Alright /his/, after a long time being an atheist, I realized that God existing is more logical than God not existing, and God would probably be a personal God, and I also browsed /pol/ a lot back then so I was exposed to deus vult memes, and so I became a Catholic.(I was also raised by a lukewarm Catholic family who were basically universalists, but I dont think that played much of a part in my choosing of the religion)

Now, after about a year, maybe a little more, I find myself questioning the faith. Now, I am not questioning God, just Christianity. This is because I am beginning to look into philosophy, specifically ancient Greek/Roman stoic and cynic philosophy, and I like what I see, It just makes sense and seems more complete than Christianity, but I am conflicted. While I see something special in these philosophies, I also see that Jesus Christ is something special. As CS Lewis describes in "Mere Christianity", due to what Jesus says, there are only two ways to look at him, either a lunatic, or the actual Son of God sent to save us. I don't think Jesus is a lunatic. So, now you see my conflict, and I just need some guidance on which way to go.

Reread the stoics and then the gospel of John. The logos, or word, is a very much greek idea, but also comes to truth in Jesus Christ. Also realize that Christianity makes few claims that a specific ideology is 100% wrong, holding bits of truth. You can see this in the use of aristolean philosophy, especially in the middle ages.

How about as a legend? He could have just been a radical rabbi that people started making tall tales about. Sort of like how most historians think Hercules was a real person but he probably didn't go around telling people he battled Hydras.

>Women are inferior to men in matters of justice, honesty, and conscientiousness. Again, because their reasoning faculty is weak, things clearly visible and real, and belonging to the present, exercise a power over them which is rarely counteracted by abstract thoughts, fixed maxims, or firm resolutions, in general, by regard for the past and future or by consideration for what is absent and remote

>Nature has not destined them, as the weaker sex, to be dependent on strength but on cunning; this is why they are instinctively crafty, and have an ineradicable tendency to lie. Nature has provided woman for her protection and defence with the faculty of dissimulation, and all the power which Nature has given to man in the form of bodily strength and reason has been conferred on woman in this form. Hence, dissimulation is innate in woman and almost as characteristic of the very stupid as of the clever. Accordingly, it is as natural for women to dissemble at every opportunity and they feel in doing so that in a certain measure they are only making use of their rights. Therefore a woman who is perfectly truthful and does not dissemble is perhaps an impossibility. This is why they see through dissimulation in others so easily; therefore it is not advisable to attempt it with them. From the fundamental defect that has been stated, and all that it involves, spring falseness, faithlessness, treachery, ungratefulness, and so on. In a court of justice women are more often found guilty of perjury than men. It is indeed to be generally questioned whether they should be allowed to take an oath at all. From time to time there are repeated cases everywhere of ladies, who want for nothing, secretly pocketing and taking away things from shop counters.

>Neither for music, nor for poetry, nor for fine art have they any real or true sense and susceptibility, and it is mere mockery on their part, in their desire to please, if they affect any such thing.

Hello, /his/.
First, the link:
https://mega.nz/#F!AE5yjIqB!y7Vdxdb5pbNsi2O3zyq9KQ

Another 20 texts, this time centered mostly around Gnosticism, but we've got a few others. I moved all of my Yezidi material, questionable or not, into it's own folder. We're almost up to 4500 texts (4481).

>Beginners
Dictionary of Gnosticism and Esotericism. It's a great starter or generalist reference. Thumbed through it and was impressed enough with the comprehensiveness and neutrality that I figure I should toss it in the beginner's folder.

>Gnosticism
Coptic Gnostic Chrestomathy, which is instruction through literature. Gnosis: Study and Commentary on the Esoteric Tradition of Eastern Orthodoxy. Gnostic Religion in Antiquity, which appears to be a pretty basic intro, more basic than Rudolph's text. Gnosticism and Late Platonism: Themes, Figures, and Texts. Another Seed: Studies in Gnostic Mythology. Astrological Medicine in Gnosticism, Mystery of the Five Seals, Gnostic Initiation Reconsidered, which argues for initiatic mystery traditions inside of the Gnostic emanations. Studies in Gnostic Mythology. The Alphabet in Mandean and Jewish Gnosticism, which has some great contemplative methods and a few prayers intended to tie the body and mental processes to the letters of the Hebrew Alphabet, it draws greatly from Sefer Yetizirah, and could probably be integrated into modern praxis with little or no trouble. And, finally, the Present State of Gnostic Studies, an article that gives an overview of where we are and how far we've come in academic study.

