The priests of Amen in Thebes was becoming extremely powerful, undermining royal power. it was likely to be in part at least an attempt to take away their power

He was a religious zealot first and foremost, the fact that his reforms removed power from his rivals was a happy accident, he would have tried to covert is country to Atenism even if doing so somehow strengthened the priests (if they all just converted em-mass or something)

Being born is a harm. The problem with this statement isn't that it's false, it's that it is so obviously true that people call it "childish" because we all figured it out as children.

Remember when your parents first told you "life isn't fair"? Or "life's a bitch and then you die"? And then implied you should be grateful?

Ever notice that babies cry when they are born?

Ever notice that almost everyone in the world has some obviously false belief about suffering being avoidable or about there being an afterlife that makes it all okay?

Ever notice how the most entertaining things in life are called "escapism"?

Ever notice that humans behave exactly as if they are instinct-driven apex predators that can make up social excuses?

Ever notice that the leading cause of "disability" in the world is a "mental illness" called "depression" that causes people to say things like "what's the point? it's all hopeless"?

I am attending a conference about anthropology of peace, What is your opinion about the peace anthropoloy? Is there something you would like me to ask in the conference?

Why, no matter what society you live in, can peace only be achieved through non-peaceful means.

Generic, but yeah.
>>
>>1754486
Are we humans peaceful by nature? Is war just another by-product of competitive behavior?
>>
War is typically the result of one of three things

Rational Calculation; the state sees resources or political advantage and uses armed force as a gambit to improve their situation.

This typically takes the form of the very powerful states dividing the world among themselves and taking from less powerful societies. It is rarely worthwhile for a state to go to war if the outcome is not nearly certain. Example: Anglo-Zanzibar War

Irrational calculation; this takes either the form of nationalist rage, or more commonly an inflated view of military capability and diplomatic security, caused by a dysfunctional foreign policy apparatus. This is what causes the majority of major inter-state conflicts. Example: 2003 Iraq Invasion

Distraction; the leadership of a society uses a conflict in a calculated ploy to gain domestic political support. A common theme in these conflicts is that the conflict has little potential to destroy the leadership or the society, and is often intractable by design. Example: Falklands War

Note that these models only explain the beginning of a war, that is, the initial attack. When attacked, it is nearly always in the best interests of a society to respond with force.

Rational war, especially economically motivated war, has become less common as the international consequences of aggressive warfare have become more severe.

Irrational calculation will continue as long as governments are incompetent, but is particularly common in nationalist societies, and in autocratic governments.

Distraction wars are typically an extension of domestic political instability, most often where a government is chronically, structurally unable to meet the demands of a population, often in a kleptocracy society or in the developing world.

Collective security arrangements can make all of these types less common, but as long as one society wishes to start a war, a war is inevitable.

What went wrong?

I need help learning philosophy, I know nothing about it. But I was interested in it for a long time. Reason I didn't get into it was because people who I thought were smart like Niel Degrasse
Tyson talked badly about philosophy. Now I realize I fucked up, because I seriously don't know what to think about life. - Anon Shit Poster

Get Bertrand Russels book, its a great starting point.

Read Spinoza's Ethics.

Aside from that. Just read books that philosophers have written. Aristotle, Descartes, Plato, Kant, Spinoza, Nietzsche. They all say very different things. Think about what they say. You don't have to make decisions. Just think about it.
>>
>>1754254
Yes this is a good recommendation.

Even so, don't blindly believe anything. Russel is a brilliant philosopher but his words must be tested just like anyone else's.

>Albania was important culturally and historically to the nationalist aims of the Italian Fascists, as the territory of Albania had long been part of the Roman Empire, even prior to the annexation of northern Italy by the Romans. Later, during the High Middle Ages, some coastal areas (like Durazzo) had been influenced and owned by Italian powers, chiefly the Kingdom of Naples and the Republic of Venice for many years (cf. Albania Veneta). The Italian Fascist regime legitimized its claim to Albania through studies proclaiming the racial affinity of Albanians and Italians, especially as opposed to the Slavic Yugoslavs. Italian Fascists claimed that Albanians were linked through ethnic heritage to Italians due to links between the prehistoric Italiotes, Roman and Illyrian populations, and that the major influence exhibited by the Roman and Venetian empires over Albania justified Italy's right to possess it.

Name a single more retarded irredentist claim

So thats why they razed the Second Temple of David Khan and the local Christians turned it into a garbage zone before the righteous Muslims came and restored it to glory?

And don't get me started when they created the meme of christianity and started to persecute any pagan not following it by destroying their temples or just out killing them.

Hey his/ I was wondering if you had any good reads on British colonialism effect on India's environment and economy.
I recently heard claim that Britain was searching for similar climates to emigrate to
Ex: New England and eastern Australia and South Africa
The person went on to say that when they landed in India they tried to change the land to more suit them.
How true is this? They were also saying stuff about British emmigrating to Argentina for the climate but as far as I can tell they never had Argentina as a colony

Argentinians kicked British invasions..
>>
Sounds retarded to me for several reasons. First, brits didn't choose their colonies based on the weather, that's so silly it almost doesn't deserve a reply. Second, its not like British humans are different from others, they don't need to terraform to move

Honestly difficult to even address this question because it's so dumb
>>
>>1753045
I'm not saying I agree with it, I was just wondering if anybody would have a source on how the British would of had an effect on Indian environment

What is natural?
Is doing something because is "natural" good??

If someone says something is bad because it is "unnatural", how do I debunk them?

What's the line between nature and not-nature?

If man can do something within his natural ability like engineer skyscrapers, video games, are all of those things a product of nature, man, or both?

>If someone says something is bad because it is "unnatural", how do I debunk them?
This isn't about finding out the true meaning of a word. It's about dominance, isn't it?
>>
>>1752916
The entire point of debate and argument isn't to convince the other person, but to win a battle of intellect and wit. So yes, dominance.
>>
>>1752907
hello gorillaposter
I just finished a philosophy exam so I'll help you out
"natural = good/bad" is not an argument on its own, but you can say that become something is "natural" it is the predictable course of an agent's behavior. ex. a dog barks and pisses on things. trying to stop a dog from doing these things is "unnatural" and probably disadvantageous to the dog, like trying to push the hands of a clock in the opposite direction, because it's native mechanism makes it do these things.

for humans the same principle applies, but humans "naturally" create and innovate things and live in complex social orders. "unnatural" behavior is, more aptly, suppressing the *unique* tasks carried out by men. it's okay to suppress sex, eating, shitting, sleeping, hygiene, etc because other animals do these and they're subordinate to social creativity, the prime function of man.
