I am attending a conference about anthropology of peace, What is your opinion about the peace anthropoloy? Is there something you would like me to ask in the conference?
>>
Why, no matter what society you live in, can peace only be achieved through non-peaceful means.

Generic, but yeah.

Are we humans peaceful by nature? Is war just another by-product of competitive behavior?
>>
War is typically the result of one of three things

Rational Calculation; the state sees resources or political advantage and uses armed force as a gambit to improve their situation.

This typically takes the form of the very powerful states dividing the world among themselves and taking from less powerful societies. It is rarely worthwhile for a state to go to war if the outcome is not nearly certain. Example: Anglo-Zanzibar War

Irrational calculation; this takes either the form of nationalist rage, or more commonly an inflated view of military capability and diplomatic security, caused by a dysfunctional foreign policy apparatus. This is what causes the majority of major inter-state conflicts. Example: 2003 Iraq Invasion

Distraction; the leadership of a society uses a conflict in a calculated ploy to gain domestic political support. A common theme in these conflicts is that the conflict has little potential to destroy the leadership or the society, and is often intractable by design. Example: Falklands War

Note that these models only explain the beginning of a war, that is, the initial attack. When attacked, it is nearly always in the best interests of a society to respond with force.

Rational war, especially economically motivated war, has become less common as the international consequences of aggressive warfare have become more severe.

Irrational calculation will continue as long as governments are incompetent, but is particularly common in nationalist societies, and in autocratic governments.

Distraction wars are typically an extension of domestic political instability, most often where a government is chronically, structurally unable to meet the demands of a population, often in a kleptocracy society or in the developing world.

Collective security arrangements can make all of these types less common, but as long as one society wishes to start a war, a war is inevitable.

Thank you people. I am taking note. Do you think it was possible to build the human society through peace and have what we have now in matter of cience, technology and art?

As long as one side wants a war, there will be a war.

The best you can realistically do is maintain standards that are designed to prevent wars from breaking out.

As in, a taboo against aggressive warfare, and an expectation that all societies will respond to aggressive warfare with force, even if they aren't personally threatened.

Peace is the prize of a just war.

Wasn't Falklands war more like a matter of principle?
>>
Question whether the present definition of peace is already outdated or not.

>anthropology of peace
What do they mean by this?

Apes and chimps and monkeys make me so uncormfatable, lads. It seems they're not often violent, necessarily, but when they are the accounts are brutal and disturbing in a way that sticks. It's not like when a big cat brings down an elk; there's nothing majestic, if tragic, about the way these uncanny subhumans deal injury and death. They don't consume out of necessity -- they attack strategically, without inhibition, in order to prevent competitors from being able to carry on, in this generation or the next.

This sort of primal Darwinism, this reality which does not forgive our weaknesses and can't be reasoned with, is the source of the deepest animal anxiety, and it is exemplified in the aggressive behavior of our savage relatives.

Are we humans emotional and illogical by nature? Is war just another by-product of lack of emotional control?
>>
Thank you for your contributions.

Peace can only be achieved only through non-peaceful means is just a perception. Maybe we think in this way because we live in a non-peaceful society. It is possible to build a peaceful society through an equal social organization, high levels of reciprocity, social reciprocity and proximity, and non-coercive sistems to rule.
>>1754497
Humans are capable to be peaceful by nature, however we have agressive instincts that allowed us to survive to the risks throughout the evolution. Aggressive isnĀ“t the same that violent. The violence is a learnt behavior, influenced by the social, familiar, historic and cultural contexts.

the presenter explained that Peace has not a unique meaning, it is not ethnocentric. Peace is a transcultural conception that will be achieve through the dialogue between us and the entire world.
>>1754528
And also war is typically the result of religion differences.

In general conclussion, peace must be the fundamental value of humans.
