Humans are inheritely selfish
Prove me wrong
what does selfish mean?
Pathological altruism is a thing. Therefore no.
Humans are inherently a lot of things
Is he, dare I say it... /ourguy/?
>lead hundreds of thousand of Turks to their deaths
>pretty much singehandedly brought down the Ottoman empire
>then tried the same shit with Ataturk's newly formed state but Kermal saw through his lies and had him exiled
>and the best part is that he wasn't even a Turk
>his dad was from the Balkans and his mom belonged to a Greek Orthodox minority
This guy was basically Alcibiades reincarnated.
>>2468668
>He then went to Central Asia and tried to lead a pan-Turanist revolt against the USSR
it gets better every time
>>2468656
>Singlehandedly slit the throat of the ottoman empire
Confirmably /ourguy/

Can we be honest with ourselves and admit that Ancient Greek society was a shitty place to live in generally?
>Oligarchic slave society organized and ruled by a small upper stratum of ultra rich estate owners who have sole control over the cities governance
>Cities prone to chaos and mobs under democracy, random killings and brutality under a despot
>Live in constant worry over invasion or raids from rival city states
>Women completely stripped of any agency or rights to anything
>Pedophilia and Homosexuality rampant among all social strata
>Subject to invasion from northern or eastern barbarians constantly
>Can hardly travel because of brigands and piracy
>>2467534
All ancient places were shitty to live in. Modern places twenty years ago were shitty to live in for that matter. And if you lived fifty years from now life today would be hell for you too.
It's an "Ancient Greece" just means anything from the Solonic Reforms until the Battle of Corinth rather than Greece throughout all antiquity episode
>>2467537
>fifty years from now life today would be hell for you too.
The 1960s were not hell on earth
What is the most interesting time period in history to study?
Bronze Age everything.
European Middle Ages.
>>2467412
Late antiquity easily
>Massive migrations that ultimately gave birth to modern Europe
>Fall of WRE, ending antiquity in the West
>Rise of Islam, killing Persia and cutting the balls off the ERE, ending antiquity in the East
>Permanent severing of the Mediterranean cultural unit
It was a monumental paradigm shift whose impact can still be seen today.
World War 1 era
Why do humans have an irrational fear of cockroaches?
They are not disease-carriers, they don't bite or suck blood (And thus no effective means to spread disease or parasites), the worst case scenario of harm coming from these creatures is food poisoning if they walked over your food. This is a walk in the park compared to things like Malaria or other harmful diseases from Mosquitoos and other insects, yet people don't give a shit about those.
>>2467386
who the fuck is scared of cockroaches
>>2467386
Did you mean disgust instead of fear?

Would we still be in the stone age without Christianity? It massively accelerated rational human thought and development, and made Europe the superpower of the world for hundreds of years.
We were well past the stone age and still moving forward by the time Christ came around.
Europe was a superpower before Christ, Europe was a fractured shithole after Christ; Europe then went on to become an even greater superpower than it was before Christ came.
The question is mostly irrelevant. Although I'd argue that Christianity has been a positive introduction to European history, saying it steamrolled European civilization is partisan and untrue. It belongs with armchair conservative historians who believe that science and the abolition of slavery were the direct results of Christianity, and were only achieved because of its introduction.
>>2467279
No. Europe made Christianity relevant, not the other way around. Latin America, and some African countries are Christian and they're shit holes.
Why did the South stay defeated? I'm thinking that they either respected the North too much to be sore losers (honor codes), they were united and fell together even though they thought they were distinct states, or they simply didn't have enough men to man a resistance, but maybe five years later, young men who saw their older brothers killed by the North sought vengeance by creating the KKK.
>>2467239
Because Sherman and his merry band of looters pillaged all they came across for one, they'd been under naval blockade for a couple years, most fighting age men went to go fight, and because theit economy was based on slavery and once that was taken away they didn't really have much to do besides farm
>>2467246
But I mean like why wasn't there an immediate resistance? Contrast to the Iraq war, which had a pretty fast turn around.
>>2467239
Because they got their revenge by killing Lincoln
>It was narrated from ‘Imran ibn Husayn that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “I looked into Paradise and I saw that the majority of its people were the poor. And I looked into Hell and I saw that the majority of its people are women.”
What did Brohammed (pbuh) mean by this?
>>2466855
women don't care for spiritualism and virtue as much as men.
>>2466855
How can they be in hell if women have no souls?
>>2466855
Thats not even the same girl
Would it be autistic to go everywhere dressed as a Roman soldier? Do you think people would make fun of you or even beat you up? Maybe even send you to jail?
I went to Diocletian's palace in Split last summer and there were dudes dressed as Roman soldiers. Got me thinking.
>>2466493
>there were actors dressed as Romans at a Roman place
>does this mean it's ok to dress as a Roman at the Trafford Centre?
Yes, turbo autistic.
>Would it be autistic to go everywhere dressed as a Roman soldier?
Yes.
>Do you think people would make fun of you
Yes.
>or even beat you up? Maybe even send you to jail?
Doubt it, but probably also depends on where you live. You might get in trouble walking around with a sword though.
>I went to Diocletian's palace in Split last summer and there were dudes dressed as Roman soldiers. Got me thinking.
I had a job once where I worked as a reenactor. So I'd be walking around in a napoleonic war uniform. Lots of people wanted to take pictures and ask questions, a few people sniggered at me or had a laugh at my expense, nobody ever assaulted me. Bayonet probably helped as a deterrent, though.
If you were dressed as a Roman in a city that has nothing to do with the Romans you'd probably get more weird looks, but most people would assume you were on your way somewhere like a convention, play, etc.
>>2466493
That and a lot of places might have an issue with you walking around with a sword.
Should humanity unite?
>>2465990
yes
>>2465990
Describe what you mean by "unite"
What is an united humanity
>>2465990
humanity is a spook
We all know that the eastern front has the majority of fighting in WW2, but which theatre had the most aesthetic feel to it?
Has to be Normandy right?
>>2464726
>WW2 thread No.2464726

Eastern front was the most aesthetic for sure

Eastern front desu.
Why was China able to successfully reform its economy starting in 1978, but the USSR just fell to pieces in 1989 instead of doing the same thing?
Because the Russians killed their Deng Xiaoping.
>>2464150
Socialism....
with Chinese Characteristics.
>>2464150
Because the Chinese are really good at numbers fuckery while Russia is under so much scrutiny that a single missed decimal point will have foreign watchdogs screeching from the rooftops.
Why does everyone like Stirner on here? Being a selfish prick all the time isn't exactly a feasible philosophy when dealing with life and other people.
In fact it just makes people hate you more.
>>2464035
Good thing I don't interact with other people.
It's just a vocal minority.
Everytime he shitposts, we put him in his place.
>>2464045
CS Lewis is a hack
>>2464035
If you've actually read Stirner you would knwo he doesn't advocate for "being a selfish prick all the time". But you haven't, you're just another wikistorian shitting up this board.
