I have a computer with a Radeon HD 4800 series for the GPU and an Intel Duo Core 2 as the processor. What should I expect when I get my i7 6700k Skylake computer with a GTX 1070 Gigabyte GeForce?

I don't really need a touchscreen either but you can't get the OLED screen with the carbon unfortunately.

Why do people use taskbar on bottom of Windows? Placing it on the right is the most logical way.
>Left: keyboard can get in the way of your mouse as you try to reach for the taskbar
>Top/bottom: bad placement for reading in general
moving eyeballs downwards is much easier than moving eyeballs to the right.

Why do people keep reinventing programming languages with the same features?
ideology
>>57536129
Because they are too dump to realize that all this effort should rather go in proper frameworks for C.
can you give an example of two languages with all the same features?
Okay, so I'm going to be blunt. I'm great with computers, as that's pretty much all I spend my free time on. I type fast, know the ins and outs of essentially every troubleshooting solution, and have no problem learning new things. I've been attending community college the past 3 years dabbling in pretty much every IT topic, but have a thorough understanding and lots of experience with Java/C++ programming. I should be graduating soon with an associate in applied sciences. During this time I've been working part-time at various fast food places to get through school, and the obvious plan is to get a job somewhere using my IT knowledge.
My problem is this: I have no knowledge of how to get my foot in the IT door, so to speak. My classmates were 90% gamerdudes who dropped out, and the ones that didn't will continue to seek further education. My professors were for the most part retired. Everyone I talked to about employment either had no IT experience or have been teaching for over 40 years. The one guy who did have experience said he got shoehorned into a database management role when he signed up for the military, despite having no background in computers/electronics when he was recruited.
So... How does one go about getting into the IT sector? Don't tell me networking, because it didn't help (or maybe I'm doing it wrong). Internships always seem to be filled or have requirements that are way the hell above my expertise. I'm beginning to think joining the military (navy or air force, fuck the army) might be my only hope, assuming they would utilize my experience in computers somehow.
What are your thoughts, experiences, and recommendations? Am I just shit out of luck or are there other avenues of employment I'm not aware of? I don't want to spend the rest of my life slaving over a grill while obese assholes scream out orders.
>>57535941
I figured this would be the best place to discuss such a topic, seeing as it pertains to technology for the most part.

Hey guys!
Just found my old Thinkpad, the 760ED. I ran NT on it when I was younger (got it from friends parents yeeeears ago).
Thinking about installing a featherweight linux distro and using it, any reccomendations?
It's pretty good though, Pentium 120MHz, 48Meg RAM, CD, TFT screen, several gig large hdd and a battery with about 40 minute life.. Also PCMCIA so I guess an old Orinocco wifi card will work?
>>57535686
I've been trying with my 380ED
Can't get shit to work with any distro I've tried, next to none have drivers for the old 1-1.25mb GPU chips in them and 48mb of ram isn't nearly enough to run any kind of acceptable UI
Danm small Linux was a good one for a bit but PCMCIA drivers are nonexistent and I was better off with Windows 98 for the sake of functionality
>>57535686
I have a 760E with Damn Small Linux on it, but I haven't used it for much. Just recently got around to reseating the connector for the display so it would stop cutting out randomly after having it sit in my closet for over a year so I might mess around with it more now. As for wifi, I'm pretty sure you're going to need to find an old 16 bit PCMCIA card instead of one of the more common 32 bit cards.

Install Solusâ„¢ anon. It's the only distro worth installing ever.
OpenSuse > Arch.
So fucking sick of Arch breaking sound. Every fucking other update broke my sound.
Opensuse never breaks anything, even on tumbleweed.
Bye arch. I hope you burn in hell.
Both are trash. Use Solus instead. It's user friendly and has all the options you powerusers love.
>>57535687
Budgie cannot support dual monitors, and it also has the sound issue.
>>57535695
>budgie cannot support dual monitors
seems to have no problem with mine
Why did they have to fucking ruin this?
If you didn't mess with any of that shitty optimization bullcrap and left it alone it was a super easy way to install drivers and alerted you subtly when new ones were available.
Now it has mapped keybinds that you can't disable (only remap), wow I'm sure glad gamers never need keybinds for games. And a shitty UI that nobody asked for and I had to make an account just to see how shitty it was.
WEW
>>57535437
>it was a super easy way to install drivers
Yeah because going to the website, downloading the drivers, running the install file, and rebooting sure was hard. we really needed to make that easier.
>and alerted you subtly when new ones were available
My computer should not interrupt me. No application should pop up a little thing in the corner of the desktop screaming "HEY! UPDATE ME!" If it's security-critical it should auto-update without ever making a peep, if it isn't, it should not make a peep and let me go check if there's a new version, if I'm interested in it. This is the latter case. The type of people who are interested in running the very latest-and-greatest driver will hear when new releases are made anyway.
so no, this is not a once-good application that was made shitty. This was a shitty application that was made shittier.
>>57535437

I live in arizona and I already have a survey conducted in my neighborhood to send to the ACC and FTC but I'm wondering if you guys know of ways of taping into mainlines to confirm noisebleed/signalleakage? and what the legality of that is, i assume it's very illegal to tap cables but if you aren't deciphering packets and only verifying stability is it still illegal?
What?

Is more than 2GB frame buffer for 1080p gaming a meme? Just upgraded my rig to a 6600k but kept my old 950 in there. I can still play Battlefield 1 at 1080p@60fps on ultra but want to upgrade it. Is upgrading to a 1050 or 1050ti a lateral upgrade or will I see good gains?

Is it wrong to live one's waking life on the computer and internet?
Fuck it's just so normal for myself now. I'm talking 15-16 hours a day regularly.
I feel literally addicted to having so much information/movies/books at my fingertips. ALL of this, obtainable within seconds.
I have literally grown up living on the internet, same today. I can't be alone.
>>57534906
are you happy, anon?
If it makes you sad, yes.
If you want to beat yourself into the shut-in culture, then no.
Be aware it takes up to 15 years to truly accept being a shut-in without depression, etc. This means no social outings, no friends. Nothing.
