Let's talk about norse civilization
>no military feats
>no universities
>no philosophers
>no great works of art (sagas were written AFTER viking age)
>no beautiful architecture
wow what a great pagan nation Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Chinese could really learn a lot from them just look at this masterfully builded hut
I'm in awe.
This is going to be a great thread with impartial, educated discussion.
>>486448
But anon, don't you want to btfo /pol/ by comparing Nord huts to Africans?
>>486443
Who gives a shit honestly, now we're on top and you shitholes with muh history and muh houses are indeed shitholes.
Reminder that religion was BTFO by Russel's Teapot, and Betrand Russel in general
> The whole conception of God is a conception derived from the ancient Oriental despotisms. It is a conception quite unworthy of free men. When you hear people in church debasing themselves and saying that they are miserable sinners, and all the rest of it, it seems contemptible and not worthy of self-respecting human beings.
>here are a great many ways in which, at the present moment, the church, by its insistence upon what it chooses to call morality, inflicts upon all sorts of people undeserved and unnecessary suffering. And of course, as we know, it is in its major part an opponent still of progress and improvement in all the ways that diminish suffering in the world, because it has chosen to label as morality a certain narrow set of rules of conduct which have nothing to do with human happiness; and when you say that this or that ought to be done because it would make for human happiness, they think that has nothing to do with the matter at all. "What has human happiness to do with morals? The object of morals is not to make people happy."
>Love as a relation between men and women was ruined by the desire to make sure of the legitimacy of children.
>The psychology of adultery has been falsified by conventional morals, which assume, in monogamous countries, that attraction to one person cannot coexist with a serious affection for another. Everybody knows that this is untrue.
>The desire to understand the world and the desire to reform it are the two great engines of progress without which human society would stand still or retrogre
Religion was never BTFI in the first place. It has always been the refuge of second rate thinkers and their terrible ideas.
The fact that it's now dying (at least the literalist version of it) shows that the last centuries merely slowed down the inevitable collapse
>Neitzsche in a trenchcoat

This is by far the cringiest picture I have ever seen. And I am not religious people.
The addition of a fucking comedian and a shitposting demagogue among a bevy of scientists is cream of the cringe.
Was he the most evil man in history?
>>479471
Not anymore since OP
only to Americans, to my people he is a hero that made Russia great and turned it into a superpower that the world trembles before even today.
>>479471
Maybe not the most evil, that's hard thing to define. There might have been more evil people not wielding as much power as he did.
But as far as might goes, let's put it this way;
Stalin's tendencies for wickedness most likely affected more people living in his world at the same time as him than any other despot before or after him. He was irresponsible with his power in regards to the suffering of others. In the end, it's what caused his pre-mature death.
Mao, Hitler and maybe even Bush are other candidates of course. But Mao, while he killed many, did not do so for the express purpose of murdering. Hitler did not kill as many and Bush just isn't in the same league but he wielded more power.
Bow your head to the Sultan, infidel!

The King of Kings, the great Osman, the ruler of three continents, the one who only bows to Allah himself. His lands are endless. His armies are inexhaustible. His Janisarries are fearless. His guns are without number. Bow your head to the Sultan! Or face the full strength of the one true faith.
>Be WASP American
>Study Ottomans
>Can't stand how big of pussies ISIS are compared with the Ottomans
>Feel nostalgic for a time 450+ years before I existed, when the West faced the real existential threat of a united Islamic front
Why aren't the Turks showing their dominance in the Levant and Iraq? Why doesn't the most modernized, historically significant Muslim state come out and crush these pretenders?
What say the Euros? Would you support a militarized Turkey? Would you support the Anatolians exerting more influence in the mid East?
Also post pictures of Ottoman stuff. Artwork, weapons, armor, architecture.
Ottoman music as well. The Ottoman marching band was one of the most important tools of the Sultan. With his awesome band and his mighty artillery, he could reduce the enemy defenses to the rubble.

