Any good color e-readers out there? I've heard mixed things- is the technology really stalled?
Has anyone ever made an e-reader based on the Ben-Day principle?
>>55226298
For those of you who don't know, most color e-readers either use 5 different colors of e-ink in each pixel, which results in faded color and a fuzzy image, or with color filters controlled by a chip over a monochrome display that consists of black and white electronics.
My idea is to use 4 different layers under each screen, each with only only color electron- white.
A black layer is on the bottom, and it's physically colored black, and the pixels with white e-ink electronsare either positively charged or negatively charged- so the pixel is either "off" which is default black, or on which is white.
Above that is a physically yellow filter, with white eletronics, so the image is either yellow, or white.
Then Magenta over that, which is either magenta or white. Then cyan, which is either cyan or white.
So instead of the e-ink giving the color, the e-ink removes the color.

Wat?
Summer's here and I'd like to brush up my programming skills before going to college. I'm inclined to start reading SICP. It has great reputation, I've read some reviews, but I'd like to know what the real (1) /g/entoomen who've read it think about it.
(1) - Screw the shitposters.
>>55226247
>implying anybody on /g/ has read/has the ability to read a 600 page book
>>55226247
It's a good book. This book, and I guess Scheme/functional programming in general is great for learning about functions as first class objects, and about doing things recursively.
I'd recommend using the DrRacket IDE, but with R5RS (or similar) as the language instead of Racket.

Didn't read any of those books though.
Which aftermarket gtx 1070 should I get? What's the best manufacturer?

can't wait a month can you?
Audiophiles subtly and cheekily blown the fuck out.
>There are a few ways to avoid the extra distortion:
>A dedicated ultrasonic-only speaker, amplifier, and crossover stage to separate and independently reproduce the ultrasonics you can't hear, just so they don't mess up the sounds you can.
https://xiph.org/%7Exiphmont/demo/neil-young.html
As a pretty established audio engineer, it baffles me that those fuckers buy 'better' equipment to reproduce the music than it was originally even recorded with. Especially when it comes to one-point classical recordings.
>>55226229
It's a major delusion. The only way I can explain it is:
>hmm, i need something to feel superior and elitist about
>let's become an audiophile
Of course that doesn't fully explain how they can delude themselves and ignore all the scientific proof that they're experiencing placebo effects. Maybe they do realize that, but they're too far into it and admitting it would be an embarrassment.

Is listening to voice best for testing speakers?
What is the most effective steps that someone who is not technologically gifted can easily follow to obtain maximum security against hackers?
What I can think of is,
1. Use Linux or Mac OS. Avoid Windows.
2. Do not install what you do not trust: Common Sense 2016.
3. Do not connect to suspicious networks.
4. ...
Please expound on this list. Keep adding entries you can think of.
I will make the end result of the list into pastebin.
Then we can just give the link to newbies who come here crying asking for tech support.
Let's go.

Yes, the main reason I started using Linux if because I got pwned. When I already was on Linux I got craaazy and downloaded everthing I could because it was retard easy and very safe. Even connecting to other networks was relatevly safe, IF you have hardened your browser.
So I would advice.
1. Get Linux.
2. Get Firefox addons.
>>55226156
1 & 2 are the same thing.
>Don't trust or install malware/windows because common sense, and use osx / install linux because common sense.
hey /g/uys,
could you suggest java books for a c++ developers?
can't really think of a textbook that has an angle for C++ developers. nor can i think of a reason why you would need one. Should be good to go with any textbook fammo as it will be the familiar C syntax you know and love. If you are starting fresh with Java I'd recommend to approach it learning Java 8. Java 8 in Action is a textbook I used to learn the Java 8 stuff and it should be good for someone new to the Java world.
Also next time consider checking the wiki first or posting in the "Questions that don't deserve their own thread" which should always be up (current one is here: >>55220943)
Have a good day anon

Hello /g/
So I just to third world country and found a mini laptop in my room I just finished disassembling it (I attempted to turn it on and to charge it but nothing would work)
I'm a mech. Eng. And have very little knowledge when I comes to software and an average knowledge on hardware (computer)....
So what should I do...
Sorry for my grammar mistakes...
I'm typing on my phone and I'm very tiered (jet lag)

Find the owner and send it to him in the current state.

I don't know whose it is
And its too late
I think he must of assumed it was broken so he left it ...
I was scared it was a bomb when I was disassembling but my curiosity got the best of me

how can i get the OSD to display when I'm not in a game. It gives me peace of mind when to always have my temps monitored.
MSI Afterburner -> Make temps show in notification bar
>>55225971
hmm ill see if i can find out what u r talking about
>>55225971
thats just a tiny # in the tray displaying the GPU temp. BHonestly i want to see the CPU temp primarily but I prefer the temps off all the components up in the corner like I can with Rivatuner.,..
So if /g/ likes Richard Stallman, even if it is on an ironic-unironic spectrum, how come you guys use non-free linux distros.
>>55225902
This is a serious question. I see a lot of people running arch, debian, or ubuntu but none running blag or ututo. Does no one on this board care about truly free software?
>>55226054
I unironnicaly (?) care about it, except nonfree JS, I use Trisquel.
>>55225902
I, for one, like and try to stick more often than not to what RMS says, because he is right in so many aspects, but, when functionalty comes into play we end up crashing with that wall that says: Hey you are not a emeritus phd doctor who travels around the world giving lectures and sleeping in followers couches.

Who the FUCK thought pulseaudio was a better idea than alsa? Just fuck these hacks. Back to slackware I go.

/g/, how come pacman's upgrade process is very quick, but apt's is very slow? It's the one thing holding me back from Debian.
>>55225744
>pacman
>just fuck my shit up mang, who cares about dependencies? upgrade everything!

>>55225771
PPPPPPPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! Oh shit! I haven't laughed that hard in ages.
Its because pacman is an efficiently made program with superior logistics and organization compared to apt.
It's like trying to empty a water bin with a hose and pump vs using a straw and manually sucking.
I think this movie really nails how life in the tech world really is. are there more /g/ approved movies?
idiocracy
this movie really highlights how irrelevant intelligence is for survival
technological advances can truly come to a halt and not much would change
Jobs.
>>55225738
what do you expect should change? technological progress is not necessary but increases chances for survival (of the species) in the long run. for the longest time in human history there was only a really slow progress. realistically, we could stall for 10000 years and nothing would change.
