Is there anyone who does it better than Dan Carlin?
Serious question
QUOTE

What book should I read? Are you implying Dan Carlin doesn't read books? These are serious questions by the way.
Our guy Lloyd
Tell me about 1979, /his/.
Wikileaks twitter says:
Vault 7
Year Zero
"If any year could be said to be the ‘year zero’ of our modern era, 1979 is it,” Julian Assange wrote in a statement on the WikiLeaks website. "In 1979 it seemed as if the blood would never stop. Dozens of countries saw assassinations, coups, revolts, bombings, political kidnappings and wars of liberation."
"The invasion of Afghanistan by the USSR would see Saudi Arabia and the CIA push billions of dollars to Mujahideen fighters as part of Operation Cyclone, fomenting the rise of al-Qaeda and the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union," Assange said.
"The rise of al-Qaeda eventually bore the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, enabling the US invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq and over a decade of war, leaving, at its end, the ideological, financial and geographic basis for ISIS."

Seems like an arbitrary assignment of significance to a year that's nothing very special on an anthropological timescale.
>>2467992
Ok, anthropological yeah, but as far as modern society goes...?
1979 seems as an ordinary Cold War year.
Hey /his/, I inherited my grandfather's Missal he received when he was young, around 1953. I was wondering if you guys could recognize the image on the front cover. All I can gather from it is a bishop presenting something to a nobleman. Pic related.
>>2467894
Sorry about picture quality, it came from my phone
>>2467894
honestly bro try reddit, they are better suited for this type of stuff
>>2467952
I'll see what they have to say, thanks
Did he do anything wrong?
Yeah, his policy of mercy during the civil war left alive his future assassins. His "Anti-Cato" was unnecessary and made him look small. He trusted Antonius,
he forgot to activate his protagonist plot armor
the bible was never created for you, it was never written towards Europeans
it was written for dark/brown and black skin bodies.
so you guys historically were never part of the christian picture
It's another /pol/tard roleplays as an sjw thread
The Christianization of Rome and north Europe is actually an incredibly fascinating subject, even outside of the study of religion itself. Also mediterraneans aren't black you dumb shit, you're thinking of West Africans and saudis.
The real answer is that it was the infrastructure of Rome that allowed for culture to spread unilaterally throughout the former empire's territory and beyond, as well as the sovereignty and recognition that being christian brought to leaders which led them to increasingly support expansion of churches, observation of christian events, etc. to their subjects. Also the work of devoted missionaries who saw it as their holy duty to live peacefully among pagan cultures and plant the seeds of acceptance very early on
Is the common man becoming more self aware?
I think it may be the opposite, actually. Commoners seemed much more self-aware 200 or even 100 years ago than they do today.
Humans are self-aware by nature.
>>2467771
In what regards, though?
People might not know they're commoners today, but with the privileges we have compared to then is what would be considered self-awareness even relevant in terms of average intelligence?
What happened to dragons?
The knights slew them all.
>>2467756
Knights couldn't even handle slaying Islam, no way did they kill all the dragons.
>>2467747
Brave men killed them all
Middle school: Christianity was evil. The dark ages were because of the church and no science even happened XD
High school: The church was ACTUALLY great, they were the heirs of the roman empire and kept sacred a lot of greek knowledge. If you disagree you're just an edgy atheist
College: Although the Church did preserve much ancient knowledge, and subsequent gains made in thought came 'out' of the church's past thought, there is absolutely no denying the degrees to which the roman Catholic church suppressed knowledge that was outside of themselves. If edge lords and dissenters like John the Scot didn't do anything, we might still be living in theocracy

Any examples of historical figures overcoming great controversies about their character or personal past?
A King who was once a poor thief or an Emperor that once was caught shitting by a crowd of onlookers. Something really embarrassing.
Please stick to 25+ years.

How did the HRE JUSTed itself so much? When and how did it start turning into a clusterfuck?
The Holy Roman Empire was the greatest institution that has ever existed in the European continent.
If it disappeared, it was because it was too good for its world.
>>2467089
HRE was designed by Elohim to punish Germans for being pieces of shit. So, from the beginning
>>2467089
>was the opposite of centralized whilst still counting as some sort of union
>hundreds of ethnically diverse states, kingdoms and independent cities that held no concern for one another
>emperor became increasingly weakened as a position
>inbreeding among royals was so bad it caused famines, wars and corruption because of handicaps
>tfw no Rome
>being the HRE was mostly a title people killed for that has no effect
>created the basterd region that is latin america and raped, pillaged and burned what little civilization there was
it was ok
ITT we post foods and dishes that had historical relevance. Bonus points for staples of life.
Pic related is garum, a condiment or sauce used by greeks and romans. It's basically fermented fish intestines and smaller fishes with salt and various spices namely oregano.
It was so popular among romans due to their fish heavy diet that garum factories were quite popular. The smell that would come out of those factories must have been the most gut wrenching shit ever. Imaging living next to one and waking up every morning to the smell of rotting fish guts.
Breakfast food created to pillory a race traitor or some shit in the Song Dynasty. Originated in the south so you don't really see this reflected in Japanese or Korean cuisine.
>>2466976
Pic related is one of those garum factories. The square holes would be where they would leave the mixture to ferment for about a day.
Native american didn't farm wheat but would make flour out of boiled and roasted acorns to make bread. I'd try to make some myself but we don't have acorns where I live.
