Has /g/ ever repaired a cassette deck? Should I consider taking the actual deck open or are there too many parts to assemble again?
>>55212490
Just do it don't be a fag.
Taking something apart is one of the simplest pleasures in life. If you take it apart without breaking something then you'll get it back together again.
this has smth like 100 pieces take it to a expert
What's wrong with it? What isn't working?

>NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Selling Excellent, More Volume Shipped Than High-End Maxwell – Even Bigger Success Than The GeForce GTX 980 Ti and GTX 980
WHY PEOPLE ARE SO KEK?????
We'll compare the numbers of buyers of 1080's to 480's in the coming months. I highly doubt 1080 sales top 10% of 480 sales.
>>55212395
bte just because it sells more the 980Ti's does not mean it sold 'gazillions' of cards. It's still a 'premium' card. Overpriced at that. It's like saying Rolex watches or Ferrari's are selling like hotcakes.

Hey /g/, what is the recommended first programming language? I'm thinking about learning python. Thoughts?
>>55212076
I agree. It lets you explore concepts without getting bogged down in syntax. Good book choice too. I'd also recommend checking out hackerrank.com's python series
>>55212076
Obviously Python. In fact, that's probably the first and last language worth learning. I regularly program shell scripts, C, C++, Java, JS, and smali. There's only one language worth learning and convenient for day to day tasks (and can scale up to large programs too). Python.
>>55212076
Furthermore, fuck any other language. I made an MMORPG in Java and I do kernel programming in C. Python is a good language, the developers are autists though (read: don't go to Freenode and ask for help).

I have an 8gb partition that is not recognised by windows. Could it be the swap i created when installing linux?
>>55211264
why dont you check retard
>>55211264
Yes it could be, just fucking boot up a live CD and check.
Also swap? In 2016? Unless you use suspend mode there's no point.
>>55211794
Is swap necessary if I already have 16GB of RAM?

Ever tried to write code, or hell, anything longer than a paragraph on a 7" EEE PC? It's hell. and the 800x480 screen made me not even bother with X most of the time. And when i did need it i had a hot key to switch to 1024x768 virtual resolution and panned around so i wouldn't have issues with half my windows being too small/cut off on the bottom.
I would have felt ripped off if i had paid more than $15 for it.
OP is that network manager? Network manager is fucking SHIT for me on Arch linux
>>55211131
I did, but unlike you I have some standards.
So i'm pretty new to pc building and I was wondering if you guys have any idea what kind of parts I should buy? I have a budget at around $300-$400 I'm just afraid that if I buy all the parts myself i might screw something up also what parts I should do extra research on? Like the extra important and expensive parts

>>55211068
Extra research on CPU and GPU, I build a good rig earlier this month for £250, with an i5-2500 and HD7850

Is it possible to convert a remote Linux physical machine to a local virtual machine.
I insist on local because I tried VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone and it only allows me to drop the converted virtual machine on and ESXi
>>55210452
Just mount everything and rsync it into your virtual disk. You'll have to do extra shit to make it boot, but that's basically all you need to do.
>>55210452
Yes, but to do it live with a like-for-like is kind of insane.

Are there any open source web search engines?
There are intranet search engines, but crawling the internet would get you into hot water with your ISP. Even if you limited how fast you index everything, the information would be outdated by the time you were anywhere close to being done.
If only YaCy wasn't a piece of shit

I really thought it could become the next big thing way back then.
Age old quandry of upgrade old system or rebuild new one. My specifics serve only as a startoff for your thoughts and experiences.
What do you advise?
2010 i3 based system I built has been working faithfully non-stop but chokes out when I edit video.
I could get a used i7 chip for $100. I'd also consider investing in a new power supply.
OR, I could get a current gen i5-6500, Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 and some DDR4 ram.
On the one hand I could update the cpu and invest a little on a power supply and case OR keept my current case and power supply and buy new cpu, mobo & ram.
You could also get a newer GPU that offers support for h.265 encode/decode.
Cards that support this: 900 series/1000 series/400 series.
Honestly your CPU is always going to be "choked out" while video editing unless you buy something like a 6/8 core and only allocate 4 cores to the video editing process.
Newer intel iGPU's also support h.265 encode/decode as well albeit far slower than dedicated cards.
Personally, I would never get an i3 or an i5 for video editing

Did you hear the sound of me slapping my forehead all the way over there.

What's the oldest CPU that's still out there in service, doing something important? I'm guessing the Motorola 68000 is still out there in some useful form to this day, doing something vital somewhere.
>>55208852
I wouldn't be surprised if someone still had a legacy system running on ENIAC.
>>55208852
Probably pentium 4 is out there in a lot of places that cant ever upgrade from xp.
