Let's have a laptop thread!
What laptop do you currently have?
What laptop do you want?
Which laptops are total shit?
etc etc
>>57526824
disregard that, I suck cocks
I'm starting to think any laptop that's neither a ThinkPad nor Dell is bound to have shit tier Linux support. Can anyone confirm this?
Current: 2013 rMBP
Want: new rMBP
Shit: everything that isn't a rMBP

Is the 6600k and RX480 the build of the year?
In terms of value for money and longevity I'd say it offers more than the 1060 but next year we'll be getting a new amd cpu and probably cheapish ti versions of the nvidia cards
>>57526666
I guess so Satan.
Also open source drivers. I might snag a 480 gb for my 6600k system.
so I have some crappy rams and I'm building my dad a pc for browsing and watching movies and I wonder if it's better having 1 DDR2 800 of 2 GB installed or adding a ddr2 667 which will make the other work slower

whats the price ?
100% of my programming is now in python.
The language is fucking beautiful. Surely you guys can agree ?
>>57523215
Python is OK, but I have a hard time to grasp the Python logic:
Somtimes the methods are called with the object as parameter, sometimes you call an object-method. And it seems totally arbitrary which one it is:
"method([a,b,c])" vs. "[a,b,c].method"
Also why do you have to pass "self"? Would it hurt so much to provide "self" as (implicit) default object?
Last issue I have is this bad way they handle strings, constantly decoding/encoding bytes from/to unicode and you never really know which method to use, so it's mostly trial and error. This is unnecessary.
>>57523291
>"method([a,b,c])" vs. "[a,b,c].method"
This is a fucking good point. ";".join and len("str") is actually really dumb, never noticed.
>Also why do you have to pass "self"? Would it hurt so much to provide "self" as (implicit) default object?
I can see the logic in this. Its so class a can pass its own instance to another class.
>Last issue I have is this bad way they handle strings, constantly decoding/encoding bytes from/to unicode and you never really know which method to use, so it's mostly trial and error. This is unnecessary.
The "pythonic" way is to decode ASAP. You should always be working with unicode strings. 95% of the time you can just dox = x.decode('utf-8') if type(x) == bytes else x
If you're working with web facing code you're best to dotry:
x = x.decode('utf-8') if type(x) == bytes else x
except:
return
