assuming you've got a sata platter HDD and a 3.0 drive in a 3.0 port. in this instance random read/write would be faster. it almost certainly has a smaller index and if your machine is busy writing to the drive you'll experience less slowness for that reason as well.

When you enter the first first mark, think about what you are actually typing: a 6, a 9, AND a \n (hitting enter). cin will read the numerical part (69) but the non-numerical part is left in the buffer. So your next getline immediately reads a \n and stops, returning an empty string.

cin.ignore() will ignore a character in the input buffer.

Can we have a thread for discussing mini / portable distributions, distributions that run from RAM, and LiveCDs and LiveUSB? (Live BSD also welcome) I'm sure there are other anons out there who run GNU/Linux or BSD on a portable basis, especially you guys who have to access public computers but don't want to use Windows.

Some distributions that I know of off the top of my head:
Damn Small Linux (maybe discontinued, any pretty dated by now)
Tiny Core
SliTaz
Slax and Porteus
Puppy Linux and its many forks

A lot of mainstream distros have LiveCD/DVD images as well, although I'm not sure if their default configurations might not make them as practical for portable access.

I'm that guy but I unfollowed both Eli the computer guy and Louis rossman because they voted for Trump.
Both actually gave no reason as to why he was a better candidate.
Both just talked about how shitty Hillary was.
Both also knew that Trump was straight up lying to the American people when he was talking about the wall.
Again, they never said why Trump should be president.
If you want to protest vote then vote in a 3rd party.

Not much of a change but I think the price hike is acceptable considering Apple charges 100$/€ more for a storage upgrade.

I am looking for a tablet and I realized I have no idea how the tablet environment is.

Is it just like the smartphone market? idiots getting apple? Samsung churning uncomplicated standards?

Can someone recommend a tablet for the following:
- Reading and annotating (scientific articles)
- Watching movies in the train/plane
- Light gaming (like angry birds - light)

Are there even custom roms for tablets or are we doomed to be boted to china?

>Is it just like the smartphone market?
It's just a bigger phone. If you got an apple one then it's limited to netflix and browsing the internet.
Android ones can use some file manager suites and become mildly useful.

What /g/ think about Slackware?

>>
>>57526933

Manual dependency resolution isn't nearly as difficult as other anons make it out to be. Once you get past that, it's a nice distro if you're looking for something less bloated than *buntu or Arch.

Slackware is the first distro I successfully managed to install, so it was my introduction to GNU/Linux. Since I just recycle older harder instead of buying new machines, I rarely have any chips on hand with PAE support or whatever other features are needed to boot other distros, which of course is why Slackware worked out of the box for me.
>>
Interesting piece of Linux history, but doesn't serve much of a purpose now.
>>
>>57526933
It is a nice system, but not feature-rich or customizable to the degree that more general and more specialized distros are.

There are so much things wrong with your setup. Waste of space.

Anyway, to answer your question - it's light (Did you even look at the memory usage? Or did you just install it because it was praised?), you can theme the fuck out of it, and it supports a wide range of plugins.
>Windows 10
>Chrome
>Atom
>Steam
Are you sure you're not on the wrong board?
>>
>>57526552
Your setup doesn't look that impressive either. It looks like a lesser version of most media players.

>it's light

So is PuTTY, Discord, and a whole range of programs. You live in an age where 16GB RAM is standard in a rig, why are you worried about memory usage of a media player?

>you can theme the fuck out of it

You can do that to others as well to the same capacity.

>supports a wide range of plugins

So does anything with a FFMPEG plugin

Will DDR3 RAM work with an i5-6600k provided the motherboard supports ddr3 like the ASUS Z170-P D3?

Planning to jump from old and busted Ivy bridge to Skylake, but i got 16 gb of ddr3 RAM left over and really don't feel like investing all over for that to get ddr4
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>57526390
Yes but you might as well just go with DDR4. YOu are going to have to buy it eventually. No new platforms will support ddr3 at all.
>>
>>57526445
Thanks for the input, but the motherboard is something i consider upgrading once when the planets align to counter GPU bottlenecking. Now is such the case. And from what i saw, the difference in gaming is very much minimal between these two.
>>
>>57526390
My (limited) research shows that Skylake does not officially support DDR3 as long term use can damage its IMC.
