When did the Old Frankish language disappear from what's now modern France?
>>574313
About as soon as every Frank learned Latin.
Parisian
Where did the idea of fantasy Druids turning into animals come from? As far as I know that wasn't a part of the Celtic beliefs.
>>574263
Not theology, legends:

Druids were monotheists.
Fat, middle aged American women are ruining the memory of those men by making up loads of bullshit.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
So I found the first 3 quotes on Google, but yeah, MLKJ thread?
>some stuff off wiki
At age 12, shortly after his maternal grandmother died, King blamed himself and jumped out of a second story window, but survived.
King was originally skeptical of many of Christianity's claims. At the age of thirteen, he denied thebodily resurrection of JesusduringSunday school. From this point, he stated, "doubts began to spring forth unrelentingly". However, he later concluded that the Bible has "many profound truths which one cannot escape" and decided to enter theseminary.
Quote in pic sounds like Jesus when He said "how do you get rid off Satan with Satan?"
I guess Martin Luther King Jr was influenced by Gandhi as well
Ok one more, I guess he was born Michael Luther King Jr, then later had his named changed.
And unfortunately like most of the world's greatest people to come on Earth and teach outstanding ethics of peace, was assassinated.
So where the guals/germanics/visigoths really their own little empire that always hated Rome until they got revenge or were the basically just ooga booga where the Mediterranean women at.
>>574129
>ooga booga where the Mediterranean women at
According to Caesar and Tacitus this.
>>574129
they had their own complex society if that's what you mean. Most of our direct information on the Gauls come from Caesar's account, which we can wasn't the most factual considering he was at war with them.
>>574163
And I mean the Germanics/Visigoths, the Gauls were regarded as more civilized by that time.
Was it fascism?
literally yes
>>574121
certainly not that in the flag
>>574121
National Socialism =/= Fascism.
National Socialism is a subset of Fascism that promotes race theory as well as the preservation of the state.
Fascism is more about the unification and strengthening of the state under one leader.
I guess you could say Fascism is the more vanilla version of Fascism.
Its founder, Benito Mussolini, wasn't racist or anti-semitic anyway. The only reason he started to treat Jews badly during the war was for one of two commonly accepted reasons:
1, He feared what Germany would do if he didn't do it.
2. He saw Hitler as a friend and wanted to help him.
What is a necessary evil and why do we need them?
Where would we be without them, as a whole and individual?
>>574099
>What is a necessary evil
4Chan.
>why do we need them?
Because we're bored.
>Where would we be without them, as a whole and individual?
Probably far better off.
>>574099
prison, it is wrong to confine people so, but the alternative is letting misbehaving folks run loose
>>574099
>what is a necessary evil
Nothing, it doesn't exist. Everything we consider necessary is only so because there is a greater good to come of it than bad. All actions, though, require some level of both, and therefore all goods are likewise necessary evils.
How do we dispel the idea that communism is inherently undemocratic?
By ignoring Marx and come up with other good democratic version of it and pretend it's really communism when it really isn't.
>>574080
By including more nigguz n shit. Seriously, haz you ever seen a commie thinka who wasn't some dried up cracka? Dat shit ain't democratic at all. Democrats are like ma man Obama. That's democracy, bitch, not Leinin and Stalin and all those other nasty ass crackas killin people n shit.
by setting up a secret police that slaughters all who have that idea
I see lots of people are into some art history so I think it a good idea to have a general thread going. What are your thoughts on the different schools such as neoclassicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, realism, or Baroque? The differences, similarities, or your personal faves?
>>574079
A personal favorite
Who /GreekLateClassical/ here?

That expression is so fucking genuine.
Was the 1943 invasion of Sicily and later Italy a good strategic move whose potential was wasted operationally, or was it just bad strategy from the get-go?
>>574033
It was a "let's do something for a couple of years until we dare to attack the germans proper, and also to prevent Stalin from getting pissed off with us for not doing nothing relevant at all while he engages alone 90% of the german forces + axis and anti-soviet legions from all over Europe".
>>574033
>Was the 1943 invasion of Sicily and later Italy a good strategic move
no, Churchill was a moron and was a massive failure in basically everything he ever did.
>potential was wasted operationally
Anzio was stupid, and the upper brass held Patton back purposefully because they wanted Montgomery to have a win for once in his life. People died for propaganda, fuck Eisenhower too.
Basically I'm saying that the Brits were worthless and could barely defend their own island even with US material assistance.

