks more or less the same.

Why live?

Since you seem so addicted to new things you might as well deal with science taking over the jigsaw puzzle of life by starting to preach totally new, never before thought of values and morals, just like everyone else has started to do.

The intellect is the only frontier now, no sidestepping the problem with treks or voyages or risking life.

Try to become sexually attracted to something new and unique like cactus or worms or broken glass and tell people about your discovery, they will look up to you for it, I promise.

(Note: I am talking about NON-AMERICAN countries where you can major in Medicine, Dentistry, etc as an UNDERGRADUATE)

Some high school students who got extremely good grades in their finals (i.e. good enough for Medicine in non-American countries) decide to major in humanity programs History, Anthropology, etc. Why would they pick that?

It's a waste of their good marks to pick these programs which are easy to get into. Jobs related to these majors are hard to get. The world is not the same as a century ago where only a small proportion if the population can go to university so any university student can find a decent job after graduation. Sure, some graduates will get a well-paid, stable job, but the chances are that will not be you.

I guess you can also teach with a humanities degree, but teaching has its own terrible aspects where you have to deal with brats who don't care about their education. Really, every job has its own terrible aspects and work is not meant to be fun.

Getting into postgraduate Law is also competitive, risky, and a waste of time when these high school kids can just pick Law straight out of high school.

These people are just being picky. Really, all jobs become boring over time. Just memorise some shit at uni and find a well-paid, stable job afterwards. Work is not meant to be fun and it is more important that you can pay the bills in the future.

How did the cult of Rastafarianism actually start? How did the ball get rolling for this meme?
68 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
The very basics was, Ra-stafari inherited the throne of ethopia or some shit was the only nation not to be colonized, first christian nation and a good leader. So they saw him as a kind of second coming, someone who was gonna bring all africans back to africa. The people who believed it were called rastafarians. I'm more interested in the guy due to ww2 politics but thats a starting point.

Surely it's the other way round. Civil law is less esoteric than common law and more accessible, so laypeople engage a lawyer less often.

Not that I support civil law. Common law masterrace here.

When will the meme of "America saved the world and defeated the Nazis" end?
165 posts and 32 images submitted.
>>
Soon as books like "Bloodlands" are becoming more popular. It's just old Cold War legend. Actually it's more like an evolution. First the USA didn't care at all. Then when they entered WWII the USSR (one of the countries that started the war while allied with Hitler) was on the side of the west. Hollywood responded with pathetic movies praising Uncle Joe and the Soviet Union (Gregory Peck's first acting role was in one of such movies).
Of course then the Cold War happened and suddenly "we've always been at war with Eastasia" only gradually the relations between the countries were improving but there was still one pretty awkward thing and it was something that wikipedia calls "western betrayal" although I've never seen this term called like that anywhere else. Anyway the Soviets were just as bad if not worse than the Germans but they were also American allies. This continues to be relly awkward especially since Russians themselves believe in lies their government tells them about WWII. As an effect the Americans prefered a safe version of history where there's place for D-Day, Pacific theatre, maybe something involving their British allies and of course Auschwitz but nothing else. Let's hope this is about to change.
