Daily reminder that programming is a waste of time and a meme career. Only do it as a hobby, but don't make a career out of it. You will be disappointed, family.

Hi /g/uys.

I'm thinking of buying a new notebook which works well with linux (LMDE). Short story long, I was thinking on buying a Lenovo ThinkPad E460. The specs are

Intel Core i3 6100U (2300 MHz)
4GB DDR3L (1600 MHz)
LED 14.0" (1366x768)
6 cells (47000 mWh)
HDD 500GB (7200rpm)
Intel HD Graphics 520 (Integrada)

For a similar price I could get a Dell with better processor, more memory, same ram:

Intel Core i5 6200U (2300 MHz - 2800 MHz)
4GB DDR3L (1600 MHz)
LED 14.0" (1366x768)
4 cells
HDD 1TB (5400rpm)
Intel HD Graphics 520 (Integrada)

The cons for the dell are the reviews, the two I read said that it sucks, while the reviews for the lenovo are very positive. There is also an Asus that looks good, but there are no reviews for it (it is a southamerican new model, I couldn't find any comment on it) and I don't know how compatible are the Asus with linux. More expensive nb are really expensive for my pocket (these nb are already in my limit.)

As many linux users, I just use the notebook for latex, coding, Mathematica and watching porn.

What do you think of my choice?

the 'thinkpad' you have there would work fine, but it wouldn't be /g/ approved. we like the older ones with the better (relatively) keyboards but hotter processors.
If you like battery life and don't want to spend $700 for an x260, go for it.
get an SSD, though.

No hate here but why use LMDE over plain debian? debian comes bloated as heck as well and works.Or why arent you using ubuntu which is better.

I prefer the mint look but I like debian. Frankly there's no real reason aside from less work to make it look how I want and it has GUI's for anything as an alternative.

I remember how the first Pentiums were regarded as blast furnaces because they needed a 50mm fan on the heatsink, with their enormous 20-watt TDP.

Welcome to /fglt/ - Friendly GNU/Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

So my computer won't recognize two screens at the same time. The other one just won't show up at xrandr, instead it just says that it's disconnected. If I disconnect the one that works at boot, the other one will work instead, but not both at the same time. I've tried upgrading my drivers and messing around with Xorg.conf, but neither seems to help at all. Sometimes if I reboot a few times and mess around with the cables I get it to work. Is this just a GPU problem?
>>
>>56620134
What card?
What cables?
Try without an xorg.conf and/or use use an vidia config at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
