Depends on which interpretation you like. Still, this questions is like, "Are Santa and the tooth fairy friends?"

Why are the Jacobites considered an "uprising"?
The Stuart line were the rightful, legal kings of Britain, despite being overthrown in a squalid putsch by Dutchmen.
Surely the Williamites were the ones undertaking an uprising?

Lets pay our respects to a great politician. Also lets discuss the history of Israel specifically the factors that made it much more successfull than its arab neighbourhood in a military and economical sense.

Eventhough he was a bit dubious in the end he was still a great man of the Oghuz people of Israel.
He will always be remember on the great board /osman/ as a man of peace.

What is the /his/ assessment of pic related?
a beautiful man with beautiful legs that you cropped out of the picture you austrian swine

Complicated. Probably his single biggest impact was his policy of wholesale bribery of the aristocracy into keeping them away from any position actually important to governing the country and largely replacing them with bureaucrats loyal to the crown.
It centralized France enormously, and tamped down on the sorts of private wars that were the Fronde and earlier in the Wars of Religion, but it damn near bankrupted the country.
He fought quite a few wars, most of which were successful, but his later ones were more of a mixed bag.
He lived almost forever, great for internal stability, but as often tends to happen with that, you get a successive king who is either a child when the old man finally kicks the bucket (younger son), or an old man himself when he does. Louis XV was the former, and he was pretty ineffective, never really growing out of his regency mindset.
That's all I can think of offhand.
Too warlike, but very efficient and cultured
What does this symbol really mean?
>>1750230
It's just a symbol, it doesn't "really" mean anything.
Why is so much attention given to 'ethnicities' in history and whether they can be connected to different groups in the present day?
Are ethnic and national categories as we understand them today appropriate in the study of pre-modern history?
>>1750013
westphalian states grew out of ethnic groups, almost down to the mile in terms of general borders. so yes, it's relevant, you postmodern faggot
>>1750046
What the fuck did I just read? Westphalian states grew out of whatever kingdoms happened to exist at the time, which came down to who conquered/married who.
Take Spain, for example. The people were a combination of celtic and iberian, with some roman and goth in the east and north, and some north african in the south. This unique admixture of ethnicities was unique to Iberia, but Spain was separated from Portugal by politics and culture, not ethnicity. The same is true for most Westphalian states; they became a distinct ethnicity only after being a unified polity for so long as to develop a sense of national identity.
>>1750013
They're good for studying origins of language and culture, but not too much more. They are only appropriate today because of their geographical associations (it's useful to sometimes refer to Celts in Germany even though Germany wasn't a political entity).
>>1750013
I think ethnicities are important to talk about when discussing human history, however
>Are ethnic and national categories as we understand them today appropriate in the study of pre-modern history?
The answer to that is no. Humans are very different ethnically than we were even 500 years ago.
of the 20th century?
of all time? in your opinion

He's unfortunately right.
In terms of all-time while outdated, there is no question the most influential history book is Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall
the most influential of the 20th century is probably Braudel's the Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World

This was the official platform of the Republican party the year he ran for office.
>There are no Communists in the Republican Party. We have always recognized Communism to be a world conspiracy against freedom and religion. We never compromised with Communism and we have fought to expose it and to eliminate it in government and American life. A Republican President will appoint only persons of unquestioned loyalty. We will overhaul loyalty and security programs. In achieving these purposes a Republican President will cooperate with Congress. We pledge close coordination of our intelligence services for protecting our security. We pledge fair but vigorous enforcement of laws to safeguard our country from subversion and disloyalty. By such policies we will keep the country secure and restore the confidence of the American people in the integrity of our Government.

Hi /his/
Recently, I inherited a sword from my deceased grandpa, who inherited it from either his father, grandpa, or great grandpa, who was an officer in the Danish army.
I took it to /k/ to find out exactly what type of sword it was, and they told me that it was a French Cavalry sword, used in the Napoleonic era.
Clearly, there is something wrong here
My ancestor who owned this sword was Danish, he had a Danish first and last name, his wife was Danish, and he lived in Denmark. I have no French ancestry.
Do any of you know why this may be? Any events or battles that would put a French sword in the hand of a Danish officer?
pic related, its the sword. also has some writing etched on the side of the hilt, which i can post if u want
Maybe Denmark imported French cavalry swords?
Maybe the entire claims bogus
this is the sword /k/ told me it was
that's pretty cool anon. it definitely looks like the french sword /k/ showed you, but in the early 19th century most armys used hangers/cutlass/sabers like the one you have, it's possible it was a danish imitation or even a french sword your ancestor bought or took home as a souvenir

Why is he so perfect?
Because he read Ecce Homo.
Because he was progressive in all the right places.

Was holocaust really the worst genocide ever? I would prefer to die here than to be killed by Pot Pot, for example.
>>1748520
I'd say the Rwandan genocide is the most tragic, since we barely even know how many died
Yes, actually
Just because we are familiar with it does not make it any less horrific
>>1748520
Actually you were more likely to die in the Gulags than the Nazi camps. But the Gommies were on the winning side, so their crimes were ignored.
