Today I'm gonna make the switch for the first time.
Is debian the best choice for beginners?
>>57547692
anywhere is a good start for beginners willing to learn
It's fine.
Just make sure you have an ethernet connection, because the firmware for your wifi card is most likely located in the non-free repos and aren't installed by default.
You'll have to fetch them online by adding "contrib non-free" to your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
>>57547726
doesnt Debian have an iso with nonfree included though
I know I just got one..
I fell for the Nvidia meme but was too poor to get a Titan XP or 1080, /g/
what am I in for?
a pretty good gpu.
Nothing else, nothing more.
>>57547652
>he's gpu dosen't have a gop bios
>>57547631
Can we just agree that both companys have their pros and cons instead of just calling them both memes?
OMFG! Is there no Usb 3 Female to HDMI male adapter? Or do i have to transform 8 different adapters into it?
Girlfriend bought a roku and a TV without a USB port
Also whereever you /g/uys happen to find it please share because i feel like a shit bag
>>57547464
It doesn't exist, and even if it does, it won't work. Dumbass. Why do you need a USB port on a Roku anyway?
>>57547464
>i feel like a shit bag
I can get you one cheap.
What does updating the Intel chipset drivers actually do?
It updates the Intel chipset drivers.
>>57547383
Increases botnet performance by 6-11%.
>>57547629
>It updates the Intel chipset drivers.
/thread
now kys
>Microsoft joins the Linux Foundation
What if Microsoft makes a Linux distro? What would it be like?
EMBRACE
EXTEND
EXTINGUISH
>>57547357
More like:
"Don't give a shit"
"Call it cancer"
"Surrender"
Who fucking cares.
What does /g/ think of Microsoft's Edge browser? Ive been using it for a few minutes now and I can agree with a lot of the design choices M$ made.
So whats the conclusion?
Is it a botnet within the botnet?
Will it (eventually) crush Jewgle Chrome and cuckzilla firefox?
No customization and no addons so I'm sticking with Firefox, despite Edge feeling a bit faster
Can't select multiple tabs to drag them to another monitor. Pass.
>>57547360
Userscripts are possible now if you get the botnet update.
ABP is available as well.
>>57547404
There are only like 8 extensions atm because literally no one is using Edge. I mean it IS the faster browser, its just being seriously over looked.
Windows Thread
Let's discuss the state of the piracy scene on Windows operating systems. Back in the days, I find people were much more active doing cracked OS'es and even their own versions of a certain OS (like once I had Windows XP ultimate which was fucking sick and better than the original). Nowadays, that shit seems to have died down. Makes me sad :(
Anyways, why not start with a question.
Windows 10, are the cracks good or are they shit? Can you crack games and still have fun or is it fucking shit? You tell me
>>57547216
Why don't you torrent some shit and find out
>>57547216
I'm running a legal copy of Win10 Pro, but it's pretty easy to crack. AutoKMS that shit and forget about it. And there are plenty of gaymes on TPB, Mr. DJ's repacks seem to work the best.
>>57547216
Dear ass,
March right back out the way you came in on that fucking horse. Take your style and try not letting doors hitting your way on out of this blunder. Snip the freak on above good beans.
Sincerely,
Snert
How long can we honestly expect our 3770k's to hold up before there's no other choice but to bite the bullet and go through the hell of moving to a new chipset? One year? Two years?
Ivy Bridge came out in 2012. Thats going on almost five years on the same spec which is pretty good but I'm not spending 600 bucks on a mobo, cpu, and ram before it makes sense to.
>>57547215
Why upgrade if it still works? I'm running pic related, cause it does what I need.
Everything works fine but I am not used to this Moore's Law shit. Feels like yesterday I was going from PCI to AGP to PCI 2.0 from DDR1 to 2 to 3 and you had to be on the latest shit or you couldn't compete.
>>57547215
>before there's no other choice but to bite the bullet and go through the hell of moving to a new chipset?
What features are you wanting in a new chipset?
I'm still on X58 (overclocked i7-920, six and a half years old), and I've added most of what I've wanted over the years some PCIe cards, a new GPU and some RAM. The only thing that is making me want to upgrade is nothing to do with the chipset, it's the lack of AES-NI in the Nehalem CPU line itself. This old desktop is the last machine I own that doesn't use full-disk encryption.
The crux of your question is the crux of every shitty-question-yielding-shitty-responses thread on /g/: When you say "our ... hold up ... no choice" the "our" is assuming that we have identical needs, goals and use cases for our computers. That's pretty unlikely, so if I do assume that, I'm probably giving you "bad" advice.
Basically: what do you use your computer for, and what specifically about those needs do you think will be under-served by your chipset?
Now that the Kevin has settled, what's your thoughts on Solus as a Distro?
Good? Fast? Buggy? Easy to use?
Who uses solus here? What are your thoughts on it?
Looking for a serious thread here, please don't shit it up with false flagging and shitposting.

