Have you been black friday shopping for computer parts before? it seems most people go after TV's and ps4's, but would it be hard for me to snatch a few parts for good deals?
while we're talking about black friday..
where are other places to buy my tech other than amazon? i live in canada.
there aren't many stores around here worth going to for computer stuff, most of the good deals are online. i did go to target once for a cheap external hd, yea, i am NEVER going out on black friday again, what a fucking shit show.

Story?
Or was it just completely disappointing?
I'm in a FUCKING RETARDED industry that uses windows servers for anything.
Wondering if anybody else is looking at Windows server 2016, is it good? It seems to run a lot better than 2012 anyway (Except fucking IIS)
Cool video https://www.youtube.com/raeUiNtMk0E
Any thoughts /g/?
You're probably enough of a retard that you'll never figure it out anyway. Probably in the right industry.
2016 is pretty good.
>>57548215
Link's broken, bro.
I'm playing around with Server 2016, but the main feature I'm interested in is nano server. It looks comparable to a proper linux minimal install, which is the fucking bomb. Glad MS is finally going down this route.
Only problem is nothing fucking supports it yet. I'm looking forward to a glorious future where application vendors just offer VM appliances or containers to run their application servers in, instead of requiring some bullshit "Only runs on Server 2008 not R2, also can't be Server Core" abortion of an application.
Literally half the time I spent working on configuring and deploying a Citrix Xenapp server was trying to sort out the fucking licensing nightmare for Windows Server, Citrix Server, CALs for both of them and additional licensing for Windows that was needed for Remote Access. And then another Windows Server license to run the Citrix Licensing server....
And I want to deploy more linux servers but that means bossman can't hire dirt-cheap former Geek Squad idiots to do the help desk/tier1 support jobs since Linux knowledge commands a decent salary in the bay area, which bossman doesn't want to pay.
Everybody knows Windows and MS made their Server run with a Windows desktop GUI, so most server babbys can navigate themselves around it fairly easily and repair basic things. Drop them into a shell-only system and they freeze, though. Even knowing PowerShell is a huge benefit for job finding.
I swear to god, I don't know how any of these fucking servers ran before I got here. Apparently they've been using GUI-only on the servers here for like 15 fucking years. Nobody knew PowerShell, much less bash or linux. Did you know that MS requires license CALs on top of Server CALs for estimated users on a DHCP server? I do. Because we had a single DHCP Windows VM and apparently 255 fucking CALs for it to serve a single subnet.

>tfw can't find a linux t1/help desk job
gee America, why does the Bay Area get all the nice things?
I very much agree that powershell is nice. I only wish there were more linux-like aliases for commands and their switches to help with the transition.
Frequent reminder: Your case filters probably have some dust building up on them, you should clean them. Also remember to lightly dust the inside of your case! It feels good to clean.
If you aren't using filters, you should be you fucking scum.
If you are smoking at your computer, you should be disgusted with yourself and reevaluate your actions.
D-don't forget you can post your g-guts if you want~~
Sometimes I stick a football pump needle on various orifices on my laptop and blow, there's a noticeable amount of dust that comes out. Should I open it up and clean it thoroughly, or is that good enough?

Alot of futurist are confident that the Technology singularity will happen in the next 30ish years.
If this is true then until then...

I'll be in my early 50s by then.
Should I just keep myself alive until then and follow my dreams while I can? Because none of that shit will matter when the day hits.

hey /g/ I need your help;
I'm trying to build a PC, but I have one offered for $1,250. I wanted to know if it's a good deal or I should just build my own for around the same price even slightly more. I'm looking for a high end for no more than $1.5k CDN. Anywho, here are the specs I'm being offered:
ASUS Z97-E / USB 3.1 motherboard
Core i7 4790k Haswell LGA 1150
Corsair Vengeance Pro (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz C9
MSI GTX980ti Gaming Nvidia
Intel SSD 240gb
Seagate 500gb 7200rpm HDD
CS650M Semi modular 650w PSU 80+ GOLD
all inside a NZXT Phantom 410 Black Case (built in 3-speed fan controller)
Windows 10
It uses deprecated technology. Haswell cpus are ancient and a 980ti is a laughable proposition.
>>57547717
It might be somewhere near worth what youre being asked but its value will begin to drop rapidly. Although it used to be top of the line its still from the old generation.
It depends.
On one hand, the actual cost of everything new is roughly around $1100 for those parts, but in used condition it is around $800 or so.
The 4790k is a solid processor, but you will be stuck on 1150 and cannot upgrade past it since everything now is using 1151. The 980 Ti is a solid card and is comparable to the GTX 1070, but it depends on if it is used or not.
Honestly, for that price you might want to build your own if it is used. New it isn't too bad of a value, but you can still get something more recent with your cash.
Need to get a LR WiFi Antenna. Just wondering which ones /g uses and/or recommends. I have been rifling through Amazon reviews for the past 2 hours but I can't seem to make a decision. I figured /g would have some insight. Would love to hear your opinions.
FYI, I live 10 min outside of Philly. So there are lots of trees and other stuff that could interfere with one that requires a clear line of sight. Is there anything else I should be wary of when purchasing?