I would point out that the number of troops moved to Italy itself, as well as ancillary theaters like Yugoslavia and Greece to prevent further Allied springboarding, totaled to about 23% of what was in the Eastern Front in 1943 alone.
Don't get me wrong, the Soviets did the lion's share of defeating the Heer, but this whole "Everything the Western Allies did was irrelevant, it was all USSR" isn't really supportable.
What if the United States had remained completely out of the European theatre of WWII?
>no troops in any forms, including volunteers
>no lend-lease at all
>a policy of equally refrained sales to all combatants
>not allowing vessels of belligerents to enter US waters
So no destroyers or planes or tanks to Britain, no troops to North Africa, no trains, planes and automobiles to the USSR, no steel or grain or fuel to any of them.
Say America only focuses on wiping Japan out and defending its modest holdings.
How might WWII have gone? More importantly, would Britain have survived on its own?
>>574026
Is that an eddit of Korra?
>>574026
Britain never loses.
Perfidious Albion would have found some coalition or some way to win, like a street fighter backed into a corner.
Don't forget the Battle of Britain was fought, won and lost while the US was neutral and the USSR were the Nazis allies.
>>574026
When USA joined in the war already turned in the allies favor, it would have been the same outcome, but with more casualties and less american power.
Why is this guy considered so important with regard to the development of military doctrine?
>>574009
Is he?
4chan seems obsessed with him, other than that I dont really think that he is that relevant.
He basically invented modern warfare. Some would argue he along with the French revolution created the modern world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Revolution
>>574009
He was basically one of the first to utilize a disciplined and drilled army (modeled after Maurice) to great success. He also basically was responsible for the resurgence of cavalry into warfare in west Europe.
So, he was a pretty cool guy.
How can Muslims and Christians still believe what their respective faiths say about anything when modern science has completely BTFO the concept of the Jews being in Israel, the Jews from the arabian peninsula actually being descended from levantine people. Ffs we now know that Judaism and worship of Yahweh/el/whoever started as a homegrown Canaanite movement.
Explain yourselves.
Poor bait.
You're not even trying

Hello /his/
I want to hear your points about refugee policy.
My country (Germany) has welcomed lots of refugees in the past year and continues to do so. Im not sure what to think about this. I get that these people are fleeing from dangerous situations in their homeland, but otherwise someone has to try to improve these situations, and I believe that this should be done primarily by the citizens themselves and not by other countries.
Have there been similar situations in history, what was the best method to deal with refugee problems back then, and most importantly, can we use these for the current problem?
The closest thing is USA in the late 19th - early 20th century, before that time there was no infrastructure for such mass migrations on long distances. As you may know, it turn out quite well for USA.
You seem to have misplaced your thread, >>>/pol/ is that way
>>573680
Im asking for informed historically founded answers, not mindless rightwing bullshit
Can /his/ recommend some godtier history books that cover the extent of human history.
You'll be hard pressed to find a general history book covering the known extent of human civilization that could be considered "godtier". You're better off researching respected authors/historians and learning piece by piece
>>573623
Better to learn a few things properly than take short glances at a lot of things, as Marcus Aurelius would say.
Additionally history isn't in a vacuum, if you learn a ton of one thing it will naturally bleed into the entire history of the time. So just pick a few things through history that really interest you, get deeply invested in them and you'll naturally get a well rounded understanding if you're inquisitive enough.
I'm no historian but 'The Human Web: A Bird's-eye View of World History' was a nice overview.
Is life an adventure or a burden?
>>573614
A privilege
It's a labyrinth Borges wrote for you.
Supposed to be an adventure.
Since the Fall in Genesis and the introduction of sin and death, life has become a burden.
