What do you hate about running Linux full time?
>>57553719
Driver optimisation? Only thing holding the platform back from absolute superiority at this point, granted that's been the issue for like 10+ years now.

Heh heh heh, you made a joke about Samsung and fires. It's funny because one of Samsung's phones was in the news a few months back because some of them caught fire. Thus far have never heard anyone using the incident to mention fires or explosions whenever Samsung is mentioned for humerous effect. It's a very funny and original thought to have had. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. God bless you my child.

You are now called FatCat. Enjoy you're a cool name.
is it worth to sacrifice google, youtube and all other botnet sites which are used by billions every day just to have a little more privacy? Google is without doubt the most accurate and fast search engine out there, why try to keep your data and privacy safe by using alternatives even tough it won't be long before privacy no longer exists anyway.
Who cares, honestly, how does a commercial company having your data influence your life in any way? Nobody except for google and the maybe the american goverment has access to it.
The only reason to use third party shit is if you plan to do something highly illegal like blowing people up or joining isis, for that you should use those ugly alternatives I guess, but for simple everyday searches there is no reason to sick with JewJewGo or tardpage.
Opinions?
You can have it all.
Just use startpage for search. Email with your own domain. Use cyanogenmod on your phone. Ubuntu on your Laptop. And a Google account for YouTube.
>>57553600
But that completely kills the simplicity of using the same service for different tasks. Why use different shit for everything if one thing has it all.
This is some fucking hardcore shilling right here.

Nylas runs on Linux.
But yeah, most of them are trash. The standard was Thunderbird, but Mozilla officially abandoned it a while back. Honestly, I just use my phone as an email client now.
>>57553412
This, I've never seen anyone use mail clients ever. Just use your browser, retard.

Why do so many of you settle for Linux?
Is FreeBSD too hard for you to set up or what?
Gentoo is a cheap Linux imitation of BSD.
Go for the real thing. BSD is real Unix.
Stop playing with some guy's graduation paper project.
>Why do so many of you settle for Linux?
It has all the features I need: good programming environment, privacy and security, works with all my devices, good for occasional gaming.
>Is FreeBSD too hard for you to set up or what?
Wi-fi drivers are a nightmare. Everything else is mostly fine.
>Gentoo is a cheap Linux imitation of BSD.
And BSD is a cheap imitation of the real UNIX from Bell Labs.
>Go for the real thing. BSD is real Unix.
No, it's not. Research UNIX has been dead for two decades now.
>Stop playing with some guy's graduation paper project.
UNIX was made when Ken Thompson wanted to play a game on PDP-9. Get that stick out of your ass.
>>57553471
sorry, it was PDP-7
>>57553471
It's always the wireless drivers.
Other than that I do feel like BSD should have more users than linux
Im familiar with the old Slackware versions and want to get rid of windows and get over to Linux.
What im wondering is how do you update a package in Slackware? For instance Firefox? Do you just go to Slackware ftp och look in the Firefox folder for a newer version in a tgz file?
It dont have repos like Debian.
Will we be stuck with old ass software and dont even know its time to update?
How does this shit work nowadays?
you don't update slackware, you just repeat "everything you need is on the CD" and then claim it's stable because you can't install anything. It's a meme distro used by those pretending to be "linux oldfags".
how it works nowadays, is you install ubuntu, debian, mint, redhat, fedora, or any other proper distro that fixed these problems in 2003 that respects your time.
>>57553365
>because you can't install anything
:^)
I call bullshit, but...
Pat claim to be super BSDish, but all BSD have a proper package manager. KISS my ass.