>Kabbalah
Jewish Gnosticism by Scholem. It's in the Kabbalah folder as I imagine GS goes into more Kabbalistic avenues than not, though I can swich folders if I thumb through it and he doesn't do his usual bit of referencing REALLY obscure bits of Kabbalistic thought.

>Psychological Model>Jung
Added “The Gnostic Jung and the Seven Sermons of the Dead”, an analysis of said sermons and their relation to Gnostic thought.

>Samuel Aun Weor
Added his text Revolution of the Dialectic, which delves into the Greek Sacred Psychiatry as reckoned by the academic material in my Euro folder. Both concepts are rooted in Plato: Plat. Rep. 7.533, c&d, and the comment on dialectic's ability to raise the soul through the slime of Orphic myth.

>Yezidi
Yezidism: Its Background, Observances, and Texts. Intro to thought and a goodly chunk of hymns in the second portion of the book. Given the concepts that Cultus Sabbati borrows, I'd be willing to hedge a bet that this is one of the primary sources for their bits of Yezidi thought. That said, most of these ideas could also be ascribed to Kaula, like crystaline time flows and possession by entities, and it might be worthwhile in academia/comparative religion to make a study of Yezidi/Tantra relations as have been done with Kabbalah/Tantra.

>Zoroastrianism
Avesta Eschatology, or how these cats viewed the End of Days. Avesta, Pahlavi, and Ancient Persian Studies. Chattamanavaka Gatha, a very short text. Contradictions and Vile Utterances: Zoroastrian Critique of Judaism. This thing is fuckin' hilarious. Between Gnosticism and the rise of Kabbalah, a Zoroastrian writes a fuckhuge shitpost about how Judaism (and Christianity and Islam) have screwed the pooch. This is an analysis and extracts of that text. Zoroastrian Diaspora Religion, and The Daeva Cult in the Gathas.

Hi Thoth, I would like to know your opinion on Simon's Necronomicon.

I'm going to post two busts of Tutankhamun that were found in his tomb.

As you can see these busts obviously aim for accuracy. The shape of the nose, the arch of the brow, the detail of the ears, and so on, are all realistic and consistent.

My question is: why then doubt that the color of the skin isn't also meant to be accurate? Even the lips are given a different shade.

Why are samurais so cool?
That's objective
>Were their armour and clothing specifically designed to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible or is it just a coincidence?
Somewhat, but not really. The demonic helmets were made to be as scary as possible. The bodypart was designed to protect against the climate and weather too, which is why they wore alot of clothing under the armor.
Japanese didnt have alot of natural iron so most of the armors were made from leather, cloth and even wood, which is why they have that unique look.

Christians and Jews and Muslims believe in miracles. Hindus and Buddhists believe in siddhis.
>Siddhis (Sanskrit and Pali; Devanagari सिद्धि; Tibetan: དངོས་གྲུབ, THL: ngödrup,[web 1] Chinese: 悉地, 成就) are spiritual, paranormal, supernatural, or otherwise magical powers, abilities, and attainments that are the products of spiritual advancement through sādhanās such as meditation and yoga.[1] The term ṛddhi (Pali: iddhi, "psychic powers") is often used interchangeably in Buddhism.
Do you believe in magic? Have you ever experienced it? Have there been any true magicians in history?

Yes. Yes. In history? Popularly known as a magician, not as an illusionist? Maybe a few ones. Jesus, indeed, had siddhis. But I think He was beyond the whole magician thing.

Are there any posters here who don't consider human life innately precious?
55 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
Life isn't really important. All we are is energy established into a "physical" form. When we die, our energy will go else where for other uses.
>>
Honestly, not if they're African, Chinese or Indian
>>
In a manner of speaking.

It's normal for people to consider human lives more valuable than non-human lives, if only as a consequence of genetics and socialization.
Practically speaking, though, life is cheap. People die all the time for stupid as shit reasons. People can be convinced to kill other people very easily, and we're always three missed meals away from that "innate preciousness" vanishing.

Still, yeah, I think we have an in-born as well as social predisposition to consider human life more valuable than other life.

keep in mind that everything else about WWII up to this point is completely the same and events that were to happen independent of D-Day will still happen uninterrupted.
