Because my PC isn't powerful and I like having it always be zippy and fast to open up the few programs I use, such as mpv, firefox, cmus, and....

That's it.

Nice B8

So /g/, I'm pretty tech illiterate. Not completely clueless, in that I'm a bit better than your average normie, but I'm still a retard when it comes to technology.
Basically what I'm asking is how do I become tech literate? Where do I start?
Should I being with reading study material for the A+ exam?

Instead of "I want to know X" try starting from "I want to do X"
And then go backwards trying to figure out what you need to learn.
>>

If you can track down an off-grid honya (Japanese bookstore) specializing in pre-Shannon era computertonics and preclusion datametry you should purchase a neo-English translated hardcopy of "Syntax Parameterization: From Analog to Algorithm" by Yuuri Sufed Hosoya. Pressed cellulose fiber sucks, but government ICE is always scanning for this text and knocks it out as soon as it hits the net (and you'll find yourself in a solitary cell in a Nagano level 4 prison for data crimes).

Find it, read it, learn it, love it, make it your bible. When you think you know it, write it out by hand on nitrocellulose paper and torch it when complete. Then spend a sabbatical in Japan rolling with the Datum Yakuza to get some experience. When you are fluent enough, track down the original copy and then your education can truly start. Keep in mind it took me 3 years and the lives of three men and one woman who I loved dearly for me to finally acquire it.

It's a long path but if you are serious about tech literacy this is one of the ways to become knowledgeable. You may need to do some shady blackhat merc shit to get enough creds for the nexus Yakuza to even look at you, but worry about that as it comes.

Good luck.

What is your favorite Javascript library /g/? Was thinking about going with the mainstream jQuery but there's so many options, I'd like to hear some pro's and con's

JQuery is pretty decent. Gets most shit done. I recently picked up React, and even though /g/ will say something about hipsters or whatever, it's actually fairly comprehensive and easy to use. People will tell you to use standard JS, but hard coding HTML is autistic in 2016, apparently, and a good chunk of styling can be done through var objects or inline JSX.

Programming on OSX or Windows?

What's everyone's input? Worth programming on a MacBook Air with a 128G SSD?

it doesn't really matter what OS you use to program on.
>>
>>57563511
programming on a shitty macbook air is a good idea because then you will actually have to optimize your program
>>
>>57563511
OSX, definitely. Girls will notice you more. I know it sounds retarded, but bring a macbook to a coffee shop sometime and wear some shit like a scarf and a bomber jacket and a pair of glasses. I did this once and I usually get a free coffee from one of the barista girls. It's pretty cash

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.