Fuckin' Kevin

>With “RAISR: Rapid and Accurate Image Super-Resolution”, we introduce a technique that incorporates machine learning in order to produce high-quality versions of low-resolution images. RAISR produces results that are comparable to or better than the currently available super-resolution methods, and does so roughly 10 to 100 times faster, allowing it to be run on a typical mobile device in real-time. Furthermore, our technique is able to avoid recreating the aliasing artifacts that may exist in the lower resolution image.

Thank you based Google!

So this is basically just waifu2x trained on a different set of images.
How long until there's an mpv filter?
Post your cheap finds and make recommendations.

I need a laptop and a desktop but want the advantage of having Mac and windows at my disposal.
What is a better combination? A MacBook Pro and a HP desktop or an iMac and an HP laptop?
I don't video game but I watch allot of movies.
>>57547104
If you don't know how to make the right choice you don't belong here.
>>57547106
I'm open to opinions I want other people opinions
>>57547106
This. Jeez OP. Just buy a Thinkpad t420 and dual boot.
Has anyone here experience with deebin os?
Im thinking about installing in on my chromebook since chrome os is pretty worthless
It looks simply amazing and I havent seen anyone here even mentioning it.
deepin os*
It's definitely nice looking. I tried it last year and it seemed fine but then it started having all these errors. I think it was unstable release at that point though, I'm willing to try it again
>deepin ur mom lmao
debin OS :DDD
What the fuck is going on with this? It doesn't happen on my windows 8.1 rig. Why is it doing it on 10?
Video card is Radeon RX 460. Firefox also crashes when youtube videos or facebook loads, and I get the video scheduler bluescreen maybe once every few days. Assuming it's something graphics related?
i think youtube acting up recently is a firefox issue
>Firefox
lol
lazy photoshopper spotted, make youtubeption next time
How do you fuck with people that use GNU/Linux and don't know enough about it?
I've got a roommate that uses Ubuntu and I chrooted into his system from a live Arch usb stick while he was sleeping, set up an ssh server, installed mpv, xdotool, vim, tmux, redshift, unclutter and a couple of other things.
I changed his root password (it's not like he uses it on Ubuntu anyways) and enabled ssh-ing as root.
I also set up a directory in his home called .sysdoc in which I put some simple scripts I, some troll videos and soundtracks like Salil Sawarim.
This is one of the scripts (others do some trivial things to make my job easier):#!/bin/bash
mpv --no-video lilith.ogg --start=01:01 &
while true; do
redshift -O 1000 > /dev/null
xdotool mousemove "$(shuf -i 0-1365 -n 1)" "$(shuf -i 0-767 -n 1)"
redshift -O 25000 > /dev/null
done
It rapidly changes screen color from red to blue and randomly moves the mouse across the screen, while playing some dubstep soundrack from DMC I had laying around.
I can use xdotool to move his mouse a little just to get him curious at first, unclutter to make it totally disappear and then maybe run the script, all from my phone (using connectbot as the ssh client) while lying in bed.
Maybe I'll put a timer on some commands, so when he initialy calls me to check his laptop and something starts while I'm there, he has no reason to suspect me.
When I change the DISPLAY variable to :0 I can also play some videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ5LpwO-An4 (is there a way to prevent him from closing them?)
What do you think /g/?
Do you have any suggestions?
Also, how do *you* fuck with GNU/Linux users?
>>57546831
install Solus.
>>57546857
fuck off kevin
>>57546831
No offense, you seem like a total faggot!
