Git out you Frisian piece of shit
Was Charlemagne French or German?
Both.
I'm leaning towards him being more important to the history of France than that of Germany though.
>>1940657
>nationality
>in 800
He was a Holy Roman.

ITT: historical red flags
>interested in nazi history
>primary interest is military history
>primary interest is their own country's history
>primary interest is a country's history outside of their continent
>they subscribe entirely to great man theory
>they subscribe entirely to collectivist theory
>they disregard women throughout history
>they use the term 'nation' to describe something pre-modern
>they apply modern moral judgements on past figures
>they believe in historical determinism
>they believe history is cyclical
>they argue about who 'inherited' rome's legacy
>they're greek
>they're russian
>they're turkish
>they're chinese
>judges societies based on how 'advanced' they are, which really means more inventions they care about
>>1939555
>>primary interest is a country's history outside of their continent
What's wrong with that?
>>1939555
>>judges societies based on how 'advanced' they are, which really means more inventions they care about
Yes tell me how the culture that only invented a throwing stick had a superior spiritual life.
>>1939573
see orientalism
obviously it's not inherent, but it is something to watch out for in people

Is the current political course somewhat comparable to the Spring of Nations in the mid-19th century? Back in the day, people were sick of monarchism and imperialism, now they're fed with globalism.
It's more like 1930s and I am not even joking. In both cases there is dissatisfaction with political elites and severe economic downturn.
neither lel pen nor afd will win you fag
>>1938459
>Is the current political course somewhat comparable to the Spring of Nations in the mid-19th century?
Did the conservatives of the world started gunning down their leaders and launched revolts and even outright civil wars across the western world?
No?
Then it isn't. Its just meme elections and refendums which you fuckers do all the time.
Why hasn't there ever been 'real' communism or socialism?
Because none of them have ever followed it 100% the way I wanted it to.
servile behavior and a pecking order is hard coded into our DNA
anti hierarchy hardcore Marxists and anarchists will never come to terms with this
t. social democrat
Because if there's strife and inequality in capitalism, it's the system failing the people. If there's strife and inequality in communism it's the people failing the system.
If only humans would stop letting Marx down by being greedy and manipulative, everything would be happy and classless.
I'm curious as to why few, if any, nations, have ever come up with unique means of succession for when their rulers resign or die.
It seems the only two types of succession are either being elected, either by council or citizens, or heriditary.
A few rare societies throughout history have used trial by combat, but hardly any have ever had to take any sort of test or trial to prove themselves worthy of being a leader.
Shouldn't our leaders have to prove themselves through some sort of gauntlet of challenges before they are considered worthy to rule?
Shouldn't a dictator or king choose the means of his own succession based on what is best for his nation or kingdom, not his children or dynasty?

In general, what are the three things a ruler needs to be in order to be an effective ruler?
He needs to be wise, he needs to charismatic, and he needs to fit. FDR might be remembered as a great ruler, but if it were not for the fact that television had not been invented yet, I doubt people would have put much faith in a cripple, and seen it as a sign of an ailing nation.
The Primaries and election are a gauntlet.
After all, the president's number one job is to be the spokesman for an otherwise amorphous mass of civil servants, elected officials, and generals.
>>1945910
In much the same way that electing Hillary, a cuckold, was guaranteed to lose the Democrats the election, electing someone who is old or unhealthy to the white house is an outward display of power, or lack thereof.
Though there is one other trait we might want in a ruler, and that is compassion. Of course, too little compassion can be dangerous, but too much can be just as dangerous, if not more so. A leader must have just the right amount of compassion and virtue so that he is able to do his job, but unwilling to cause needless suffering and ensure his nation will prosper.
Is he the greatest modern thinker?
>>1947073
He was a goddamn retard. His master plan for getting back at all those people he felt slighted him was thwarted when nobody answered the door he knocked on.

Let's talk about the Mexican Revolution (1910 - 1920) since no one ever really does. I'll be honest, I don't know much about except quite few people died. What do you have to say /his/?
>>1946866
>What do you have to say /his/?
Fundamentally misguided event that cemented Mexican ruination for 70 fucking years. The best part about modern Mexico is that it's closer to Diaz's plan than anything the revolution stood for.
Mexico went through the warlords period of China.
Ultimately the socialist group won, nationalized the counties resources. Nativist groups like the Zapistas still exist today, defending native lands and rights to their way of life.
>>1946866
>Madero starts the movement
>Diaz left the power
>Madero is elected president but have a weak personality and try to rule with all the Diaz´ generals and ministers
>eventually Madero is betrayed by the general Victoriano Huerta who takes the presidency and the conflict starts again
>the socialists won but the true popular heroes like zapata or villa are betrayed by general Carranza.
>at the end, (1917) Venustiano Carranza took the power and makes the actual mexican constitution predominantly socialist
>Carranza allows a terrible corrupt culture in the new goverment which still prevail these days
>for the next years till 1929 the presidents where military heroes
>Jose Vasconcelos is elected president but Gral Plutarco Elias Calles makes fraud in the elections and took the presidency
>Vasconcelos calls to a new revolution but people where just tired as fuck of war
>the PRI (a political party) is born and rules the country the next 70 years
What happened to the Mycenaeans? How does a powerful civilization end like that end with no record.. Side question, why doesn't Diomedes get the fame he deserves, he is clearly the best hero in the Iliad.
>>1946576
Boy love drove them to extinction
>>1946576
>powerful civilization
they were just a collection of warlords and pirates. and we do have records for them in Crete. Look up Linear B.
>>1946900
>records for them in Crete
You mean their invasion of Crete?
>>1946420
Nope.
The big mistake of modern democracy is just handing citizenship to everyone.
Meanwhile Ancient Democracy, citizenship has responsibilities
>Ok you citizen now.
>Ergo you have responsibilities such as answering the call to arms, periodic military training, and government service in times of emergency.
>What's that, you don't want to? No citizenship for you then.
In addition it has nation state memes. So you're born a fucking citizen. The ancients waited until you're an adult and saw if you can handle it.
>>1946420
I don't think you're going to get an answer that takes anything but a rosy-colored view of the past.
>>1946433
Like Rhodesia?
Escapism is a spook?
No, a spook is a figment, not simply anything imaginary.
>>1947380
I thought spools was specifically institutions like society and concepts like duty to that society that Stirner didn't believe in, probably because he had no GF.
>>1946273
Is an anime a spook? Because it's all escapism for me.
Why the fuck did Kant believe masturbation was immoral? I understand his views on sexuality with others, but I don't understand Kant's reasoning regarding masturbation being immoral.
>"a man gives up his personality when he uses himself merely as a means for the gratification of an animal drive"
This just seems ridiculous. In that case almost everything we do is self-objectifying and immoral, right?
It reveals Kant and the entirety of his philosophy for what it is: a moralistic sham.
>He takes Kant serious
>>1946186
Kant is pretty much required reading, even if he is ridiculous.
