I'd like to discuss the historical accuracy of the the new GoT episode, Battle of the Bastards.

Now it's not perfect, but there were many elements I found very intriguing, moreso in that they decided to include certain aspects of medieval warfare in the episode. First one that just really stood out was Jon Snow being buried by dead bodies and trampled on in the chaos of his army being surrounded. As we are probably aware, medieval battle was hardly an organized or clean affair and that particular part of the scene really showed the suffocation, dread, and helplessness of what happens when so many bodies come together and fight in hand to hand combat.

The cavalry charge in the beginning really impressed me with how the horses and riders after charging basically were running amok just smashing into anything. The use of archers was also very welcoming even if they overplayed a bit the ruthlessness of Ramsay to shoot into his own men.

The shields and pikes, while too reminiscent of 300, was also very well put together in how they functioned and fought. I think there is a common thought that battles were very "fighty" when in reality many times it was just large groups of bodies smashing about or shields pushing back people with the occasionally prodding, stabbing, and poking with long arms, swords if someone got too close.

Overall it was pretty accurate, a bit of warfare overlap, but the sizes of the army I found also to be sensible and not ridiculous. Nobody having helmets kind of bothered me but not really a deal breaker.

Thoughts? Criticisms? Impressions?

Nice contribution. I know it's a fantasy show, dumbass, but to suggest the scene wasn't based on a real historical era is asinine. I want to discuss the elements of history they chose to incorporate and the efficacy of it. As it pertains to medieval warfare.

What is asinine is you, apparently.

>... and the efficacy of it.

The efficacy of what in relation to what?

Especially if exposed to negative stimuli from a young age your >self becomes much less prone to mental damage in the future,so I'm guessing scars could be just a friendly reminder from your brain to avoid and prepare yourself to face off with said negative stimuli .
Negative experiences force you to either mature or become fully numb.

I feel like most people become enticed to loosen their morals when they see what the average person can get away with in the name of self gratification and exploitation of others.

But I also think there's enough conviction in the world to keep us from becoming total animals.

Regardless, interesting question anon.

If you were elected as the Pope, what would your name be and why?

I would choose Leo, and therefore become Leo XIV. Mostly because I'm a huge admirer of the story/myth of how Pope Leo I the Great got rid of Attila and saved Rome for some years. I would also be tempted to use old names like Urban, Celestine ore Sixtus though.

What name would you choose?

Imagine being Rommel in that battle and having to be all like "damn, Italy, you fuchin' fine, all sexy with your tight uniforms and horrific ww1 weapons. I would totally have command you, both me as a military officer and the real me." when all he really wants to do is lead his platoon through Africa. Like seriously imagine having to be Rommel and not only sit in that panzerl while Italy flaunts her disgusting tanks in front of you, the favorable african sun barely concealing her rivet marks and leathery armor, and just sit there, battle after battle, hour after hour, while she perfected that engagement. Not only having to tolerate her monstrous fucking visage but her haughty attitude as everyone on set tells her she's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, ITALY FIGHTS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch her mannish fucking Luigi face contort into types of pasta you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been fucking nothing but a healthy diet of blondes and Ubermensch and later alleged war crime victims for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Southern Germany. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the pizza sauce that's breaking out on her dimpled stomach as she sucks it in to writhe it suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to sit there and revel in her "Romanesque(for that is what she calls herself)" beauty, the beauty she worked so hard for with Mussolini in the previous months. And then the Fuhrer calls for another battle, and you know you could kill every single soldier in this force before the Reich could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Rommel. You're not going to lose your future military career over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.

How did Russia manage to reach the Pacific ocean by the 17th century? What would Siberia have been like? Who were the original inhabitants?

I can answer one of you questions. The original inhabitants of the Siberia region were Uralic, Altaic, Yeniseian, and then a few very small groups. They were for the most part very nomadic (Imagine like Mongolia but on larger scale with more cultures).

Hello, /his/. I was born and raised a Christian, but I've been having doubts if Christianity is what I need in my life at this point in time. I've been doing some introductory readings into Buddhism, just basics, but I was wondering what /his/ could tell me about converting to Buddhism.

First, it's more a philosophy and less a religion if your a Westerner.
It's more or less improvement on ones self. The end game is enlightent, which basically means understanding your place in the universe. When you die depending on whether you were decent or not, you could go to heaven/hell, or reach Nirvana. Or you could just reincarnate.
But like every view some interpret it in their own way. To me it's a more down to earth belief, but not too different from most religious ideas.

How was the Spanish rule over their colonies in the Americas? Additionally, how come so many of the Latin Republics fail in comparison to the United States? Also, could /his/ hook an anon up with some books regarding Spain and its colonies?

i dont know much about how spain rain the colonies except for 1 fact.

people who came to the united states arrived to colonize and extract all resources, but they found there wasnt much shining metals, so instead took to settle in, they owned the land and were the citizens, taking to farming and improving infrastructure

when spain arrived to central and south america they took all resources, enslaved the population, owned the land and didint care about much except taxes.
>>
Colonial era Spain was a High Middle Ages kind of place.

Absolute monarchy, fanatical religious devotion, entrenched caste system, and no independent institutions as we would understand them today.

Combine these tendencies with the view of the native people as pagan savages and a plantation system of agriculture that concentrated wealth in a handful of powerful families, and you have the recipe for a society mostly built on patronage and violence, which no room for rule of law.
>>
>>1310059
If there was a general view of natives as pagan savages, then why did Spanish colonists mix with them? Was it simply >muh dick?

Can a coommie explain wtf dialectic materialism actually is?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Basically it's a fancy term for "class warfare"

Communism is an inherently materialistic and believes that all history is moved by economics and the conflicts thereof and not by any transcendent idealistic bullshit. It's all about the material and whether you have or don't have it.
>>
so, dialectics is a methodology of understanding the world that tries to understand how any one thing is connected to every other thing that affects it. dialectics wants to examine how a subject changes over time in relation to the other subjects that shape it. an example might be how racial attitudes change over time in accordance to state legislation regarding different ethnic races.

marxists.org says it well enough.

>Dialectics is the method of reasoning which aims to understand things concretely in all their movement, change and interconnection, with their opposite and contradictory sides in unity.

>Dialectics is opposed to the formal, metaphysical mode of thought of ordinary understanding which begins with a fixed definition of a thing according to its various attributes. For example formal thought would explain: ‘a fish is something with no legs which lives in the water’.

?Darwin however, considered fish dialectically: some of the animals living in the water were not fish, and some of the fish had legs, but it was the genesis of all the animals as part of a whole interconnected process which explained the nature of a fish: they came from something and are evolving into something else.
source: https://www.marxists.org/glossary/terms/d/i.htm

materialism is an idea that all thought comes from existing matter, rather than thought originating as some abstract idea in the mind. materialism is in opposition to idealism. there's a can of worms there that you can open at your leisure, i don't feel like explaining it because i don't even fully understand the conflict between the two enough to give you an in depth explanation as is.

dialectical materialism is a combination of the above two ideas. it places a focus on the material - ie what is concrete, what exists on earth now, not what is the realm of the mind - as the explanation for why things are they way they are, and why things tend to change the way they do.

So what is the incentive of worshipping God in the first place?
Like, if we go to heaven, is he gonna enslave us or something? Why would he care if we're good or not? Each person to go to heaven would be just another one in the pile until the Earth gets swallowed by the sun (unless God decides to make another planet or something)

Just a philosophical rebound and response to the "soullessness" of modern society.

People fear not having guiding principles, so they contort their brains in knots to pretend that the principles exist and can have definitive statements made about them.
