Why has economic growth become so important to modern man?
>>1678698
Because modern man associates economic growth with everything good. Knowledge, an increase in those who are willing to use, discover, and proliferate knowledge. An uptick in living conditions, bragging rights over other communities, etc.

Since Australia is on this map from the 1500s, why did it take so long for any Europeans to settle there? Aren't there habitable non-desert areas by the coast?

Thought you may like this. Found it 2 days ago saw the shine of the obsidian in the side of a trail and unearthed it. Never found anything like this arrow head before. Do you have some relics to share?
Neat. All I have are some unidentified WW2 medals.
>post
They're in storage.
I found an arrowhead made out of regular stone one time. I suspect it was made by some bored person in more modern times though. It was far too thick and poorly made to be useful.
Not sure what I did with it.
My grandmother gave me this. Her great grandmother was a Blackfoot witch or some other sort of heathen that my Christian family despised. She scared my grandmother shitless as a child.
I guess giving her this family relic was a way to make up for it.
I also have a WWII boot knife and an old revolver that's had the hammer removed.
What the fuck was the Indo-European/Aryan secret to success? What was it about this group in prehistory that enabled them to carve out timeless civilizations wherever they went?
I was reading Indoeuropean Poetry and Myth by West, he said that wheels, chariots and domesticated horses interevened very late in the (pre)history of the Indoeuropeans, so while they can explain a very explosive spread of this people, they cannot by themselves be the answer to your question.
Perhaps the caste system made sure that the warriors were professional-like enough to be more than a match for non-PIE tribes?
>>1678044
I don't recall ever hearing that they had exceptionally fierce warriors, outside of the advanced horse and chariot element you mentioned. The idea is good, though. If the tribe was organized enough in prehistory to have dedicated warrior castes a cut above everyone else, then they were bound to lay the bedrock for advanced civilization.
If they had the numbers as well, even better, but then there is the other question of how they managed to grow large and still stay cohesive, and that would be a cultural matter.
They were germanic
Do you believe that we are capable of comprehending everything in this universe, if given the chance to explore all of it?

Maybe. unlikely

Not right now
but we could evolve, naturally or artificially
>>1677904
Individually no
As a species, maybe.
what does /his/ think of Taoism?
I recommend this book. Anyone else read it?
Interesting monist philosophy and mysticism is turned into polytheism, elaborate liturgies, priestly classes, quests for immortality, divinization of Laozi, alchemy, etc.
For an example of "the Daoism that doesn't end with the Zhuangzi", here's some stuff from Introducing Daoism by Kohn:
Once they exist, the Dao as Great Nonbeing creates the three fundamental qi of the cosmos: mysterious, primordial, and beginning. They in turn intermingle in chaos and bring forth a primordial goddess called Jade Maiden of Mystery and Wonder, a name that combines the basic attributes of Dao with the formal title of a Daoist goddess. She next gives birth to the celestial version of Laozi through her left armpit. The god in this version is not Dao as such but its direct product, mediated through a series of transformations that bring forth heavens, spiritual powers, pure energies, and a mother figure. He is born supernaturally even in Heaven. His emergence from the left armpit, moreover, borrows from the birth story of the Buddha, who leaves his mother through her right hip.

I didn't read that translation, I recommend Red Pine's.
There's some interesting commentary in LaFargue's edition too.

What does this symbol mean? Why is it used by Mongols and Tibetans (traditional Bon religion) simultaneously? What is the link between both cultures?
It's about Tengriism actually
>>1677878
So why Tibetans use Tengriist symbology?
>>1677869
Quote from Mongol forum
"Ancient Mongolian symbol has MOON, SUN and(not star maybe because they didn`t know this 5 angle shape) a FIRE. Symbol with mix of MOON & SUN is called Hunnic=Nomadic.
The Soyombo symbol is a special character out of the Mongolian Soyombo script that was invented by Zanabazar in 1686. It serves as a national symbol of Mongolia, to be found on the Flag of Mongolia, the Coat of arms of Mongolia, and on many other official documents.Sun and moon symbolise that the Mongolian nation will exist for eternity as the eternal blue sky. Sun, moon and fire symbols derived from Xiongnu."
Were soldiers in the front ranks 100% guaranteed to die? How the fuck did they not freak out?
>>1677662
No, because they had a rotation. You weren't in the front all the time.
>>1677662
You did get wounded too you know. That'd pull you off the formation.

Given that up until the late XIXth century non-combat losses were greater than combat losses I guess it wasn't that bad.
