Why did Mohammed sperg out against alcohol?
Probably got a whiskey dick during a visit to harem or something.
Why are you here?
Does this custom have any trace in the Middle East before the Islamic conquest?
AFAIK being protective and hijabing women was a semite custom previously estabilished, but I never heard anything about being against alcohol.
Can I get a non meme answer on why Martin Luther took those books out of the Bible?
>>1967373
He based his Old Testament on the Hebrew canon and those books were not there. Still included them as Apocrypha though.
>>1967380
So he essentially Jewified a Greco-Roman faith because he was too stupid to realize that church vernacular was in Latin or Greek for a reason?

Anon, I ...
I'm just curious, was there ever a time where were people as actively and as massively seeking out loneliness/avoiding human contact, as it is now? I think we all realize the causes, but what can be the consequences of this?
Sure there have always been hermits, friend.
However most of them were religious/spiritual people influenced by a calling that made them seek isolation to conduct their studies and not your average aspergers tard today rotting away his brain.
I think one of the main issues is that we are becoming way "too social" and need to take the Finland approach against this bullshit so they can have the healthy kind of autism.
>>1967275
But hermits were 0,2%. Now it is normal every day matter to avoid people.
The main issue is social networks, urbanization, human contact not being necessary anymore etc. I am just wondering what will be the effects this can have on society?
>>1967272
>people as actively and as massively seeking out loneliness/avoiding human contact, as it is now
I don't know where you live but this is not the case today. People are more sociable than ever because of numerous ways for communication.
What if Hitler and Napoleon coexisted in the same timeline? Would they be friend or foe? Would they be successful in unifying Europe?
>>1967210
Napoleon would consider Hitler a buffoon and slaughter him.
Napoleon was a Freemason and Hitler hated Freemasonry.
Napoleon emancipated the Jews. I seriously doubt the two would get along.
Pic from Fiore dei Liberi's Fior di Battaglia (MS Ludwig XV 13, Getty for friends)
The text says:
>>This sword can be used as a sword or a poleaxe, and should not be sharpened from the guard down to one hand’s-width from the point. The point should be sharp and the sharp edge should be about a hand’s-width in length. The roundel below the hilt should be able to slide down the blade to a hand’s-width from the point and no further. The hilt needs to be strongly made with a heavy pommel with well-tempered spikes. The spikes should be well-tempered and sharp. The front of the sword should be as heavy as the back, and the weight should be from three and a half to five and a half pounds, depending on how big and strong the man is and how he chooses to be armed.
Anybody here got any pic of some weapon like that? Talking about historical finds, but also reconstructions would be much appreciated

A special duelling sword, for a simpler example try http://www.zornhau.de/original-der-woche-4-original-of-the-week-4/
>>1967011
Got any idea on the purpose of the sliding ring on the blade?
It also seems to be depicted in Talhoffer, if I'm not mistaken. Or it this something completely different?
>>1966978
Arms & Armor purportedly made a custom one off, but I haven't been able to find pictures of it.
>>1967167
I read that the ring was just a handhold for halfswording or mordhau (which would make sense giving the all the spikes everywhere on the crossguard and pommel). It was just some forum post though, so take it with a grain of salt.
VERDUN FUCKING SHITS
makes me cry to think the jewel of french manhood was fully expunged after a systematic progression since the post-napoleon era, and fully succeeded after verdun.

Who is the greatest historical Greek commander and why? Can be anyone from the Bronze age into the modern day. I personally like Epaminondas. The battle of leuctra alone was genius.

I'm reading about the Punic Wars, and I have a question: why didn't the Mamertine mercenaries accept the protection of Carthage and turn to Rome?
I don't get it: they literally asked either Rome or Carthage to protect them from the Syracusans. Carthage offered to help them first, but the Mamertines refused the offer (despite having asked) and then went to the Romans to ask for their help, even though Carthage could have given them said help well enough.
Weren't they Italians? Also Rome was probably looking for a reason to get involved in Sicily.
They accepted Carthage helped and then got bored living under Carthage and turned to Rome.
>>1966186
>Weren't they Italians?
Yes, the Mamertines were Italians. But then, why even ask Carthage for protection in the first place, if they were going to refuse it?
>Rome was probably looking for a reason to get involved in Sicily.
I get that. The Romans only helped the Mamertines because it would give them an excuse to intervene in Sicily and would potentially allow them to counter Carthaginian influence in an area they thought their own and to perhaps also intimidate the independent Syracusans.
HOWEVER, it's the actions of the actual Mamertines I don't understand. Why ask Carthage for help, only to refuse their help for no real reason, and then turn to Rome? What could Rome offer them that Carthage couldn't? After all, Carthage intervened and agreed to help them!
What is the difference between Conquest and War of the four horsemen?
Also why is Conquest often replaced with Pestilence? Is this a classic bible distortion that happened over the years?
>>1966056
Because most people think that conquest is the same as war, which is an easy mistake to make
>>1966056
Conquest was replaced with pestilience since pop culture is too pants on head retarded to understand how imperialism is a bad thing.
Whilst war represents slaughter, perhaps edging on mindless, Conauest is the dominion of nations over others, perhaps not necessarily through that much bloodshed.
Conquest is when the men of the earth turn against each other and covet the other's arbitrary lines in the dirt. War is when they wish to slaughter the other for no end but to shed his blood.
But all the horsemen lead into each other.
Conquest begets War, War begets Famine, Famine begets Death.
>>1966070
Damn, I never knew that. That's pretty insightful.
What is your opinion on this man?
What would China be like had he won?
>>1965998
>What is your opinion on this man?
Incompetent in the extreme. Quite frnakly, it's a bit amazing he got as far as he did.
>What would China be like had he won?
Closer to what it was like in the late 20s and early 30s. The KMT only directly controlling a corridor running roughly from Chengdu to Shanghai, and the rest of the country under the control of various warlords with their own powerbases, who would pay him tribute as long as they were disunited. Sooner or later the unstable power base would fracture and China would be in for another round of warlordism.
>What is your opinion of this man?
Low. He wasn't anything special and survived only because of the Japanese. If I recall correctly, he was a Christian too, which is fucking weird and completely out of place in China.
>What would China be like had he won?
Taiwan. So not too bad.
