There is a reason that all members of the commonwealth generally regard British colonialism as a positive. A few countries that weren't even colonized by Britain begged to join the commonwealth.

The British Empire was on the whole a "force for good" in the world, which is more than can be said for the American Empire -- which is almost universally hated, for good reasons.
