Why is it called the Protestant "Reformation" if they didn't reform the Roman Catholic Church? They just started their own. Shouldn't it be called the Protestant Rebellion? Or the Protestant Schism?
They were trying to
>>2414619
Why did they call it the Counter-Reformation if they weren't countering a reform? really boils the old noodle
>>2414651
Catholics called the "counter-reformation" the Catholic revival.
Cain did nothing wrong

>God would later come to accept and even mandate flour offerings
I think the problem is less vegan vs animal and more that the text emphasizes the "firstlings of his flock", Abel's best stuff, whereas there's no such indication for Cain's crop.

Well, guess what: It isn't.
>ask a capitalist how they would prevent monopolies forming in a true free market
>dead silence
Why do some people still believe in that incoherent ideology?
true free market is by definition free of monopolies. the government is one such monopoly
>>2411580
Almost all monopolies are a product of government corruption or interference.
>>2411580
I'm not a capitalist but government is by definition a monopoly.

>>2411574
He seems to be correct.
It is a fact that Capitalism is inherently unstable, unstable in the sense that jobs, stocks, investments etc. are always reallocating and going up and down.
As a result, communities suffer (the working class of which tend to be the biggest victims). This leads to Fascism as a sort of temporary solution, a re-establishment of old hierarchical values whilst there being no tensions between sectors of society but the problem herein lies in the fact such a thing cannot survive for long and requires a scapegoat to survive.

Why were Yuropeans such subhumans compared to the Romans? It took 1000+ years for Yurop to reach Roman level of technology again after the Roman Empire fell. Just what the fuck?
>It took 1000+ years for Yurop to reach Roman level of technology again after the Roman Empire fell
You're operating from a false premise, this absolutely did not happen
>>2418321
It absolutely did. We had inferior mining techniques to Rome even as far as the 19th century for example.

How do you respond? Remember, being a so called "American" or "European" is not a valid response. Use Biblical sources to justify your answer

whats next, my game of thrones nationality?
Allright, lads, I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to economical philosophy/politics, but I've had a thought recently and need an outside perspective to tell me why/if it's retarded.
So, imagine a return to mercantilism and guilds, but in a new, perverse, form. The goverment would hold official structures of "guilds", which constitue monopolitic control of a goods/service, but within which one retains a more free control. In simplicity, the goverment would hold a monopoly, WITHIN which an undefined number of actors would be given a free-er hand to act as independents, under the framework of the govermental monopolitic control. This would attempt a compromise between actor-controlled and goverment-controlled economies. Tell me what you think and feel free to ask questions if you wish I would expand on the idea. Pic not related.
>>2418794
First question: for what purpose?
>>2418808
To strike a balance between govermental and civil control of the economy, and to ultimately effectivise rules and enforcement of them on the civil actors within the system.
How are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac not this right now?
>fight in the first world war
>get fucked by Germans
>have a civil war
>lose a war with Poles
>lose many people during red terror and hunger
>fight in world war two
>lose the biggest number of soldiers
>still be a major superpower
How was it possible for Russia/USSR to remain so powerful after losing so many people? They were also majority male, so it was harder for their women to find a partner to have children with, which should make demograpgical situation even worse.
>>2418706

After WW2 there was something like 7 or 8 million less males than females.

Who is your favourite historical figure and why?
Personally, my pick is Justinian I simply due to the fact that against all odds, he managed to recuperate the majority of the Roman Empire while managing to fend off the huge Sassanid Empire.
Perhaps this is a bit of a meme answer, but I think Alexander was cool as fuck.
>>2418510
I can see Alexander being a lot of people's choice, but for some reason, I've always thought his father Philip II was a much more interesting character.
>>2418499
I like Justinian the Apostate. I always think about how great he could have made the Empire. Hell he could have even swayed Europe back into paganism or maybe some hybrid Christian pagan style (with more pagan emphasis then there is today).
He revamped the economy
Drove back filthy Persians
And he pulled of come pretty cool victories in battle.
>Augustus Net worth: $4.6 trillion
>Because he personally owned Egypt
These things are quite vague
the entirety of modern day egypt has a gdp of under 300 billion so how is owning it 2000 years ago worth trillions?
>>2418294
It was in better shape back then.
Could Alexander have actually kept all of this together if he lived?
depends on how centralised/decentralised the government would be I guess
>>2417896
Greeks could rule the world. Alexander did. He took a Greek army to the far Indus. There was nothing left to conquer; the world was his. But Alexander is dead. His empire is gone. And so we live in evil days; the free men of Greece have turned on each other, instead of their proper enemies: those who envy all the Greeks have done. Alexander must weep, if the dead weep. I will weep in his place, but I will also hope. The world turns; what was may come again. The Fates still spin the web of men's lives. So now, perhaps the gods wish Greeks to be great again. Perhaps a new Alexander will take up the sword, bring order where there is chaos, remake the world of men into a better place...perhaps...
