>Landholders ought to have a share in the government, to support these invaluable interests, and to balance and check the other. They ought to be so constituted as to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. The senate, therefore, ought to be this body; and to answer these purposes, they ought to have permanency and stability
- James Madison, the father of the Constitution (and the wealthy owner of 100+ slaves)
Does anyone else have more quotes that make the founding fathers look bad? I'm asking because Americans are indoctrinated to believe that the founders were infallible gods and conservatives (and liberals to a lesser extent) use this belief to justify their positions when they have no real argument for them. I think if people saw the flaws of the founders they would be less likely to be swayed by these arguments from authority.
>>1944041
How exactly does this make Madison look bad? What flaws do you mean? Are you presupposing that they are bad because you FEEL they are bad or are they actually bad?
>>1944042
>How exactly does this make Madison look bad?
By playing into the general American mentality of "fuck the corporations."
>>1944042
It sounds like he's saying the Senate was designed so the elite could rule over the masses. I am in favor of democracy so I think this is a bad thing. Most people at least say they support democracy, right?
>Are you presupposing that they are bad because you FEEL they are bad or are they actually bad?
I feel this is bad. I don't want to get in the discussion of what is "actually" bad.
Marx literally said that Socialism/Communism would only come about at the peak of Capitalist development yet all these retards literally tried overthrowing poor governments and establishing something which could never work.
Surely if you want to be truly Communist you must NOT be a Communist because only then, once Capitalism gets to its end THEN we can consider other options.
Am I right or wrong?
Lenin agreed and saw the Russian revolution as merely a placeholder for a revolution in Germany or the usa.
Once it became clear it wouldn't happen they just tried to make lemonade out of lemons.
>>1943879
>yet all these retards literally tried overthrowing poor governments and establishing something
That's what's supposed to happen at the peak. Some people (except Russians) debate where that peak is. Consider dialectics.
>establishing something which could never work
That's a problem, the German Marxists got mad about Lenin too, but they're not remembered because they never created an empire that rivaled America and genocided gorillions. Leninism was meant as a form of accelerationalism. Skip past the Capitalism. Force atheism instead of letting it wither away. Centralizing everything because it's faster. Etc.
>>1943884
Leninade*
funny thing about that whole capitalism will collapse thing
it will always happen in your life time
just like the return of Jesus to earth
Sorry commufriends, your best shot was the great depression, now you have to wait for capitalism to die by a thousand cuts via automation and robotics
Did Stalin do ANYTHING wrong?
back to /leftypol/ you autistic temporarily embarrassed people's Commissar
P.s. your memes are shit and always shoddily put together (commushits are lazy talentless hacks who can't even spend 15 minutes learning how to use photo who wudda think it)
>>1943864
He was a Bolshevik.
But if you simply consider him a fascist with lying socialist propaganda, just like how we consider Hitler and his National "Socialism" and volkism, Stalin by all means was an amazing dictator and empire builder, his only flaw was he did not establish a dynasty to ensure the long term continuation of his rule, like Alexander, and eventually we ended up with Gorbachev and [COLAPSE]
>>1943864
Idk. I mean, there are many ethical digs to be made at Stalin. I'm not gonna lie, I'm in awe of Stalin and I'm a right winger. He was that perfect storm of enlightenment ideals taken to such an extreme that no other result was imaginable. He didn't really do anything wrong, so much as he did as his ideology was destined to do.
How good of a business was being the executioner?
>>1943246
You get befits like a retirement plan health dental when you retire you get AARP on you side
Here are some accounts of executioners in Canada,
John Radclive
John Radclive was Canada's first professional executioner, placed on the federal payroll as a hangman by a Dominion order-in-council in 1892, on the recommendation of the justice minister Sir John Thompson:[18] Radclive is often described as having trained under British hangman William Marwood although there is no documentary proof for this. He can be shown to have hanged at least 69 people in Canada, although his life total was probably much higher. At his death, the Toronto Telegram said he had 150 executions. He died of alcohol-related illness in Toronto on February 26, 1911, at the age of 55.[19]
Arthur Ellis
Arthur Ellis was the pseudonym of Arthur B. English, a British man who became Canada's official hangman in 1913, after Radclive's death. Ellis worked as a hangman in Canada until the botched execution of Thomasina Sarao in Montreal in 1935, in which she was decapitated. He died in poverty in Montreal in July, 1938, and lies buried in the Mount Royal Cemetery.
The Crime Writers of Canada present annual literary awards – the Arthur Ellis Awards – named after this pseudonym. Ellis is prominently featured in the 2009 documentary Hangman's Graveyard.
Camille Blanchard
The executioner who worked as Camille Blanchard, a pseudonym, succeeded Ellis. Blanchard was on the Quebec government payroll as a hangman, and executed people elsewhere in the country on a piecework basis. The hangman was traditionally based in Montreal where between 1912 and 1960 the gallows at Bordeaux Prison saw more executions (85) take place than any other correctional facility in Canada.[20]
Blanchard carried out many executions (for which he was not paid) in the postwar period in Canada, such as the double hanging of Leonard Jackson and Steven Suchan of the Boyd Gang at the Don Jail in 1952, and Robert Raymond Cook's execution in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, in 1960.[21]
Seems to not be to steady a line of work.
No idea but in France the position was hereditary so if your dad was an executioner you were fucked.
Why does /his/ hate the Great Man theory so much?
>>1943159
As an actual theory of history, it sucks. As mythology, it's great.
>>1943159
All of them likes butt sex with Korean men
Great Man Theory is the most romantic and fun way to look at history which means like all fun and romantic ideas (religion, libertarianism, communism, etc.) it has to be wrong.
Is post-modernism the final stage?

Somewhat. But destroy everything is only a response to total war.

It works for the same reason no one picks on the biggest guy in high school.
Answer me this, we never had WW3 correct?
Which is the most effective way to control a country for the longest period of time?
Annexing, puppeting, genociding etc
>>1942243
Based on what you want to do.
(((own controlling shares of the central bank while pushing big government for the corporations and small government for everyone else)))
>>1942254
Say I'm UK and want to control France, not just influence, but complete power over their leader or people/territory
What was his name again?

So, as someone who is getting back into his German heritage (before you make assumptions -- I voted for Hillary), I decided to actually explore German, or Germanic, history since I only enough of it to not admit my ancestors are from Bavaria.
So two questions:
- Any basics I should start with? I can only Wikipedia or so much.
*and*
- How depressing will this history get? And how fast?
>>1942114
>So, as someone who is getting back into his German heritage
Oh the cringe ._.

Fuck off, you piece of shit.
>1/128 German here, tell me about my ancestors :DDD
Americans are so cute when they do this
I'm having trouble with the distinction between good vs bad and good vs evil. Can you help me out?
It's subjective to your culture and upbringing, excluding outliers such as psychological maniacs or edge lords on the world wide web.
>>1942056
You can have a bad sammich, but not an evil sammich.
>>1942061
I don't follow. Are the judgements of people on the internet what determine moral things such as "evil"?
What the fuck is this abomination? Are they Russian or Lithuanian or what? What are they even doing?

They are White Ruthenians aka Belarusians, they just had little chance to express their nationality since they were culturally oppressed by Poles, Russians and Lithuanians