Often times you will mention a Western male (usually white) bringing up a woman's tallness as her main point of beauty, and emphasizing the attraction of her slim figure (regardless of actual shape or composition) as her main point. When I look at old standards of beauty in Europe for centuries it was usually more shapely or bigger women. Why and how did it change?
Pic related. Though this is the late Victorian/Edwardian standard that emphasized the curves more than usual, but it still shows that curvy shapes in general we preferred even up to the 20's where erotica featured heftier or shapelier women.
I see the changes in the 70's but I'm not sure why. A lot of modern European men are repulsed by these bodies from the 50's and 60's glamor girls or not as interested.
>>479209
>tall skinny women
tall and skinny women shows that they do not need to store food, therefore they shows that they have the means to eat whenever they want, contrary to those peasants who are always fat in old age or if they do not work and skinny once they work hard to get food.
now, beauty and wealth are connected, with beauty attracting wealth and wealth attracting beauty. there fore, you have more beautiful women who are thin.
>>479228
That being said, working class beauty standards and middle/upper class standards have always been different. Can we really say all that has changed for the majority of women, especially when we get into non white communities where curves are still numero uno?
>>479303
>>479228
Women have always been more relatively fatter and less toned than men are. For some reason the media is really pushing thin woman-fat man married couples a lot. I'm not sure if this is worse than the past because it puts more pressure on the girl and says its okay for a guy to be a lazy slob and an idiot because "hey, women are better and smarter" hmm..
at least in the past women and men were both expected to look good ,and it was acknowledged women were plumper/weaker, not more athletic and taller like the media has been confusing us for the past 30-40 years
"
Brothers and sisters, I am here to tell you that I charge the white man. I charge the white man with being the greatest murderer on earth. I charge the white man with being the greatest kidnapper on earth. There is no place in this world that this man can go and say he created peace and harmony. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s created havoc. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s created destruction.
So I charge him. I charge him with being the greates kidnapper on this earth! I charge him with being the greatest murderer on this earth! I charge him with being the greatest robber and enslaver on this earth! I charge the white man with being the greatest swine-eater on this earth. The greatest drunkard on this earth! He can’t deny the charges! You can’t deny the charges! We’re the living proof *of* those charges! You and I are the proof.
You’re not an American, you are the victim of America. You didn’t have a choice coming over here. He didn’t say, “Black man, black woman, come on over and help me build America”. He said, “Nigger, get down in the bottom of that boat and I’m taking you over there to help me build America”. Being born here does not make you an American. I am not an American, you are not an American. You are one of the 22 million black people who are the *victims* of America.
You and I, we’ve never see any democracy. We didn’t see any… democracy on the-the cotton fields of Georgia, wasn’t no democracy down there. We didn’t see any democracy. We didn’t see any democracy on the streets of Harlem or on the streets of Brooklyn or on the streets of Detroit or Chicago. Ain’t no democracy down there. No, we’ve never seem democracy! All we’ve seen is hypocrisy! We don’t see any American Dream. We’ve experienced only the American Nightmare!"

Where is the reverence *my* cause deserves to be paid?
>>486376
Yeah Malcolm X was pretty dope, desu
>>486376
And now American blacks have experienced the exact same legal rights and even a preferable status by institutions for decades.
Yet the problems seem to persist.
Is quoting Malcom X truly relevant in modern society? Could he honestly hold those same views in 2015?
Why were Bosnia and Albania so effectively converted to Islam while the rest of the balkan countries conquered by the Ottomans weren't?

Your mistake is taking peoples' will as an object and not a subject. Bosnians and Albanians were -not- converted to Islam: They converted to Islam

>Germanic tribes had an empire in north africa
yea, a little piece if land that can only fit like 12 people
>>469393
the vikings were one of the most feared warriors in their time, roman and arab scholars praised their tactics, weaponry, and heart. It took the combined forces of the brits, the french, and the italians to stop them
If you're under the impression of germanic tribes as "white people" having a,

in north Africa, you're sorely mistaken.
Was this genocide even avoidable? The two continents were going to meet at some point. Would it have been better or worse for the Native Americans if the Asians had landed on the west coast?
>>485099
Native americans having a shitty immune system does not constitute a genocide.
>the biggest genocide in human history didn't occur in Nazi Germany
I'm glad that they are at least aware of how blown out of proportion that genocide actually is
The only way to avoid it would have been if the encounter with other continents didn't happen until modern vaccines were developed. And even then, I am fairly sure nobody who met the Azteks would have just let them be.
Fill me in on why this book is shit /his/
A cookie cutter anti-euro opinion piece. With that being said it really isn't "Shit" but rather a book no one with an already defined history knowledge should bat an eye to.I wouldn't recommend it regardless.
>>484959
I've heard arguments that it's pro-euro. Basically reducing colonialism to a deterministic process instead of a violent conquest
>>484991
Not completely, but it is referenced to. But it's essentially an anti-euro bias. Especially when talking about "The Old World."
“Not until the beginning of the 20th century did Europe's urban populations finally become self-sustaining: before then, constant immigration of healthy peasants from the countryside was necessary to make up for the constant deaths of city dwellers from crowd diseases.”
Does anyone else find it so strange that women (~half the population at any given time) have such a small role in a non-feminist reading of history? I don't mean to sound like an SJW or something, but it borders on the unnatural
Of course maybe it's because we focus too much on Great Men, but even from a broader perspective, you don't get many females. Can anyone hazard a guess as to why this is the case?
>>483410
Because women weren't pressured to pursue greatness. There weren't any expectations for women throughout history to achieve something big. All such pressures must come from within, and therefore any female that has attained greatness are all excellent, such as Noether and Mirzakhani.
Feminism thus must encourage women to introspect such that they can realize and actualize their own greatness, instead of extrospect and blame the lack of female representation in industry on the strawman that is patriarchy.
Historically, women haven't exactly had the most praiseworthy of roles in society. Until the development of modern Western civilizations, women have generally been viewed as child-bearers and housekeepers.
Historically, women haven't exactly had the most praiseworthy of roles in society. Until the development of modern Western civilizations, women have generally been viewed as child-bearers and housekeepers. There shouldn't be any excuse going forward.

Is the Irish famine considered a genocide?
To my understanding only the irish call it a genocide. Everyone else calls it the irish potato famine.
>>479804
Didn't the British government contine to export food from Ireland through the entirety of the famine?
>>479815
Yes. From what ive read they even had military escorts to make sure starving people wouldnt attack the shipments. Usually when theres a famine in a country they ban exporting food. Of course during the famine no such ban was put because the merchants were being whiny about profits.
