What the fuck was the Indo-European/Aryan secret to success?

I was reading Indoeuropean Poetry and Myth by West, he said that wheels, chariots and domesticated horses interevened very late in the (pre)history of the Indoeuropeans, so while they can explain a very explosive spread of this people, they cannot by themselves be the answer to your question.

Perhaps the caste system made sure that the warriors were professional-like enough to be more than a match for non-PIE tribes?

I don't recall ever hearing that they had exceptionally fierce warriors, outside of the advanced horse and chariot element you mentioned. The idea is good, though. If the tribe was organized enough in prehistory to have dedicated warrior castes a cut above everyone else, then they were bound to lay the bedrock for advanced civilization.

If they had the numbers as well, even better, but then there is the other question of how they managed to grow large and still stay cohesive, and that would be a cultural matter.

West worked a lot on poetry and reconstructing the poets and his role.

Mythology keeps the tribal identity in place, and the poets promise (eternal) glory to their patrons and the warriors, you don't worry too much about the afterlife because of reincarnation, theosis or simply the stories and memories of the wandering poet.

I contend that the Indoeuropeans had the most advanced social structure and political system, at least when compared to the alternatives of their time that weren't in Egypt or Mesopotamia.

on the subject of IE poetry: epic poetry honestly can't tell us very much about the actual functioning of a society, just its outward trappings. The Iliad is splendid as a portrayal of bronze age warfare suffused with mythic symbolism, but you can't really get a good handle on exactly how wealthy Homeric Greece was and what stage of technological advancement did it reach. Just look at how over the place iron is portrayed, and how Bellerophon apparently knew how to write.

in addition IE poetry itself although indeed relatively very well and deeply attested does not have nearly comprehensive enough a record to reveal to us a moral foundation to PIE society: we know about the importance of undying glory but not much more than that. Watkins spent like half a book dealing with the (h1e-?)gwhen oghim formula just so he could firmly plant a branch of the dragonslaying tree on IE soil and prove that it wasn't a completely universal mytheme or whatever.

as both of the anons above mentioned, it was the martial structure of indo-european society which led to its particular characteristics and success. indo-european culture was so martial that the military even usurped family and clan in terms of importance, this is unconstestable.

indians had a priestly society, which made them idiots. jews had a legal society, which made them smart liars. muslims had a clan society, which made them violent.

Chinese and Japanese had a legal-rationalist society, which made them smart and relatively peaceful, but not nearly as good at establishing truthfulness as ours, and which made them less ambitious.

martial success allows zero room for lies, as a single lie will destroy an entire military campaign. it's why we're the most truthful society even though we're not necessarily the smartest, and why we laud the warrior class, because they're the pillar that upholds truth telling in our society.

Really the most notable are the Romans, Greeks, Vedic, and Iranian civilizations. The Persian expansion was probably eased by the void left by the Sumerians.
Other Indo-European peoples before colonialism achieved a level of success similar to most other prominent cultures in the world.
