Why is open source software so atrociously ugly as shit? Ricing doesn't apply here to defend it.
Your bait is bad and you should feel bad.
>>56622979
No incentive
It is pretty simple: Programmers are not designers.
While the open source is great for software development, its advantages doesnt benefit software designers pretty much.
And since these open source software projects are often free of charge, they don't get enough money to hire a software designer.

I spent alot of time thinking about how to program in a more lazy way and here it is:

>This shit is easy as fuck to learn
>This shit is fast as fuck
>This shit can run on any computer, even old computers from the 1980's. You can get it down to less than a kilobyte.
This is some zen monk shit I pulled from the mountains, ok. Don't ask me how I found out about it. Just learn this shit and you will master a computer very quickly.

That link right up there ^ is the chatroom. These are some old dudes with beards. Just ask them shit.
What does it do? What can I make
>>56622981
well for one you can make a better operating system
>>56622986
Alright. I'm not that smart though. Is it hard?
i was at work reviewing a procedure with a coworker. he doesn't know how to code, mind you. i wrote a bash script to perform a certain task crucial at work for us. i've done similar things in the past before. this time, he turns to me and says "you're automating too many things!"
>>56622960
The worst is "I don't do computers" or "computers are not my thing"

>I don't do computers
while computers may be your fetish, they don't give me a hard disk.
Why do you care if the government records your calls and profiles you?
You could have cheese pizzazz on your comp and you wont be penalized.
All they care about are the distributors, killers, and the powerful. They dont give a rats ass about some neckbeard fapping to loli while crying about privacy and promoting linux
but headless snow anime grill think of the privacy
Then you're okay with hd surveillance cameras in every part of your house including your bathroom .
You have nothing to hide right
>>56622948
It's actually not the government I'm really worried about.
What does /g/ use to clean second hand electronics?
>>56622895
Just disinfectant wipes, I'm not usually as thorough as I should be. The most thorough cleanup I've done was an old apple keyboard with a large-print sticker on every key and plenty of dust+grime - I took off all the keycaps and soaked them in hot water to get the stickers off, then went over the whole thing with the wipes.
I also got a PS2 slim that was unfortunately kid-owned. Those controllers definitely needed a bit of scrubbing, but the console was already pretty good. The inside was less dusty than I expected, too.
I always have a jumbo pack q-tips and a bottle of isopropyl on hand. For large surfaces just windex and paper towels. Compressor in the garage for general dust.
If it's a particularly nasty one I'll use latex gloves.
old toothbrush, clean it off, dip it in alcohol, brush the filth away.
i have a weird fetish for trying new browsers out. just wanted to bring this one to /g/'s attention and get y'alls openinion on it.
It is only available for desktop on Windows at the moment: http://polarityweb.weebly.com/windows.html
It comes with some nice built-in features such as tab sleeping, night mode, built-in proxy/vpn, privoxy, adblocking, picture-in-picture and more.
this might sound like a shill thread but im not telling you to install it and im not saying its good. i just wanted some opinions.
Sounds pretty good desu. What does it look like?

Today Google actively took measures to thwart users of Noscript; I have no proof, though.
I wasn't, I'm not, a huge fan of systemd but it seems to be the way forward. Does Devuan or any other systemd resistant distros really have a chance of large scale, especially commercial, acceptance? I don't think so.
>>56622314
No, they don't, but that doesn't mean community distros that eschew systemD won't be viable for quite a while yet. No need to shove your cock in a blender any sooner than you have to.
>>56622314
socket activation is really cool though
>>56622314
It isn't the way forward, though.
I had one of these in the house when I was a baby but when we moved to America it vanished.
Depressing.
Although these days I can't operate without a mod key.
Just get a Unicomp Classic 104
Same shit (literally same factory) but with windoze keys added
>>56622313
>Although these days I can't operate without a mod key.
Literally Ctrl+Esc
>>56623179
Only works to open the start menu.
Can't do any windows key shortcuts (Win+R, Win+D, etc) with it.
Literally useless
>you have exceeded your monthly data cap
We're only halfway through September. Why is this allowed?
>>56622247
>monthly data cap
>>56622247
How can Americans live with data caps, no bidets and call themselves a first world nation is way beyond me.
>>56622247
I got this text today:
"BSTFreeMsg You're at a 75% Threshold for data prioritization. At 100% you'll be prioritized lower at congestion times-See boostmobile.com/networkmanagement"
Never gotten it before. Been downloading hundreds of gigs the last few months and never got this text but have a new phone. Anyone with boost know how bad they 'deprioritize' in terms of speed? Also should only be peak hours but now I'm nervous
Anyone here use/maintain Solaris? Despite the fact it's expensive to get support and updates, it's a pretty stable system that I use at work. ZFS is great and UFS is okay on Solaris 10.
I like it a lot better than Red Hat because most dependencies don't require you to have subscriptions or support and you can snag them from pretty much any repository.
I haven't tried Oracle Linux yet, but I can't image it's much different aside from convention.
I thought it died years ago. Huh.
It died for me once it stopped shipping with CDE.
>>56622146
Never saw the point in running from one vendor that controls you to another one
Plus something about an entire DE written in fucking Java just gives me the willies
Following advice from /g/ I just deleted OSX and installed Linux Mint
It is good so far but I... sort of was expecting a challenge, Linux Mint is too easy. I feel like I've mastered this part of Linux already. So I'm going to move onto a more challenging distro now
which one is harder Arch or Gentoo
>>56622068
>Following advice from /g/
But you didn't install gentoo
>>56622068
Arch but it's not really hard either. It just takes work to build.
>>56622068
>listening to /g/
Enjoy the downgrade.
>water cooler
>all the cooling is done by a heatsink and fans
O_o
The water/liquid is the vehicle to transfer the heat away.
>>56622038
Water is for transferring the heat from the heat source to the radiator.
>>56622055
The key/board is the vehicle to transfer the intellectual comment away.
svchost.exe been inordinately busy for anyone else, lately?
i'm guessing a recent win update enabling some telemetry or some shit. what's the quickest way to find out which of the services in the tooltip is using up so much cpu?
>>56622032
looks like something in there is listening to be served by choice.microsoft.com, which quick search shows to be some kind of adserver feeding their products.
not sure why it would take up so much cpu, tho.
i have to busy myself with something else, but will try this, when i can
http://www.wintips.org/how-to-fix-svchost-exe-netsvcs-memory-leak-or-high-cpu-usage-problems/
Yeah it's called look at the threads tab. Run Process Explorer as Administrator if the service names don't show up.
Everything's working fine for me on Windows 10, by the way. ;^)
